In this video, Tommy takes another look at the VinFast VF8 -- an electric SUV from Vietnamese automaker VinFast that aims to establish a foothold for the brand in the U.S. While its intentions are ambitious, reviews haven't been kind to this new arrival. In my area, the lease deal on the VF8 is crazy good. $1,000 down and $249 a month for 36 months, excluding taxes/fees. Compare that to the current Model Y lease of $3k down and $449 a month for 36 months, excluding taxes/fees. At the end of the lease, you’ll have shelled out over twice as much for the Tesla - $19,146 vs $9,964. Given the ever changing state of EV technology, getting a great lease may be the best way to go, assuming the mileage cap won’t be an issue.

@@vutran3183 LOL A “period of days” for a software update? That’s funny. Also, I’ve had to leave my Tesla overnight for repairs. A full warranty would guarantee a loaner car. I’ve had many many Tesla loaner cars for repairs and maintenance. Also, range isn’t that far off from the competition. My area has a robust charging infrastructure, making road trips easy. I doubt I would get one. Just pointing out that the current lease price makes it a good buy compared to the Model Y.

@@ChienNguyen-nx4yw I agree that we can't really expect a new product to be seamless. I was addressing the exuse @EdgarRenje was using to say that nothing could be done because of international markets. The car is capable of GPS. It is a simple if statement to decide if you fall under EU rules or not. Put the blame where it belongs: the software engineers never even thought of coding for different markets. You see this in the lagacy OEMs selling Canadian spec cars that can't be changed without changing hardware. They're all idiots. I have spent a lot of time trying to train OEM software teams to be more flexible. That's one of the reasons they are saltering in the face of companies like Tesla.

Hyundai was selling cars for 12 years in the US before offering the 10yr powertrain warranty. Hyundai sold purely on price for over a decade before throwing in that warranty to further entice buyers. I bought a Hyundai new in 2010 and owned it for 5 years. The warranty was worthless. Unless there was a CEL or other light on, they wouldn't even investigate issues. I gave Hyundai a chance and will never buy another regardless of price/warranty.

I can't think of a consumer EV that lets you fully disable the traction control. An electric motor is basically an on/off switch if no current control is in place. No matter what you need to have some amount of traction control in place. Otherwise you get a result like this where you have 100% of the torque immediately and you end up with an uncontrolled situation. As much as I love a good burn out, I would say this is a dangerous design. It's totally uncontrollable. Vinfast really should patch that.

@@kevtheobald The car is not completely outdated, it is still very good, the 2024 model has fixed the car's hardware errors and only software problems remain. For me, the software problem is similar to that of Tesla when it first built a car. 8 years ago, I had a Tesla from a friend in California. I tried it and had the same problem as Vinfast. If this company can survive the next 5 years, they will There will be a solid foothold. As for the price of the car, I agree that it is quite expensive, but considering that it is imported and does not have subsidies from the government, the price is quite reasonable, I know they have plans to build factory in America, if this car will have a more competitive price with competitors, yes we also have new options, let them develop, anyway we have the same lesson as Toyota when they first came to America, Maybe Vinfast will be like them or at least achieve half of what Toyota has tried since its appearance in the US.

So many Vinfast bots/shills in these comments saying “the 2024 fixes all the issues”. Astroturfing doesn’t work when it’s so obvious. That said, it does look like Vinfast has put in the work over the last year to overcome the initial issues, and now it feels like the VF8 is a competent EV, comparable to a Toyota bz4x or similar. An acceptable commuter/city car with _occasional_ road-trip chops. Honestly, it seems like their biggest problem is their anemic dealer/service network, and the price has to come down significantly. But the product itself is acceptable now. And unlike Fisker, Vingroup has some staying power.

I think we should give them more time, anyway look at Tesla's early years when they first made the car, their problems were more than this car. Now, Tesla cars are selling very well. Give them another 3 - 5 years and they may no longer exist or they will truly develop into a reputable brand with good quality. However, this 2024 version also proves that they have improved and listened to customers' opinions. row. In the near future, I heard that in the last quarter of this year they will sell their VF9 car in the US. According to information, I know that this car has much better quality because the company has invested heavily in it. The problem I think is the least attractive of the car is the price. Importing from Vietnam and not receiving subsidies from the US government causes the price of the car to increase quite a lot, making it stand at the price of a segment. different cars, but nonetheless their lease is much more attractive than Tesla's.
