Back in 1989, I bought a Jeep YJ off the showroom floor. It was the "S" model and the back seat and a minimal use spare tire were extras, the regular tires were small-ish street tires and it had no radio, no speakers, no AC, the 2.5L 4cylinder with a 5 speed manual and a soft top. I spent a good amount of time wheeling that thing around my parent's house in norther California and was able to almost drive all the way to my parent's house in that huge snow storm in the early 1990's (I got stopped about 200 yards short when the snow was higher than the hood and I could only afford 1 set of snow chains.) @@is6566I’m in a 4 door Sport with the 6 speed on 35s and 4.88 gears and yeah, the 3.45 gears are fine on the 8 speed automatic but with the 6 speed it’s way undergeared. Anything bigger than the standard size tires that come on it would require 3.73 at least, if not 4.10s gears. I almost never got to 6th gear when on the stock all seasons unless I was going over 70 mph, and once I put 33s on it, 6th gear went away entirely. When I put 35s on, 5th gear went away as well. People really do not comprehend how inflation has blown up. For example I had bought a 2019 Colorado Z71 in 2019. That vehicle was MSRP about 41k but I ended up paying 34.5k for it after discounts. In 2024 that truck would have cost about 50.4k MSRP, and 42.2k respectively. I just traded in my 19 Colorado in March for a 2024 Colorado ZR2. That truck cost around 55k with all of the options I chose with only minimal discounts at the time. :( That same truck would have cost 44.6k new in 2019. Probably would have been even less since I got around 18% off MSRP in 2019 so I probably would have paid south of 40k for a fully loaded 3rd gen ZR2 in 2019 if it wasn't for all of this massive inflation the past 4 years.

I traded in my old baby (a 2014 JKUR), so the engine is mostly the same (not a fan of the run/stop), but it feels pretty familiar and comfortable to me. One thing I'd like to get you guys to check for me: how is the seating position? When the JL models came out, the seat seemed too low and when I had a rental Gladiator a few years ago, it seemed like it just would not go back far enough to get comfortable. With my new "Rubicon X" Gladiator, it has the power seats and they made a huge improvement (for me.) I don't know if its actually got more range of motion than the manual seats or if its just the combination of different adjustments, but its not an issue for me at all now.
