TF2 updates from years ago looked so interesting and unique. Sadly, I never was able to actually play them. The war update was a solid spin on things that brought new weapons and lore to TF2. The gunboats as the prize for Soldier makes this war update even more substantial and make all the demo mains salty. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

It's really nice to hear about these updates from someone who was playing when they dropped. This was the update that added what eventually became my favorite weapon in the game, the direct hit, and both of the other weapons I use with it (gunboats and the escape plan). I can't wait until we get to the updates I was actually there for (which would be from the über update onwards, although I did follow the tf2 scene since 2010 by watching videos about it on youtube so I was kinda there from the mannconomy update onwards)!

I guess the only thing missing from this video is the part where at the end just before release that valve made a blog post calling everyone in the game out for artificially inflating both teams numbers. Yet the result stayed the same even after accounting for the actual kill count they determined.

I say generally, I scanned through tier lists to get a consensus on that and it was usually a tier higher, but they are both good!

@@Ihasnotomato Escape Plan is the only viable one. You'll see 6s Soldiers use it because it provides insane utility. I don't tend to point at one specific video to support my position, but Equalizer was featured in the Bad Weapon Academy for a good reason. Its inconsistent damage, combined with the fact that using it effectively requires you to chase enemies with your melee as one of the slowest classes, on low health, makes it a joke of a weapon. Sorry if my comment seems overly pedantic, but it was an extremely weird take to hear in an otherwise accurate video.

wonder how you'll go about a tf2 update history on MVM. I was there back in the day, and it was HYPE. there was a whole buildup with teasers in the smallest details for years on end and the entire community was going crazy over it.

The 'downside' for the original Equalizer was that you couldn't be healed by a medic when it was out. Which... turbo sucked because it meant that soldiers could literally troll their medics by not letting them build uber.

I can imagine how furious anyone who had the old equalizer was when it got split. I’m guessing when it did everyone who had the original version got stuck with the crappy modern equalizer.

Man, you didn't go on the servers that actually had Class Wars set up? Like, I'm pretty sure Demo vs. Soldier was the origin of "enforced everyone as one class" servers. One of the server hosts I liked at the time created a WAR! Update server that would actually enforce Soldier vs. Demoman. Granted, for balance's sake, the enforced colors went out the window and it's more like you were class-locked to Soldier or Demo and they took turns attacking and defending. Another was more relaxed about it and instead only enforced playing as Soldier or Demoman.
