Some aeroplanes use somewhat similar mechanism for rock and pop out handle for latching service panels on outer skin of the plane in aerodynamic fashion. Ofcourse those are tied to mechanical latch. As he said in video. Just have that thing pull a rod, that pops a latch. Heck one can even have a servo on top. Have three pull rods. Outer handle, innerhandle and servo. Yeah I don't get why people want Tesla's. I used to want one, until I learned about them. I've seen people replace motors by 100K miles. Not cheap. The fitment and quality is atrocious. The luxury is sub-par for the segment. Battery degradation = not good either. People be like; "I DON'T GOTTA DO OIL CHANGES" meanwhile they're replacing their motors. Also, lets not forget that Tesla doesn't support right to repair, so if you ever want to fix the car yourself, take it to a cheap mechanic, or install anything Aftermarket, have fun with that, because you can't easily. You could say; "Its electric so its better for the environment" but in the end, buying a used car is technically better for the environment, or keeping yours alive, and either way, gas is way more convenient currently. Who the hell wants to plug in their car on road trips or when they get home? Oh, and finally, their strongest reason to buy a Tesla - Autopilot. Technically there is a similar tech called 'open pilot', its about 80% of what a Tesla can do for $1000's, and it can hook up to a decent amount of new cars. Its also open source unlike autopilot. You can buy a 20K corolla and install it with open pilot and have it self-drive, or get a 40K lexus ES which will crush the Tesla in luxury and reliability AND still be gas convenient AND it will drive itself with open pilot. Tesla is outclassed once you actually research into what it is and the competitors. Unless you want a crazy 0-60 electric car and some other minor tech luxuries and are willing to put up with all the terrible aspects, its not worth it.

I’d call the system unsafe because it isn’t designed to fail safe. Ok, so it’s only the left rear door failing right now, but if misalignment can cause failures, then the potential exists for any (or all) doors to fail during/after an accident, which is *exactly* when it would be most dangerous.

Even if they’re “working” properly, those door handles wouldn’t function for several weeks of the year here in Minnesota, where it’s not uncommon to have your vehicle covered with ice for days at a time during the winter. With a mechanical, external handle, you can usually get enough force behind the puppy to break the ice and force it open. No way on these TSLA “lady finger” flush handles. Once the early adopters have bought all their rolling tech wrecks, who are they going to sell to?
@paulstandaert20424 жыл бұрын
If they want to build cars like this for "niche" markets, they'll be fine. But if they truly want to get into the "mass-market" thing, building cars like this will be their demise if their current financial situation doesn't get them first. And seriously.... has anyone ever tried doing field service work on a car? Meaning you drive there, work outdoors, and bring all your tools and diagnostic equipment and freeze or roast your ass off? The quality of repair isn't going to be good.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem for tesla is that they have too much hype, their demand is too high. Even if they fixed these quality control issues they wouldn't be able to sell any more cars because they are already are selling at max manufacturing capacity - so the motivation to fix the issues isn't that big. This allows for complacency, the focus on driving forward flashy innovation while neglecting the basics. I have no doubt they are working to fix the quality issues, but they'll be a hell of alot more motivated after demand starts dropping and it has the potential to hurt revenue.

He (Elon Musk) is probably getting raped on all sorts of taxes being in cali.He needs to move and use the extra money to make these reliable.I got a new AWD stinger and got dusted by one of these.I live in GA--and I see way more of these then my Stinger.It is a GREAT car--with saying that--it is a great car when everything works.The charges ado not last as long as advertised--many electric glitches--and a high price.Also--where would one get these fixed if a major electrical glitched occured.In closing--when this works you literally have the performance of a supercar/hypercar acceleration.Electric cars still need a few more years in the oven before I consider one.

@@khronin Not to mention batteries. The average age of a car on US highways is 12 model years. When is the last time any of us seen *any* battery that old and still strong? The cars currently being built are going to be the ultimate in vehicle depreciation because what are you going to do with a 12 year old Tesla when only they are allowed to obtain any parts and fix them, nor have access to service manuals?

I'll stick with my '97 Camry. Which has never, in 25 years, left me on the side of the road. It did have one door handle snap. But the door still opens. Lmao

Because normal door handles just wouldn't do it.

Aston Martin, Jaguar, Fiat all of them had similar door handles in the past, and all of them worked mechanically. The only other company i know where doorhandles have been a problem is actually Fiat, but for a complete other reason: On some models long ago the black plastic of the door handles got really ugly and shed it's upper layer due to exposure to sunlight. (One would think sunlight wouldn't be something that could harm an italian car)

@@music4life843 other companies have had flush door handles in the past and did not have this issue. Mostly because they're a mechanical mechanism as a door handle/latch should be.

well unfortunately my Kia Niro broke the rear door handle off twice before 3rd time was the charm.. Not entirely related to this issue as I could get out still from the inside. But to the point just because a tesla fails, doesn't mean all the others are immune from issues like this. Kinda makes me think back to there Rover video of there new engine just deciding to crap itself. Q/A these days on any newer product sometime just don't see the light enough..

Tesla loves to brag about being the safest vehicles on the road but can't accomplish such basic safety features on a car. Yet the fanboys will swear up and down by these cars.

I am wondering about those outer door handles after a freezing rain that leaves your car coated in ice.
@williamwingo47403 жыл бұрын
In Ohio winters years ago, it was common to squirt WD-40 in all the door locks every couple of weeks so that when the car became covered with ice you could probably still open at least one door.
