Mary and Jen! It's awesome to have you two added to the line up! Your perspective adds value to the TFL videos and you both are a welcome addition to the team. @@darrellyelity3648 I paid a little over $41,000 after rebates, discounts, haggling etc. for my 2024 Sport S. It has a hard top, automatic transmission, heated seats and steering wheel. I paid $48,000 for my 2019 Rubicon 4 Door. That had the soft top. Otherwise mostly the same options. The last 2 door Wrangler I bought was a 2007 JK with a soft top. It wasn’t a Rubicon, but it did have a rear locker, disconnecting front sway bar, and 410 gears. That was around $24,000. Prices have definitely gone up. It is crazy for sure.

IMO, purchasing a preowned Jeep, in showroom condition, with low to moderate mileage on it, is a viable option. I did that and saved $25,000 that I’d have to spend on the same Jeep purchased new. A customer looses 25% - 30% of a new Jeeps MSRP by simply driving it off the dealers lot. That’s okay if you plan to drive it for, at least, 5 years or more.

It was a great vehicle - towed many trailers, many years camping, and NEVER got stuck in snow. In fact, I have pulled many other vehicles out of ditches and ones that were stuck in snow. My '05 Wrangler was bought as a 'just in case of blizzards' vehicle. Until the first time I drove it. It immediately became my favorite vehicle. Had a solid frame so I repaired everything else needed. Now my "New" 19 year old Wrangler is my daily driver. Absolutely love it. Short wheelbase so it's a blast to zip around and maneuver. Short wheelbase so every bump is magnified. It will rattle teeth. Maybe not best for a family but as a single male with 2 dogs it's absolutely perfect.

I got a Jeep also "for serious Winter weather/blizzards" -- can't think of a better vehicle to be in to get me home safely in if caught in a sudden snowstorm -- but it wasn't a Wrangler, MAINLY because I needed a higher towing-capacity than Wranglers have (or other off-road/4x4 mid-size SUVs like Broncos). Consequently, I was restricted to the mid-size TRUCK segment: Got a Gladiator (Rubi) instead. So now I have my serious snowstorm, evacuation (during some natural disaster like floods/fire), towing even the largest (and overloaded) U-Haul trailers with ease, serious Top Dog off-road-focused 4x4 -- and a Daily Driver as well. It's done all those things I got it for AND is fun to drive for whatever (or no) reason. :-) If I needed to buy a new vehicle TODAY, I'd still get another Gladiator (Rubi)...that is, if I could get past the way higher prices of them nowadays. -- BR

I've been driving my 2017 Jeep Wrangler for 130,000 miles and counting. I love it, and I don't plan on getting rid of it. Using it as a daily driver is no problem at all, and even road trips are okay as long as it's not windy. Wind on a freeway is a massive gas mileage and speed killer. When there's a strong headwind, it has trouble keeping it above 60 miles per hour and averages only 15 miles per gallon, which is terrible considering I regularly get 22 miles per gallon at 70 when there isn't a headwind.

I agree 4 door is better if you have a family but once the kids leave, or even before the kids are born, then 2 door is the way to go.

Well I think the cure to a number of these problems discussed is...buy the 4 door. My wife bought one (also a sport, with a 6 speed) to commute a total of 60 miles daily in the mountains and she loves it. We've also taken it on extended trips and it's fun and comfortable. She especially likes the crank windows, go figure. And we improved the steering by keeping the 17" tires but wider (and very slightly taller). Really helped. Also she got rear ended the other day, destroyed the front end of the truck (well, a Ranger) that hit her, and all we can find is a hole in her bumper plastic, so I see it as solid and safe.

I’ve been driving my 21 JLU for over 2 years and 69,000 miles. It’s like driving most anything except you have off-road and bad weather capabilities other vehicles don’t have. Downsides; cabin space of a compact car, not a lot of storage space as compared to trucks, which I had for over 20 years. Lifting them and putting oversized tires will take a toll on mileage.

Bronco didn't steal any sales from the Wrangler...Thing is Bronco sales dropped more than the Wrangler sales. Bronco has serious reliability issues I assume you don't pay attention to recalls and issues Broncos have...Basically the only Wrangler and Jeep problems come from the Electric Hybrid versions. Pure gas models are reliable and virtually problem free. Ford has more recalls and issues than Jeep..

When they made the Jeep bigger, they somehow managed to make the interior smaller. I'm 6-2 and had ample room in my '97 TJ didn't even need to slide the seat all the way back. Since they did the redesign in '06 and tried to make it more of a "daily driver, comfortable car" and an actual 4/5 person rather than the 2/3 person car it always was they added more rear leg room by limiting the front seat slides.

Daily driver of a jeep JLU for the last 3 years here! It’s a Sport S so it has power windows and locks and keyless entry like most other models. The soft top is not as loud as some people say - I can still have a full conversation with my wife at normal volume with it on. I drive a stick so in heavy traffic it can kinda suck but it’s a lot of fun bombing around back roads in it. The gearing sucks in stock form but I’m regeared so that takes care of that (I would not recommend the stick in less than the rubicon 4.10 ratio, and if you go bigger than 33s, you need to regear more quickly than you would with the 8 speed). The worst thing about the wrangler is when you start to mod it - if you don’t get _really_ high quality lift kits and shocks and go with E rated tires, you _will_ hate the ride. I’m on a Teraflex lift kit when advertised “only 10% stiffer springs than stock!” Yes, a stock _rubicon,_ which is itself about 10% stiffer than a Sport. That makes the ride quality about 20% stiffer overall, which is _noticable._ I’m on cheapo rancho shocks, and combined with E load rated tires, the ride is punishing. I will absolutely have to spend a good amount of money to make it better (C load rated tires and better shocks), but you need to know that if you cheap out, you will definitely be making it worse. Overall, it’s been super fun and surprisingly reliable (never left me stranded, had one dead battery due to power drain from a Tazr JL and then had one recall on the clutch). I’d absolutely recommend it to someone who wants an open top adventure vehicle, so long as they know it’s never, ever going to be as comfortable as your CX70.

I drove one in the early 1990s with the 4 cylinder and 5 speed stick north of Houston, Texas. The AC with the soft top was marginal and the top speed was to. That said it ran fine except for one warranty problem with the crank sensor. I passed it to my teenage son with 60,000 miles in 3 yesrs. He then drove and destroyed it luckily with the 7 year or 70,000 mile power train covered. He is the reason they dropped it I think. He finally sent a rod out the engine block at 85,000 miles. He and I put a junkyard engine in and it ran till he traded it in with 98,000 miles. I learned to drive in a 195x Pink Jeep CJ so the Wrangler was a step up.

The opinions of the 4 of you are all valid and are personal, The big thing that changes them is Jeep pricing themselves almost out of the market of affordability to most buyers, then Jeep makes the 8 speed auto a $4000 option now which is ultimately stupid and outright greed, it only use to be 1800-2000 dollars a few years back, I been on road trips in a Jeep with a buddy going from Winnipeg to Vancouver Island which is 1600 miles and half of that is mountains and it was not bad and that was a TJ, we had fun, the girls are just the more everyday kinda car buyer owner and there's a 90% chance they'll never own a Jeep 👍 great video

If you want an appliance soft roader, the wrangler is definitely not for you. So don’t get one. Go get your Toyota Rav, Hyundai, Kia or Honda what ever. And that’s what most people do. You buy a wrangler, especially the wrangler 2 door because that is what you want. You don’t justify owning a wrangler. You just want it. And that is that. I want a wrangler sport with the half doors and soft top. I want the standard tires for street use. If I want to get off road rowdy, then I will bolt on the off road knobby tires. (The standard all season smaller on road tires help a ton with steering sharpness, noise and ride!)

Great review, y'all, nice job! We've been living with Wranglers for 6 years now and absolutely love them. There are Wrangler specific quirks that you just learn to live with because, well, it's a Jeep! As for the 2-door vs 4-door, I've become accustomed to the look of the 4-door, the 2 door looks too abbreviated to me, though I know it's more offroad accommodating. But, as one of the ladies noted, a lot more difficult to get in and out of the rear seat. The ultimate thing about Jeeps though, is the community, what other vehicle has a unique wave recognition that you get when driving a Jeep! Oh, then there's the duck thing, we have a lot of them, kind of cool, I think.

My son had a JL, It was junk. It spent more time at the dealers, waiting for parts, than it did in his garage. Mostly electrical issues. He eventually sold it and bought a Tundra. I’ve got a 2015 JK Freedom with the 3.6 engine. Runs great….no mechanical problems since I’ve owned it. Wouldn’t trade my JK for any year JL. I very much prefer my JK’s knobs and gages instead of a computer screen. Only upgrade I’ve made was to replace all exterior lights with LED’s that include daytime driving lights. Added a brake light ring behind the spare tire too.

What year and motor was your son’s JL ?

@ It was a 2019. I think it had the 3.6 engine. The electronics was the problem, not the engine.

@ The “Freedom” version is basically a luxury version of a Sport S. It comes with power windows, leather seats, Alpine Sound system, upgraded bumpers, upgraded wheels, and grill. The name “Freedom” was intended to recognize veterans, and I’m a Viet Nam era veteran. Jeep donated $250 to a veteran cause for each Jeep Freedom sold. Stellantis, of course, did away with that version of Jeep. I hadn’t purchased a preowned vehicle in more than 30 years. My son bought a 2019 Wrangler that had been fully customized by a customizing shop. I decided I’d like to have Wrangler just for the fun of driving it, but I knew I’d never take it off road, so I had no need for a Rubicon. I was looking for a locally owned, one owner, in like new condition, factory original, no evidence it had been taken off road or customized. I looked for several months. After lots of internet searches I found exactly what I wanted. The only negative was that a local Carmax had it. My grandson is a master mechanic, so he checked it out for me. Further investigation revealed it was a one owner, who was 58 years old, we were also able to confirm its service history. The owner had the oil changed every 4,000 at a local dealer. I also verified the vehicles ACV. Carmax price was $5000 more than its Blue Book value. I decided this particular Jeep was worth, at least to me, what Carmax was pricing it at. I was aware they don’t negotiate price. I’m fully satisfied with my Jeep, but I would never advise anyone to do business with Carmax. A new Jeep, like the one I bought, was still more than $20,000 than what I paid for mine. I’m retired so my Jeep is basically just a toy for me to have fun with.

I always wanted to buy a wrangler. Since I was a kid. Then I went to Hawaii and rented one with very low miles. That thing was so bad on road (washboard death wobbles, tire hop, so uncomfortable, etc). My daughter called it the tractor. This vehicle is so comprised when you are not off-road that it makes it hard to live with.

Have driven my 2 Door Jeep on three cross country camping trips. The long highway drives were tedious, but it more than made up for it on adventure and off road capability. As I get older, I’m warming up to the idea of some more comfort and space, however.

For most people though I think they would hate driving it as much as I do. The JL auto is 10x easier and more comfortable than mine. Still very fun too. I can see a lot more people enjoying daily driving a JL, they drive really well

After being practical with vehicles all my adult life I said it’s time for a fun vehicle again. There’s Nothing like popping the top and taking the doors off.

@19:14 When they discuss a long commute. Here's where I deeply disagree. The smaller size and excellent visibility make it a fantastic commute car. I have a soft top (2023 Sport, not a Premium soft top) so there is a touch of added audio added. I don't need to be reminded that there is a car coming to my left or right or behind me. I'm immersed in the soundtrack of the traffic. Not loudly, but just enough to know where everyone is. I feel safer in this than I did in all of my others cars (I've had 25 other cars in my lifetime).

Back in 1999 I bought a TJ Wrangler and drove it for several years including 50 miles round-trip commuting. I was totally fine with it as a daily driver, for one or two people without carrying much stuff (we had a van for the family). I loved the occasional off-pavement driving, and still do at age 64, so just last week I bought a new Ford Ranger that will give me back some off-road ability along with normal SUV comforts and a big cargo space in back. For the money I don't see buying a Wrangler unless you REALLY want the open-air experience or you do fairly serious off-roading beyond what a mid-sized pickup can do for about the same money as a Wrangler.

We loved our Wranglers, but after driving all the nearby trails it didn’t make sense to keep as a daily driver. Even a 4Runner was too anemic on long hauls. We now have Land Rovers.

As a 4door Wrangler owner, I can tell you that it’s night and day from the 2door. The 4 door is super spacious and I have way too much room. I call it a truck, because the whole trunk area is massive. I do agree with the ladies, this car is so uncomfortable to ride as a daily driver. I’m constantly gripping the wheel in long road trip because it doesn’t have the stability I’m used to. Fortunately, I work from home so my daily driving is about 10-20miles total per week. I bought this car for the idea of adventure, fun and modifications. I’m definitely in my adventure era, but since I don’t commute much, it’s a great weekender to go camping, kayaking, biking with if that’s your thing.

Bought a 2014 jk new, half doors, stick, soft top. Was my daily driver and "off to Vegas" car up until 2023 (got a new 4runner). Left it stock except for 34" K02s. Had a good time in it. Sounds like a tornado on the freeway but water tight.... except the day I took the top off and an unexpected storm hit while many miles from home - fun! Still sitting in the driveway, take it out occasionally.

I wanted a fun daily driver to take into the Idaho mountains on the weekend. I looked hard at the Bronco and Jeep. Local Ford dealer had three Broncos in stock and they were $55k for a low end 2dr, $69k for a nicer 4dr, and $96k for a Raptor. I went to the Jeep dealer and test drove a loaded Sport S 4xe Unlimited at $57k. Got it with a lift kit installed for $43k. Probably my last new vehicle as they are getting lower in quality and the prices are insane.

As someone who owns two 2 door JL’s I have to disagree on some points. It was said it wouldn’t be good on a long commute, my commute is about an hour each way. Back roads and city streets, averages about 20mpg in a stock Rubicon (3.6, 8AT). Visibility is excellent and it’s quick enough to pass and change lanes without being so fast you worry about getting a ticket for speeding. It was said they don’t make for good road trip vehicles, my second two door is modified and we have taken it on multiple road trips of around 7-8000km. Admittedly, it’s not a quiet place to be (soft top and half doors) but it’s overshadowed by how much fun it is and how easy it is to drop the top. The front panels have a storage bag and can sit behind the rear seat though you lose room. On my daily I’ve replaced the front panels with a clearlidz panel to let light in without the need to remove the stock panels. Is it a perfect vehicle or perfect for everyone? Absolutely not but they become more endearing the more you drive them. Watching Jeff being stuffed in the trunk like a mafia corpse was pretty funny to see, that should be the standard way to measure trunk space from now on. Also, having the two ladies join the team is a great move. Additional perspective is often a good thing and both seem quite personable.

I bought a brand new '93 YJ, it didn't even come with a radio. I daily drove it for 10 years with no radio, no AC, no nothing. I did splurge and get one with three luxury options, carpet, a rear seat, and a hard top. I would buy another one if I could still get one for $14K new.

I thought if someone opens a door into it they will lose. It really only took a minute to see how hated the driving position in that thing

The Wrangler is a vehicle you either love or hate it. I had three Jeeps just not a Wrangler. Having owned a 91 Cherokee, a 2004 Grand Cherokee and a 2010 Grand Cherokee. All were great vehicles and very capable off road when properly equipped. I currently drive a 2024 Bronco which seems to fit all my needs. Does Jeep need to change the Wrangler? IDK I would never buy one so I can't say. As long as people keep buying them, they will have a place.

Guys, you know this is why the majority of people buy the 4 door with at least power windows and locks. In Southern California, 4 door wranglers are literally everywhere. The 2 door is a much different animal for a specific purpose, and that is definitely not daily driving. You need to get a 4 door and do a comparison video 👍

The advantage of not having powered locks: No automatic door locks. I hate automatic door locks. For example in our minivan when I got to start it and warm it up the doors are locked, ok no big deal, but most of the time I'm a bit rushed and don't remember to unlock the doors, then when I'm help my disabled father to the van right as we are going to get in the door won't open. It's so frustrating to have to run around and unlock it (because the fob doesn't work when the vehicle is running) while he is barely able to keep himself standing. One of the uses for my truck is fence repair. most fixes take like 30 seconds but the constantly having to do two steps to open a door is rediculous. Seriously manufacturers think we're too lazy to put in akey in the ignition, but think we are perfectly happy and want to always have to go through two steps to open the door?

@6:16 this is why you get a soft top. Always get the soft top. I don't understand the fascination with the hardtop. It's a massive compromise. The soft top is the only way to go on a Jeep Wrangler. With the added sound deadening in the 2024 and newer models, and all models getting the premium soft top, it's quiet. Bonus....you didn't spend EXTRA for the hardtop.

Wranglers are like mustang s-if people are riding in the back they are being punished. For decent storage just remove the rear seat. A small off road trailer would allow for a lot of flexibility for 1 or 2 people on an adventure
