The Torsen front axle in the Ford is a mechanical torque sensitive locking device and will lock when needed. It can transfer anywhere between 0% and 100% of the torque. The Toyota however uses the rear wheels brakes to transfer torque. There is no device. That is an algorithm. This is another good example of a company brand naming something to trick the public.

So the new Jeep Gladiator would score a 95 on this scale. I would change a few things slightly at a minimum. Tire size (33" gets a better score than 32"), mud terrain tire scores better than AT, RTI score or suspension travel, oh and selectable lockers should score a bit higher than auto lockers (limited slip is nice but it's not a locker).

TJ Mitchell Films I don't even think the Rubicon version scores nearly as well as the Raptor. You are wrong about the locker thing too. The Torsen Differential works better then an e-locker on a front axle. Wranglers, Gladiators, LC 70 series and G-wagons can't even activate their front lockers in 4WD high! My questions are these, ... Is there an after market improvement, ...that if added to each competitor (fairly and equally), ...would alter the outcome of the list? Do any of these models have warranties that allow for any modifications? Including tires? If the most expensive model was held as a cap, ...could another model surpass it with after market improvements, ...without passing that cap?

My stock 2001 F150 XL 4x4 scores a 70 without cameras or undercarriage armor or knowing it's approach, departure, or break over angle. I disagree with your scoring. You are not rating actual performance like high speed off road, water fording, clearance (to diff, axles, and chassis), or axle articulation. You're basically doing a paper test like it's an on road truck. For example, the Raptor is likely the best high speed off-roader but the Rebel road crawls better.
@fabulousoffroaddesigns50804 жыл бұрын
My 122 inch F-150 shorty would score the same as the Raptor as it would get 5% for break over and lose 5% for cameras. It has some definite advantages over the new Raptor though. It is narrower, shorter, lighter, and cheaper. It has a tighter turning circle, higher payload, better towing, and you can lock the rear axle in 2WD. That can be helpful and fun. I still agree with their scoring.
@mjg63775 жыл бұрын
I applaud you being more scientific about grading these trucks. The facial hair gets an A+ too. So if the Rebel has air suspension then it gains 5% for meeting criterion of departure angle which puts the score at 81.7. Next year when they add the front camera that’ll put it at 86.7; hopefully. Factoring in hill decent and crawl control could make it interesting although i see why you wouldn’t include it. Although not half-tons, I’d like to see where the ZR2 and Tacoma rank.
@fabulousoffroaddesigns50805 жыл бұрын
Mike Mike air suspension will not achieve a 25% departure angle.

We can't include an RTI? I know the Raptor won already, but that is an important factor. Also, an AT4 with the cameras (which I have and love) would have scored the same as the Raptor here. But it is not the same as the Raptor off road. This is where the RTI (wheel articulation) would play a huge factor.

TFL, u need to add another category to this, dependability.....in that case, Tundra moves to the top of list, then Pro4x, TBoss, F150, and RAM

Most trucks or SUV´s that have a part-time 4x4 system doesn´t have a center differential, but it works the same way as a locked center differential since it distributes the torque 50/50 front and rear (e.g. when in 4HI or 4LO). The Mitsubishi Pajero (Mitsubishi Shogun or Montero in some markets) is one exception.
@TheLeestarr2 жыл бұрын
Other than the Tailpipes and hitch, The Ford to me did better than the Dodge or Chevy. The Ford kept the wheels on the ground better and had no trouble climbing the steep grade where the Chevy and Dodge both spun,slid sideways almost hitting the tree. 15,000 more would be a tough decision.

The Toyota Tundra is without a doubt the best built truck on the market. It's more reliable, it's more than capable, and it's plenty big enough. The only reason why it hasn't sold well in the US has been the typical U.S. pickup truck buyer's mentality: "it's not American." They would rather buy a Fiat built POS with the ram logo on it, or deal with the problematic engines in the Chevy Silverado / GMC Sierra, than to be caught dead in an American-built Japanese product. This would be hilarious if it wasn't so damn xenophobic. As for me personally, the only vehicle I will touch is a Toyota.

Yeah tundra is not the greatest for off-roading, tundra loss this one for sure ! Raptor always takes the cake I’m in the market for a truck I love the power wagon inside and out but not sure I trust the transmission on it for too long the same goes for Chevy. My brother replaced his tranny on his 2017 Chevy at 120k miles and my buddy on his 2016 1500 ram at just 100kmiles Wont go Ford cuz I drive those for work to many electrical and general issues. My buddies 2017 f150 seems to be at the shop at the worst possible times.Titan just has a bad stigma to it not sure I trust it yet I need more research. I drive a Tacoma now and only had oil changes at 180k miles. My dad has a Tacoma at 360k with only tune ups and nothing fixed on the engine ,no transmission swap or any major maintenance at all. I’d probably just get a tundra because of the low maintenance cost. Also once you trick the trd tundra out overland style it looks pretty sick. Yeah.. think I’ll stick to Toyota 👍🏼 2nd choice would be the power wagon!

TFL = The Ford Lovers. The Raptor is a very expensive toy not a real truck. To be fair you should bring the best F150 off-road package as the other brands. Honestly the Raptor can’t be used for real world work as the others because it is so dedicated just to monkey around. But you will not do that because you know a real world Ford 150 will not win. 😉
@brandonanewalt18805 жыл бұрын
Humberto Rubi the video was trying to place objective scoring and rating system to rank the top end off road packages of each major manufacturer’s trucks. You come in with your opinions without substantiating a single thing. I think there should have been some sort of pricing metric but beyond that I’m not sure why you’re complaining that the raptor was measured.
@humbertorubi49475 жыл бұрын
Brandon Anewalt I think this all about on social media? I can express my opinion right? Now, my point is the Raptor is in its own league. For a fair comparison they should use the best FX4 or whatever Ford have. The Raptor isn’t per se an F150 as it have lots of different engineering and very specialized parts and factory mods. Also when it comes to Toyota people said a LSD or torsen is not a real locking diff, but if it is on its favorite truck of course it is and counts as a diff lock in the score. Finally they said the A/T tires in the Tundra aren’t? Or they want M/T tires? I’m ok if like the Ford it is a nice toy but they should be less biased towards domestics. Again just my opinion 😉
