The early days of the Dead Ringer was extremely frustrating to play against. The Spy can like get cloak from ammo boxes while invisible, 90% resistance meaning the spy functions more like a damage sponge, spammable and a crutch.

The ambassador did mini crit damage when it was first released, so in fact it was the first weapon to deal mini crit damage.

The OG dead ringer was 90% damage reduction, and you could grab an ammo crate right after for an almost instant refill. You would go for a backstab, then just absorb anything coming your way and do it all over again, or you would use it to just waltz through spammy chokepoints. The only really reliable counter was pyro, b/c you could track the spy (cloaking didn't reduce fire duration). It also made the most unimaginably loud CRACK-PTOING-SWOOSH sound you could hear from 2 counties away.

He original stats for the dead ringer were no increased move speed, more resistance, and you could refill ammo with ammo kits. It was too good until it was nerfed into oblivion at gun mettle. The resistance was so high that you could survive backstabs at relatively high health. I think there is an old NISLT video where he abused backstab knockback to launch himself all over Hightower.

You actually have no idea what the previous stats were The DR had much better resistances than now(80 or 90% if I'm not mistaken). Also there was no speed boost ofc, and you could recharge while cloaked by picking up ammo. The amby did minicrits on headshot, and had no headshot cooldown. Then later they made it crit, and since it was OP, they introduced crit cooldowns

Good update video, but you did forget one thing that was big at the time: it was also the first update that didn't have milestones for the unlocks at first, so it was random chance on if you got your new watches and the like. it got changed fairly quick, but I remember being the first on a community server to get a Dead Ringer and it drove the actual spy players crazy because even though they cleaned out half of the spy achievements day one, they didn't get their new items and had to pray to RNG to have it appear in their inventory. Also the dead ringer did have damage reduction, it was 90% and it lasted the entire time you were cloaked, making for incredible dispenser cheese and hilarious cloak decloak shenanigans where you had so much damage reduction pyros could sometimes run out of ammo just trying to kill you once.
