I understand why TFL use the stock tires even when they are plainly not in their element. I wish Tire manufacturers would reach out and partner with them.
@nathanwoten623611 ай бұрын
It's the vehicle manufacturer that sets the "rules" / guidelines and there told they can't modify the vehicles in any way and I guess changing the tire is considered modifying. I think they should get them a few sets of rims (find a wheel company like fuel or even Mikey Thompson because they have exelent tires with a wide variety from street & drag to AT/MT & non dot offroad tired and a good assortment of wheels) then they could take the wheel and tire off test the truck or what ever with a decent set of tires off road and then reinstall the OE tires when they return the truck. But I'm sure the manufacturer wouldn't like that for some reaso.
@nathanwoten623611 ай бұрын
I think first off they need a ARB portable air compressor (or any portable air compressor ARB single or twin portables are just the best ive used or seen by far) to take with them. Then they can actually air down to 12psi or 15psi or what ever they need to. Especially in this snow and sand it would be night and day diffrence in traction. Then with the compressor they can get back up to highway pressure in a reasonable time and be on there way with no issues.

Im buying the GMC AT4X AEV. It has a steel composite skid plates and those awesome reservoir shocks and crawl mode, all under factory warranty which my dealership provides a lifetime powertrain warranty.

What tire pressures were you guys running. Deflating tires gives you more rock climbing ability

Neither are made for rock climbing and big drop offs. They are made for pulling a trailer on a wet dirt roads that are slick. Trail climbing is more for jeeps and 4runners

I’d honestly like to see this done with the same tires and being that it’s in the snow, something that is 3 peak mountain snowflake rated. I’ve used Falken AT3W and the MT Baja Boss A/T in winters checking and feeding cattle before and loved them. That being said I wasn’t trying to climb trails lol 😂

The Duratrac in the LT285/75R18 is snow rated. The M/T is not, which is interesting.
@KingLuis198511 ай бұрын
@@harlandurant7014 true, but it looks like a lot of packed snow that turned into ice, so unless you have studs. not to mention cold rubber acts very different than a warm tire. think of hockey puck versus eraser.

Both of these are using STOCK tires. Great to see both manufacturers offering excellent, appropriate choices with their off-road packages instead of plain highway all-seasons. With dedicated winters or using chains this would be a very different story and I still think it would be neck-and-neck on this course. Bravo @TFLoffroad for doing an interesting and much needed comparison!

like a 3/4 4x4 single cab 8' box 138" wb not as big as a crew cab with 8' box has a 172" wb , one needs a 5 pass crew cab and tows heavy loads and does lot of long highway driving away from cities , the crew cab works
