When I’m playing Trolldier, I always like to use the Shotgun not just because of you being able to deal consistent damage, but rather I’m not used to the increased air control as that can throw off my aim and might overshoot my Market Gardener kill as I’m more used to the normal air control that the Soldier currently has. I’ll have to practice with the Mantreads more to get used to the increased air control and dominate SoundSmith at his own game. Also, I hope the Mantreads gets another buff in the future by giving it less fall damage on wearer so I can use it with not only the Rocket Jumper, but with the other Rocket Launchers as well.

Back when I first installed tf2, one of the earliest soldier weapons I got was the rocket jumper. Along side that, I got the half zatoichi. Once I discovered that market gardening exists, I didn't quite understand that you needed to have the market gardener in order to do it (I just assumed people were just using the default shovel and that it was a hidden stat of the rocket jumper or something). Honestly, rocket jumper half zatoichi works pretty well if they don't see you coming. In tight maps you can mow down an entire team if they aren't the best. I still use this strat today every once in a while. I'll admit that I probably had more success at the time because I couldn't aim an actual gun, but for picking off targets with low health it's just a straight upgrade to the market gardener. The biggest problem is that if you don't kill anyone it's a suicide mission, but in casual mode there's always a weakling in the back that never looks up to pick off. The increased range is also nice since people have predefined expectations for what your range will be after landing. Few expect for you to pull out a katana and chop their head off. Sometimes if I'm behind the enemy team on a payload map or something, I like to get blood on my zatoichi, run up to their front lines, wack someone and pretend like I'm retreating to their spawn or a healthpack, only to rocket jump off a wall directly into their face. It's even more of a meme strategy than trolldier, and probably isn't nearly as effective, but it's really fun when it's working. It's been even easier ever since they buffed the zatoichi to let you switch off of it for 50 health, as it let's you play a more traditional hit and run trolldier playstyle. Incorporating the shotgun is really great too, since it let's you fight back after you've landed (since once you hit the ground most classes can just run backwards and shoot you). It's a really fun way to play the game, and I feel sorry for my teammates.
