I've had my grandfather's Pocket 1903 for many years now, and I had it professionally restored when I first received it. It is a lot of fun to shoot, as .32 ACP is such a low recoiling cartridge in this gun. While it was one of the best concealed pistols of the early 20th century, it is very obsolete now for that role. The very small sights on the gun are one of the key reasons not to consider it for modern carry, but I've always wondered how adding a modern optic to the slide might fix that. Glad someone went to the trouble and expense to find a beat up 1903 and have it properly modified to find out. You should share this gun with others in the shooting community to see how they compare it to modern concealed guns. You have made something that is probably unique and allows comparison of a very successful older design's core mechanicals with one of its chief limitations removed.

I would also argue it gives more people options when it comes to carry guns. Hear me out. A lot of gun control heavy states have exemptions on older guns like this. So if the gun has say poor finish but is mechanically in serviceable condition or can be made serviceable again, why not give it all the modernity you can. I’m not a huge fan of pistol red dots but that set up beats the pants off the original sights.

Also, it's use by gangsters during the 1930's. One point you left out was how beloved the 1903 was by Hollywood for gangsters of the silver screen. Humphrey Bogart used the 1903 in about a half dozen films. Most prominent is the finale of "Key Largo" where, isolated on a boat, He takes on, and takes out all the bad guys, armed only with a 1903 pistol. At the end, He shoots the last gangster, played by Edward G. Robinson. And shoots him again. and again. One tough crook! Keep up the good work!

@@Giovanni_Litterini I got it, had a brain fart. We're talking Vest Pockets correct? When I hear just Colt 1908 I envision the 380ACP Hammerless.
@Giovanni_Litterini Жыл бұрын
@@tylerwilliams6022 Yep vest pocket colt. I think your brain did that because 1908 colt hammer less sound more correct then 1903. And in my adhd brain every time I hear 1903 gun anything I immediately think 1903 springfield 30-06

From the start, I thought there's no way anyone in their right mind would do such a thing to a family heirloom.😊

When I first saw the video title and through the first couple of minutes, I thought "James, you're out of your freaking MIND!!! HOW could you do that??!!" Then I saw the frog skin, and I gotta admit...it's WAAAAAY freaking cool!!❤ And now I find out that you DIDN'T modify your grandfather's 1903???!!!!🤯🤯 YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!🤣🤣🤷♂️ TWO super cool pistols, Man!!👍

Not going to lie… I was really mad before I watched, liked the change and was pleased with the repurpose of the old pistol. I have a 1916 in excellent condition but now I want to buy a “junker” and do this! Maybe check with the Pentagon to see if they would like this for their museum. Nice meeting you at SHOT.

Watched the whole video. I have one of these pistols and enjoy it very much in its original config, crappy sights, and all. I would never modify mine in that fashion but hey, you can do what you please with what's yours. It was a great way to breathe new life into a classic firearm. But, I was glad the original gun was unadulterated in the end.

this is my favorite gun. I own two in .32 acp, one in .380 acp and one of the vest pocket models in .25 acp. They are super reliable even though they are all over 100 years old

Hilarious! At first, I thought there was no way he would do such a thing; I know I wouldn't. Then, I thought, damn he really did it...but I became suspicious after I thought I could see someone doing that to an old beater but not a perfectly pristine family heirloom. I'm happy to see that was the case, and I got a good laugh out of it.

Thanks! I will give you $1,200 bucks for modernized 1903 I've always been looking for one I too inherited my great uncle Colonel Dale Parrish's 1903 and his "Sweet 16" Browning automatic shotgun. I have always loved the channel and I wanted to thank you and the other folks at TFB TV for producing positive politically free gun content. Also, perhaps general bookman's alma mater would like his 1903 for their archive or to display at their ROTC department. I'm a big believer in spreading wonderful pieces of history around to smaller museums so more folks can view them; unfortunately most people do not get the opportunity to travel to the wonderful national museums. PS My wish to purchase the modernized 1903 or a clone is as authentic as the unmolested 1903 new in the box :-)

I do have an appreciation for old guns, so personally I wouldn’t do this. But what belongs to you, belongs to you, so I’m not mad and I think it’s actually pretty awesome. I love red dots on guns with low recoil, there’s just something so satisfying about it.

My grandfather left me a Spanish-made 1903 knockoff he picked up in Europe in WW2; I'm now wondering if it might need a similar update!
@traphimawari7760 Жыл бұрын
its a knockoff so its okay, in fact it would be optimal for you to mount rails, collapsible stock, custom-made extendo mags, a threaded barrel for a suppressor, stippled grip, etc. just full on modernize it turn it into a full-on grandpa gun in a new cyborg body
