It's funny, honda's best and most famous asset by far is their gas engine. Now they are using GM's powertrain for propulsion. So if a honda, isn't powered by honda anymore, is it still a honda? And also interested to know, will Honda dealerships advertise that the powertrain is from GM and not honda, or will they "kinda try to hide it." How would honda customers feel about that? One of the key reasons people buy a honda is for the reliability of the engine. Finally, I'm sure there's *some,* but I don't know if the majority of honda people feel that GM products are reliable or cross shop honda with GM (as opposed to say Toyota and to some extent Nissan).
@protovack Жыл бұрын

Are there any where you can pick up a few miles of charge and walk it back to your car, when you don't quite make it all the way to the charge station? Are there any where you can charge up, even if you left your phone at home? EVs are still for wealthy people who don't worry about about such things. Most of the rest of us have had to walk a few miles with a gas can. Those who wouldn't stoop to such things are happy to pay $200 to get their car towed to a station. A great majority of people live in places where they can't just charge at home, either. The charge station "solutions" will never be good enough for the majority. Without the majority adopting EVs, the entire thing is pointless. Each Tesla will continue to be surrounded by dozens of pre-2000 ICE vehicles that are being held together with duct tape and bubble gum, burning some oil and leaking some on the ground. Why? Because at least you can still put a $20 bill on a counter, and have a person turn on a pump, so you can get your kids to school and yourself to work that day.

Wasn't their first hybrid the prelude?
@eeyorebill04 Жыл бұрын
Their first hybrid in the US was the Insight. Prelude was a sport coupe favored by “tuners” in the late nineties after the first Fast & Furious came out.
@TheCharleseye Жыл бұрын
@@eeyorebill04Trust me, it was favored by tuners before the first F&F movie came out. The Prelude existed from '78-'01, IIRC. Anything Honda and 2-door has been sought after for such things for a long time. Other than the Prelude, it was the CRX, Del Sol, etc (the 2-door Civics of any variant, really). There are things like the S2000 but they were pretty niche. The tuner scene loves cheap cars that can be spooled out as fast as you can afford to make them.

Should be built in and designed in JAPAN
@davidmenasco5743 Жыл бұрын
That would be nice. Unfortunately the Japanese auto industry made a big mistake when they decided not to go electric. They had good reasons for this decision. But it turns out, there were much better reasons to go electric. They didn't want to be dependent on China for the battery materials (while the whole legacy auto industry was making excuses why EVs won't work, the Chinese were buying up the minerals and getting ready to DO IT). Now, the Japanese automakers are about to lose most of their customers to Chinese brands if they can't bring some good EVs to market RIGHT NOW. And of course it's not just the Chinese. The companies that lose the most customers to Tesla are Honda and Toyota. Five years from now, Japanese factories will be making a lot of very good EVs, with good quality, good reliability and good value. But I hope those companies can survive through the very difficult period between now and 5 years from now.

Still a Google car... sigh... still no go for me because of that. Why do these companies tie their destiny to another company, beats me. Google has a bad reputation when it comes to privacy. With cars like these, the user has no choice.

Still looking at Tesla for our first EV,I have a company car Chevrolet Bolt and the charging stations suck.A Tesla would give us access to Tesla network.
@TheCharleseye Жыл бұрын
If you think the Tesla network is good, you should check out the network of 100% compatible gas stations in the US! It's like everywhere you look, there's another station that can get you back on the road in just a couple of minutes. Crazy, right? They even take cash and don't require you to use a special app! 🧠💥

Car makers don't make front and rear bumpers anymore????
@TheCharleseye Жыл бұрын
Of course not. If you have something to protect the car from low speed impacts - that is easy to just replace - you won't wreck it as easily and consider buying a new car. The easier a car gets totalled, the easier the next sale is.

Back in the early '90s, Honda was caught snoozing when the first SUV wave hit. They had to make a deal to buy Izusu Rodeos rebadged as Passports. The Honda reputation suffered from the poor quality and high warranty costs. So here we are again with Honda caught snoozing with EVs. Not as bad this time because the had time to provide some design input. But they are buying the drive train and running gear from GM. The chassis is all new design and completely unproven. So, would you pay a premium for this first generation shopped out "Honda" vehicle with middling specs?
@TheCharleseye Жыл бұрын
Anyone with half a brain, who doesn't have ridiculous amounts of money to throw away, doesn't buy a first year vehicle anyway. I let the fools and the wealthy be the beta testers. I have never felt the need to waste money on something that will almost certainly have some pretty big bugs to sort out. It's not like any company can be trusted to just put out a good, reliable product any more.

so is GM building these? I think both this and the ac look great. It's neat that GM isn't going to put apple CarPlay in them but you can still get the same basic car as the new caddy but with CarPlay for less $$

I'm sure it's a nice vehicle, but another SUV? FFS please someone make a nice modestly sized sedan. How about an electric Civic or Accord? FYI- that roof is not super low by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I want to know who actually touches interior panels beside the steering wheel and door handle?
@imfloridano5448 Жыл бұрын
If the manufacturers will try to lighten the weight of the vehicle while keeping the chassis strong will help with inceeaded distance. Their are new light weight foams for insulation and seating. More one piece parts instead if many like Tesla does
