With the high diesel prices recently, people ask me why I drive a BMW 335d, rather than the 335i. First, I get a consistent 31 mpg combined, 36 on a trip, vs low-to-mid 20's for the gas version. Second, my fuel is actually CHEAPER, because the 335i requires PREMIUM. I'll gladly stick with that and my 7.3 Powerstroke.

One thing you are thinking about is diesel foams up a lot when filling. When fill my diesel truck up I fill it all the way to the top. You can do that with diesels

My old 1983 GMC 2500 with the 4 spd manual and the 6.2 ltr diesel is rated at 8,500 towing capacity. It might be slower than a snake in Greenland during the winter, but it gets 22 mpg all day long. If you are not worried about how slow you go, an old 6.2 ltr naturally aspired diesel just might do the trick with high diesel prices... BTW, when people pass me up a long grade giving me the #1 sign, I just give them the thumbs up in acknowledgement.... I like when people appreciate my slow, steady driving style in that old diesel truck...

2 mpg better in diesel with less overall cost! Factor that into the cost of the diesel engine would take how many trips to where it's truly beneficial. Don't forget about maintenance. Towing & reliability goes to the diesel. Winner winner chicken dinner! OOPS! Chicken wasn't the right thing to say, I see Nathan salivating!😂😂

I filled up my 09 Silverado 3500 with a 62 gallon Titan tank the other day at a Royal Farms in Maryland. The first swipe with a Discover card let me pump $125. Normally I can do two swipes per card but not three but this time it told me to come inside. I used my AmEx and it cut off at $99! I was less than a dollar from being completely full so it was annoying that it cut me there. I travel a lot with diesel pickups that have tanks between 48 and 135 gallons. I've had stations that cut off at $75, $100, $125, $150, and unlimited but I think this was the first $99.
@63Imp283 Жыл бұрын
125 not 99
@Queensizemusic Жыл бұрын
Why would AmEx cut you off at just $100?
@hitchedtohorsepower Жыл бұрын
@Queensizemusic I have no idea. I don't use that card a lot for fuel but it normally cuts at the same as any of my other cards.. You would think diesel pumps would at least give you $150 per swipe given that most diesel drivers have HD pickups with stock tank sizes between 34 and 50. As far as diesels I have a VW Sportwagen TDI that's about $50 to fill up at current prices, my Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel is a little over $100, F-450 at $200ish, and my 09 Silverado with the aftermarket tank is $250 to $270.
@Car-crazy Жыл бұрын
That is why I have the 2.8L D Land Cruiser. Especially as diesel is considerably more cheaper than petrol here. And if I decide to buy the new 250 series LC I would go diesel and not hybrid. The hybrid will almost certainly cost more than the diesel to buy to start with, and with petrol costing a lot more per litre, the diesel is going to be cheaper from the start and into the future, especially once the batteries start to lose there efficiency, which they will. And you can't beat diesel power for towing and long distance cruising.

0:43 interesting question. I'm thinking it's the diesel. Because the aerodynamic drag should be pretty close, the weight shouldn't make much of a difference, and the diesel is just that much more efficient on the highway. Let's see how wrong I am!
@roguedogx Жыл бұрын
1:34 "for those of you playing along at home" yep that's me! Lol Give it's a mere 1000 lbs difference, I stand by my pervious assessment. Especially with the more "aerodynamic jeep" out front. Alright. I've doubled down, so I'm gonna be way off. Lol
@matthewjacobs1164 Жыл бұрын
You should test an electric truck pulling one of those trailers and going on that trip. Oh wait it would never make the distance. Actually that would be a good test to see how much less distance you get towing lighter then heavy with an electric truck.

Superchargers are better than turbos. When I got out the Military I drove two of my cars across country both same year and model but one was Supercharged and the other wasn't. The Supercharged one actually averaged better fuel MPG the entire time
@Austin-cg7be Жыл бұрын
it depends on a lot of variables. Typically thats not the case. But I have seen it. Turbos are typically better because they dont always have to produce any boost where as a supercharger is really always doing something and it pulls the engine down a bit. But depending on the vehicle the engine in question and some other little things its possible
@PhillyDee215 Жыл бұрын
@@Austin-cg7be yeah I'm just a supercharger fan but I know turbos are more efficient and use less energy. They also make more power. But when I made that trip across country (I've drove across country at least 6x 🤣) i really wanted to see which car would average better fuel economy and I wasn't surprised that the supercharger did better. They're pretty efficient as long as you stay out of the boost lol
