Lucid is really one of the best EV's made today. Very impressive. Just beautiful car. They need to ship the Gravity fast. I am an efficiency nerd so the sedan checks my boxes. Just the cost is the barrier for us poor people. Also their charging capabilities are way ahead of the market which is a double edged sword. This company deserves a LOT more attention and accolades than it gets. It is beautiful. If money were no object the Lucid would probably be the EV I would want to be in since I am more of an efficiency cruiser type.

for most people taller wagons are great and sedans are stupid. Most modern 'SUV' are just tall wagons, sometimes called 'crossovers,' car-based, decently efficient, more comfortable and with practical hatchback cargo room. Sure some are too big like the Tahoe and too off-road-overbuilt like a 4Runner which 95% do not need. But sedans are done, make no sense and should go away. I regret buying the new V8 E-class I bought years ago as a sedan just to get the best engine - wish I had bought the wagon, and sold it because I really wanted a wagon hatch in the back. OTOH the Lucid and Model S are the only 2 sedans with a ton of cargo volume, but still not boxy enough in the back for my purposes and I'd like more ground clearance even just for speed bumps and my paved driveway.

The 2025 models are even more efficient than this one in the video. Hopefully Lucid makes a deal with Hankook tires because the Hankooks are way more efficient than the pirelli pzero’s. I switched from 19’s to 21’s which would normally be a huge hit to the range but with Hankook ION Evo’s I only got a 15mile hit. The range is incredible.

Hi, the reason why Lucid went with a lower volume car is that their Phase 1 Factory cannot accommodate High Demand Vehicle. Their Phase 2 and 3 had just been completed and in time for Gravity and their midsize Sedan. Which if I am correct will be a 5 Series/E Class interior with a 3 Series/C Class Exterior will be coming out off.

ICE lovers that hate EVs are just going to hate. They complain about speed on the highway and you give them speed. They complain about minimal interior and styling and you give them luxury. They complain about range and you knock it out of the ballpark. When prices come down, and they will, all that will be left is, " i just don't like them, i like my gas car better." I own a Stinger gt2 and an EV6. I will buy a Lucid once the prices come down.

Many of the early Lucids were the owner's 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th cars. They were largely well cared for and have relatively low mileage. Lucid has been great at updating software over the air and has been proactive at getting any recalls taken care of. Combine this with the rapid depreciation of any luxury car and it means that you can find some great deals on super-well equipped Lucids today.

@@Cloud30000 Valid, never the less before I retired I commuted for several years using just the 120v outlet in my garage to charge a Nissan Leaf or a Chevy Volt. Charging at 1kW overnight from the outlet in my garage was always enough to cover my 29 mile round trip with plenty left over. Both cars got at least 3 miles per kW hour even in winter. Once I retired and got my Lucid I went a couple months before installing a 240v socket. The 120v outlet was OK for daily maintenance but I would visit a fast charger every few weeks to top up for the longer trips I was taking. Renting w/ no 240v would be a pain, but is not unworkable with a Lucid unless you have a really long commute and no 120v socket where you park.

I do like the Lucid air. Not a fan of the RWD (pure), so the cost is €110k for the touring or €140k. So basically we are in the Taycan or EQS price bracket. I currently drive that i5 40e and what amazes me is how efficient it is in summer. I can drive 300km from 80->10% at 130km/h. Same goes with the air. So efficient due to the shape. In the future I hope a shooting break comes out (niche market). I don’t really need more space, but sometimes I have bigger items (party tent) which needs a bigger opening to the rear with the seats down.

@stephenj4937
@stephenj4937 2 ай бұрын
Batteries are very expensive to provide this range. I think Hyundai/Kia are doing it the right way for commuter cars by giving them very fast DC charging speeds. Drive 250-300 miles, plug in for 15 minutes, and you are ready to go another 250 miles or so. As DC fast charging networks expand the need to carry huge expensive (and heavy) batteries will diminish for the average driver.
@MrIpjrobson
@MrIpjrobson 2 ай бұрын
@@stephenj4937 For sure the batteries are going to be the one of the main reasons why it will take a while for commuter cars to get this combo. I think as battery tech gets better and we can put more juice into a smaller battery, we will see some nice efficiency numbers. I agree that with fast charging centers expanding and getting better it will be great. I know in Ontario, Canada, often I've seen charging stations not being properly maintained, so in some cases there are inoperable chargers.

@@stephenj4937 Lucid is prioritizing efficiency because you can get by with a smaller battery. The Air can do 5 miles per kWh. The mid size will do 6 miles. It's because the packaging minimizes aero drag.
@Miata822
@Miata822 2 ай бұрын
Lucid will introduce its smaller mid-size line of vehicles starting in 2026. Lucid's high efficiency drive units and electronics lets them get more range our of a battery so ultimately they can use fewer batteries to get enough range. Batteries are the most costly part of an EV so using fewer will reduce cost. That's the plan.

Lucid made the Air sedan first for two reasons. Firstly, because sedans do sell less. Lucid opened with a small factory while they were building the adjacent 3+million square foot automated factory next door. The large factory expansion is just now coming online, but two years ago they couldn't have built all the SUVs people would have ordered. Secondly, journalists love sedans. The first Lucid, the 1,111hp Dream Edition was expensive and was packed with every possible option. This was a car for enthusiasts and for the reviewers who did gush about it and give it every possible award. In brief, the Air sedan was built to make people aware of the brand while Lucid was building their SUV factory. I got my Air GT 2 years ago and must disagree about the cars handling. With 21' wheels it does handle like a sports sedan (think BMW M5). Maybe pop up to Poudre canyon, switch TC to reduced in Sprint mode, and give it a shot. I have run that and many other fun roads after driving from my home base in Texas. The Lucid is great on the freeway which makes it easy to get to the fun roads from here.

Air GT Owner, first of all charging range and actual driving range are two different things completely. Sure if you drive 100% perfectly and push the battery to zero, you might get that range, but who is ever going to do that? I consistantly get 470 charging mile range but never push it beyond 450 drivng mile range. Who drives their ICE to empty just to get stranded on the side of the road as though that is normal? No one. No one in the real world is going to do that in an EV either. Personal opinions should not be part of your review, but that said for the most part focusing on the range is exactly where the Air GT shines. To many tubers focus on the power and speed..who cares. I think your complaint about the fun factor and the sound of the engine is just a fear of adjusting to new tech....I'm sure some old timer thought that being pulled by a horse and hearing nature was far more better than hearing the sound of an engine on a ride. Get over it! Overall, a fairly good review, and you are exactly right, I got my Air GT in 2022 used with less than 500 (test drive miles), for cheaper than they are now new. But buyers need to be aware that the price of the vehicle isn't where it ends, Insurance will take a big bite out of your pocket as well! IMO, leasing is the best option right now for this unit. Good Luck and Take Care.

The problem with this car isn't the shape. It's that even the base version is in the premium price range( the cheapest option now is 85k€ in Germany and 88k€ in Netherlands) . People want highly efficient electric cars. If they offered some basic version in Europe(88kWh battery, 200-250kW motors, 18" wheels) with an end price in the 60k -65k€ range. They could easily triple their global sales here. As the ID7 accounts for nearly 35% of VW's EV sales in some markets this year, BMW is in a similar position with its i4 and i5 models.

The downside of the screens, in my opinion, is that they are too dim. If they either went with matte screen or 1500+ nits it would make all the fingerprints on screen non-issue.

How long will this car continue to operate without digital services provided by lucid in the backend should the company go under is a question thats more on my mind that the range 😅 sadly

Brief experiences with an early adopter-grade EV make for great fun. But reliability and quality of service for a Lucid are a big question mark, especially when you're comparing to an established brand like Mercedes.

The 'test' you could do is to drive away from home until you use up the battery. Ten find a place to charge it. Range isn't important when road tripping. Charging is what creates anxiety for non Tesla potential owners. Let's see your experience on a 600 mile trip. Remember your trip from Florida in the M3.

Roman's comment about Model S being 'austere' is not always correct. My Model S came with the premium interior, and I've had people tell me is the most beautiful luxurious car they've ever sat in. Every material and fit and finish is as good as any other car i've been in. As for the Lucid, Jason Camisa called it 'Tesla 2.0', and I believe that's correct. The lucid is an amazing car.

The reason Lucid is kind of failing to make a big name for itself is because of the pricing. At $125K (as tested), it just doesn't stand out enough. If the Sapphire were $125K, now we're talking. For $150K+, people are thinking supercar or luxury. The Sapphire will perform like a supercar, but it doesn't look the part. It's a luxury liner, and while I think it looks marvelous, it doesn't have that big name sway like Rolls Royce or Bentley. Here's how to fix this Lucid. Bring the Sapphire down to $100K. Start the car at $50K. The GT you guys tested should be $75K. Also Tommy, I'd love to see how that Dreamdrive works if you guys get your hands on a Lucid again. I think the glass roof is cool too.

What charging system do they use can they use a Tesla quick charge?
@davidditzler2704
@davidditzler2704 2 ай бұрын
They use a CCS plug. Electrify America or others work well. It can charge faster at Electrify America than it could at a Tesla because they push more amps. Its Plug and Charge so just pull up and put in the cable and it starts charging in a few seconds

Lucid built the sedan first to purposely enter a low volume segment. You can't be an upstart EV company and right away start with a high volume SUV. I believe there were long waits to even get the expensive first run Airs.

well there you go, the range does not come out of outstanding technology but because they used biggest battery which also has to be charged therefore longer... this car looks amazing rides amazing it has nice range, but because it's just car for huge price also related to battery size, it will get ignored... yes, they should have make 1st model x like suv but their way, this car shines like sun but it's just as unreachable
