Regardless of all the changes, new engines and everything else... the most important thing is going to be price like Nathan mentioned near the end. If they mark this below Ford and Chevy, they are going to be successful with conquest sales. If they go above then their sales figures will mimic the last 10 years and at that point... what's the point of even having? Why spend all the time and money in R&D to bring out a truck that 80% of the truck buyers don't want. Price will determine the success.

No offence, but I hope you are wrong. If the most important thing to you is price, there are plenty of domestic vehicles available. The reason I have been a die hard fan of toyota my entire life is because real life usability and reliability has always been the "most important thing" to toyota. It's the reason I still drive a 30 year old toyota with over 400,000km that never let me down. Obviously we all want low prices, but in the end you get what you pay for.

@MrBobbyBrown2006 3 жыл бұрын
@@es4326 You miss the entire point of my comment. You're saying something literally everyone already knows. This isn't about owning a vehicle for 30 years, it's about conquest sales. Getting new customers and more market share is the only thing that's going to ensure the Tundra has a long production life. They ate terribly low sales for more than a decade as a placeholder, and now it's their time to shine. They must do it, and getting new customers means having reasonable prices.

Well said. This is why the 95,000 dollar Ford Lightning and other new trucks are so ridiculous. No one in their right mind pays that sort of money for a light duty, non industrial, vehicle designed to haul and tow things, and that depreciates. Truck prices are just insane. I know gas isn’t 59 cents a gallon like it was in my youth, but 70, 80…100,000 prices are absurd. These amounts are MORTGAGE money. I guess my generation will have to die off before truck manufacturers can get EVERYONE to think those are normal prices for a truck.
@DannyO0917
@DannyO0917 Жыл бұрын
To play the devil's advocate; there are pick up trucks ranging from $22k (base maverick) - $100k+ (raptor r), so there is something for every budget. So, while you may not want to spend $70k+ on a truck, you don't have to but it is nice that the other options exist for those that want/choose to spend that much. It is cool to see TRX and Raptors on the road, even if looking from a lesser truck.

". I dont care how many turbos you add and what the HP and torque numbers are . There is no replacement for displacement." This is a self-defeating statement if I ever saw one. If power is made in prodigious amounts from a smaller 3.5-liter engine, and we are going from a 5.7 liter V8 that cannot compete, how and why do people keep regurgitating that same tired phrase, over and over?? Your argument is just that you prefer a V8 of which there is absolutely nothing wrong with that preference. But for love of physics please stop with proven time and again that displacement is no guarantee of superiority. We have seen smaller displacement force-fed engines in all kinds of road cars and race cars that, by the laws of physics, strongly disagree.

But even if we assume the engineers got it right and these engines will last ... where they can never compete with a v8 for real truck duty is while towing and using the engine to be your brakes going down mountain passes with a heavy load. The smaller v6 simply does not have the displacement for this. I have driven many many miles in F150’s with both the 5.0 v8 .. and both ecoboost v6’s. And even empty without a trailer ... The tundra is a lifestyle vehicle more than it is an actual working man's truck. As far as this trucks relation to the big 3 go, it's nothing more than a catch up. Problem is Toyota being Toyota, its already foreshadowing obsolescence, and thats why if they did take the big 3 seriously, they'd fail. They can't afford to do the 4-5 year refreshing the big 3 can, while also topping them out in the numbers game. The big 3 is a whole different ball game in comparison to what toyotas philosophy is. Toyota doesnt do class leading numbers. People don't buy the big 3 for reliability, they do it for show. In 3 years, they're already moving on to another new truck to look on top. I disagree with Nathan, I think the Tundra looks great. I would probably get a Limited or Platinum, depending on how each trim looks with the grills and interior. I have been highly anticipating this release because I am a previous Tundra owner and it looks like Toyota has addressed some of the issues I had with my 2016. One is gas mileage (the other is interior and tech) I love the twin turbo idea (like Ford's Eco-boost) and I love the hybrid idea... still waiting for actual numbers on both of these. I DO agree with the guys about Toyota not doing enough to compete with Ford's hybrid option - I was really looking forward to being able to use the hybrid when camping, etc. Because they didn't match what Ford is doing with the hybrid... the numbers need to be better and the pricing needs to be WAY better than Ford. Since they didn't put an inverter in the hybrid, I may just consider the V6 without the hybrid if the gas mileage numbers are close and if the hybrid costs a lot more. Anxious to see the mileage numbers and pricing this next week hopefully. Andre, please do a video comparing the Ford hybrid to the Tundra hybrid as soon as you have pricing. When I built out an F-150 hybrid Limited, it was about $70k. With the lack of functionality, Toyota's hybrid needs to be be WAY less expensive.

Nothing surpasses F150 and Ram. The under seat battery is an afterthought fix seems they didn't want hybrid until saw f150 powerbòost. No 4 corner air springs. The rear two doors are steel to cut cost instead of to cut weight, Chevy has all the four doors of aluminum.

@Daniel G you didn't listen to the two guys talking about the battery position. These two are nice guys, kindly mentioned F150 has it in the frame. The benefits are lower center of gravity and space in cabin.

I have a lot of faith in the new tundra, Toyota has always used very good parts packages under the hood/brakes/cooling/etc. Koyo japan bearings, Asin water pumps, denso alternators and other denso parts, etc, this is the biggest secret to their longevity, these parts do not need replacing under 100k like the big 3 parts packages, this is what creates the overall reliability of the trucks. Most these parts in the Toyotas are good for 200-300K without replacement with regular mantainence.

The amount of second guessing that goes on of a company like Toyota is hilarious to me.

I want front bench seat and different taillights. Also more head room in back seat and less chiseled look over the wheels. I will be keeping my 2018 SR5 CrewMax 4X4 for now. I only paid $39000 OTD new!

Fact: The G3 Tundra is about efficiencies (more $ for them & better MPG for owners) and intended for the next generation of truck buyers. Opinion: The 22’ resembles no other modern truck.

I wish they would gone for the more efficient Lithium Ion batteries then... Lighter/more compact means better fuel economy.

I’m driving my 2014 Ram EcoDiesel with around 22mpg and I’m all for Diesel, but if the hybrid has at least the same mpg it’s really worth thinking about it. Especially with Toyota’s reliability. I had so many issues with my Ram (EGR, air suspension, Bluetooth) that it told my dealer that I’m pretty much done with Ram and their quality. I do like the new design! Still need the numbers and prices up here in Canada to make a decision!!!

I hope there is an option to completely turn off that gigantic screen, as it is too much unnecessary pressure on the eyes especially during night driving. And yes, luck of storage in hybrid is big downturn

they did enough if the powertrain and engine has usual Toyota quality standards like the past tundra's and if they price it just below the big three to grab more market share but Stealers are going to be marking it up
