Your GI mags may drop freely but I can't tell you how many times I've had to return my magazines to the armory because dropping them during speed reloads results in them either not ejecting or not feeding properly. Actually, the Marine Corps adopted the PMag Gen 3 several years back. It works well across all 5.56 platforms across their inventory, M27 IAR, M16, M4, SAW. It also has the added benefit of reducing excessive feed ramp wear associated with the M855A1 EPR round. The Marine Corps tested the PMag against the Army's legacy USGI magazine, their replacement USGI EPM, (Enchanced Performance Magazine). The PMAg Gen3 was 480-550% more reliable than the USGI types using the M855A1 and Mk318 round across all platforms. In fact there were zero stoppages related to the magazine when using the PMag with either round in the M27 platform. The Marine Corps adopted the mag back in 2016 when this video first came out, the US Air Force followed seven months later and USSOCOM has adopted as well. So the people whose use of 5.56 weapons platforms is a life and death issue would give advice counter to what you are propogating.

Recap: 1. In some goofy non-AR-15's, PMAGs won't drop free, which doesn't matter if you use mag retention reload techniques 2. In one specific non-AR-15 that most people don't have, PMAGs will cause damage to the rifle unless you minimally modify them and fix the problem 3. PMAGs don't fit a few non-AR-15 rifles that, again, most people don't have 4. PMAGs are slightly heavier, which evidently matters more than feeding reliability Final thought: Someone who only owns AR-15's should not use PMAGs because they might not work well in other rifles they don't own anyway

Disposable doesn't mean they are "one time use." When they refer to disposable they mean they are meant to be exchanged out when reloading. That's very much unlike other mags in the 50s and 60s when they were meant to stay in the weapon. Matter of fact, magazines were viewed negatively by the military. Your M14 rifle was meant to be clipper fed into the magazine box, that's why they had the guide on the top of the receiver, and only removed in an emergency or when cleaning. Most magazines of that era was like a box that you latched into the rifle. They were not drop free or meant to be reloaded in a hurry. The military was finally sold on the AR15 magazine design when the magazines were meant to be "disposable" in that you can change magazines very easily and without inaccuracy that other rifles of that era had. You just had to push a button and insert a new magazine without having to "latch" into anything.

The newer gen pmags addressed some of those issues since this video came out I think. They have a lip to stop the mags from going too far into the rifle, and directly updated the mags to be HK compatible. If the mags don't drop freely, maybe a very light sanding or silicone lube would help until they're broken in.
@troywoodhouse3495 Жыл бұрын
Was only one issue with the original pmags in the ar platform to begin with. The only issue with them is they would crack down the back after months of hard use in combat. I’ve personally ran them over with 60k lb MWRAPS then immediately shot them. The feeding issue with the GI mags was caused by the follower rolling. They have newer GI mags that have a follower that dost tilt which fixed that. But you still can’t run them over and then use them. 🤷🏻♂️. We got Pmags delivered by the boxes in Afghanistan. They work and They are the only mag I’d bet my life on in any Ar platform.

2:59 I hear more “folks in the military” say they want something reliable. For me, the near-elimination of feeding problems on the PMAGs, as well as the capability to visually estimate how much ammunition I have (windowed PMAGs) are well worth the increased weight, even for militia/paramilitary applications. In my short time in active duty we used x3 double stack rifle mag pouches on our body armor, which caused issues for me proning out (back/hip injuries prior to joining). I've since moved to x3 single stack pouches, followed by one on my war belt. I don't anticipate needing a full "combat load" ready on my plate carrier in civilian contexts, if a fight is that bad I'm planning on just breaking contact and just harassing whatever larger force is hypothetically in my AOR. All of your reasons are valid, although perhaps not applicable to a lot of guys who tend to stick to more modern AR builds. Although the point of simplifying logistics to cover all weapons platforms isn't one that should be overlooked.

My issue wirh pmag is the cheap ammo carriers cant properly hold one. They make them to fit the steel mags. Put a pmag in and they are usually too tight to pull in or out.

spldrong This does not mean too much but the only double feed or jamming problem I have ever had was with a brand new lancer L5 war fighter magazine.

The Lancers I've purchased are jam-o-matics.

I bought one. It’s garbage.

Never had an issue with my 40 or so lancers. They did have a batch they recalled a while back. Alex C is a collector, I wouldn't be surprised if he has several oddballs that won't work with lancers.
