Its essentially a non-chrome denali ultimate, with a lift and lockers rather than chrome, and street wheels and tires. Im not a chrome fan so i like the AT4X better than denali ultimate. There was a time 80 mph in a 4x4 pickup truck was insane. Still is if you have to make emergency maneuvers. I have responded to many accidents at that estimated speed. Many fatal. Once you loose traction you are in a 6500 lb odd shaped Boulder bouncing rolling down the road. Many fatalities were still buckled in, but the G-forces generated in the end for end flips can be fatal in themselves. For those that say the seatbelts killed them, the accident where people were thrown clear at those speeds were always fatalities in my 30 years. You would have to search for bodies they would fly that far!! This is on east rolling prairies!! If you are in mountain passes?? Well,,,, stupid is as stupid does.

And the best mileage at 50 mile intervals was 36.4 miles per gallon through NC where the speed limit was 65mph. Towing a 1999 accord sedan on a U-Haul car trailer (approximately 5k lbs) I got 17 mpg after 260 miles and towing my GSX-R 1000 on a 5x7 trailer (approximately 1k lbs) I got 22 mpg after 250 miles. I am up and down I95 from FL to VA so flat lands and sea level. Also I refill my def tank once an oil change (around 7500 miles) usually from truck stops. I have my oil changed at 2-0% with factory oil and filter. I have had samples for last three oil changes analyzed by Blackstone oil testing company and they all showed I still had at lest 1500 miles of oil protection left with engine problem indicator. I will continue to randomly get them checked as she gets more miles on her. So when you say your gas truck get 600 miles per tank could you include information above so everyone can compare more evenly. Tank size, truck weight, activity and speed actually matters when someone is thinking of what to buy. We are here to help others not our egos. Example: 600 miles with a 36 gallon tank is approximately 16.7 mpg vs 650 miles from 24 gallons is approximately 27 mpg.

@shitloveaduck Жыл бұрын
The Trail Boss diesel has a decent payload. You have to learn how to drive with the Eaton Automatic Locking Rear differential, but it’s very effective once you learn the technique. Hint: don’t learn from Andrey. He is too tentative. Nathan runs off-road well with the set up, Tommy is really smooth in his most recent videos where he has learned driving with it, and Kase is getting there. Roman & Alex are also not the best to learn from. The big benefit of it is that you learn steady, constant throttle control to keep it engaged and as a result get pretty darn smooth as far as off-road driving goes.
@killercan10 Жыл бұрын
If you can forgive the lack of the e-lockers but want the diesel, the Custom Trail Boss with the 3.0 Duramax is a much more affordable starting platform. GM sells the DSSVs as a direct upgrade kit for the Trail Boss (and AT4) so you can add those to it. Custom TB should have the highest payload of the off road spec trucks (TB, AT4, ZR2 and AT4X) as it has the least amount of equipment on it so to speak (off road bumpers, lighter tires, less interior options). A Custom TB with the 3.0 Duramax starts at $56,635. The DSSVs and rear spring kit through the accessories catalog is $4495. You get the DSSVs, rear springs and will gain 2 inches of front travel and 1 inch rear travel to a stock Trail Boss or AT4. You can always add bumpers and the extra skids and still will come out much cheaper than the AT4X or ZR2 Bison.

We bought a 2023 Sierra SLT X31 4 wheel drive with the 3.0liter Duramax this past June. We just took it on a road trip from Fort Worth out to Big Bend National Park. The trip computer said that over 1500 miles we averaged 27mpg. That mileage included highway speeds as well as park speeds on flat roads as well as some climbing and descending in the Chisos Mountains. At that MPG, the range of the truck is over 600 miles. Driving in our small town and on highways to and in the Metroplex, I can get an average of 26mpg. This engine, is so quiet, torquey, and mated to the 10 speed transmission, it shifts quickly and effortlessly. Since we don’t tow, I have noted no excessive oil consumption and the 5 gallon DEF tank lasts about 5000 miles. It is a great vehicle for our needs.

@ALMX5DP Жыл бұрын
All depends on what you’re towing in terms of trailer type, size, weight and aerodynamic profile.

My 23 High Country has overall averaged 26.4 since new. The AT4X/ ZR2 will get slightly less due to ride height and more aggressive tires.
@Jay-me7gw Жыл бұрын
Just based on the MPG's I see reported on the Duramax groups when people do a level and tires, I think the average would be lower than 25.

Enjoyed the overall introduction evaluation of this pickup. However, I never trust the computer estimate of fuel economy. I wish the standard great TFL method of filling up, and then a roundtrip back with another fill-up was done to get an truly realistic mpg number.

Neat truck but I really like my '23 F-150 with V8. Easy to get 21mpg on highway and with 36 gallon fuel tank that gives me 756 miles of range. I just run 87 gas and that is a lot cheaper then diesel, in my area. I've also been towing at max 13000 (weight distribution hitch and trailer breaks) and it handles it like a champ. I get 10 or 11 when towing at max tow. My payload is 2507lb. I really do like diesel but I can't justify it with the numbers on this GMC and we didn't even talk about DEF. I suppose the GMC Sierra is better at off road.

@@bobwelch2497 My truck is ‘23 F-150 XL, Supercab, V8, 4x4, with 8’ bed. It has both max tow and max payload packages. I also opted for center console, spray in bed liner, running boards, and hard tonneau cover. So far, it as been a great hard working truck and I just hit 7k miles. MSRP for mine was $53,215. They will no longer offer this truck in ‘24 as the ‘8 bed isn’t available with super crew.

My wife’s 21 Tundra gets 500 mile range with a V8. Granted it only can get 18mpg at best but the giant gas tank more than makes up. Of course her Tundra was nearly 40k less than this GMC.

same with my 2014 Ecoboost. I did 720 miles one time on the 36 gallon tank and my average tank is probably 550-650 miles. Of course I was only on 275/60R20 Duratracs but still.

500 less payload then a Ridgeline 😁. Also worth mentioning that this engine is borrowed from Opel who designed it for use in cab over trucks. Because of that, when put into a pickup it requires the transmission to be removed to replace the oil pump belt. Magically, GM says that’s not needed until 200k miles, up from 150k previously. Also, the fuel pump is in spot where it’ll likely be. $3k job to replace it-at 100k. But, I guess if you’re paying $95k for a pickup you’re not keeping it long enough to care.
@jowens4883 Жыл бұрын
These prices on most new vehicles, is out of control. People just have to stop buying these expensive vehicles and the manufactures will have to bring cost down. I hope? Then you also are paying diesel fuel prices. Unless your towing small excavators etc. Oh wait, most people drive these trucks as status symbols these days.
@OdysseyOffroad Жыл бұрын
Idk to me 20mpg, low payload and tow capacity isn't worth the extra 1.00$ per gallon cost of fuel plus def. I got that on my trailboss 5.3 with 20speed. And my new tundra. Good video none the less and definitely q beautiful truck.

the mini duramax is not reliable. has internal parts that are meant to break and cause huge repair bills. the wet belt to drive the oil pump is a 100k mile wear item.
@Jay-me7gw Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I think the 2.7L Ecoboost or GM 2.7L are probably the most ideal engines for a 1/2 ton in most cases(the ones where people buy a half ton and dont tow with them). Both get very good MPG's on a much cheaper fuel.
@craigstark2712 Жыл бұрын
@@Jay-me7gw I don't know about that. The 2.7 turbo has the same EPA highway rating as my 6.2, with much less accelerating power. The 2.7 is more ideal in the Canyon's and Colorado's, in my opinion.
