@HiPlains13 жыл бұрын
Yeah but it's still based off old VQ technology. It still can't break 22 mpg. Its a high revving motor that does not have much low end torque. They really did not improve the towing and bed capabilities. Truck still weighs allot. Even more then outgoing. After 16 years it can't even be considered a new generation. More of a refresh riding the the same F-alpha platform. The next gen Ranger/Colorado will most likely offer their 2.7 turbos which will destroy it. Its a nice truck but its not future proofed. Nissan should have offered a hybrid as well or smaller displacement with a turbo to offer more low end torque. Because moving forward, its going to be dead last for the low end and MPG's.

What’s the difference between TFLs tundra and the trd pro as far as off road capability? Minus the hybrid power train
@PeakDecline3 жыл бұрын
Suspension and power train. The TRD Pro has Fox shocks that are beefier, about an inch longer, and have a remote reservoir so they can soak a lot more heat without losing performance. They're not even close to the level of shocks on a Raptor (or TRX) but it's a solid step up over the shocks in the TRD Off-road package on TFL's Tundra. Otherwise there's not much else different except a very slight upgrade in tire.

I'd say out of the group, the Santa Cruz was probably the most impressive, I mean it did only trail the new tundra by a fender being just a single turbo 4-banger. That said, I'd most likely take the frontier if I'm looking for a work truck. More capabilities than the Cruz, not as spendy as the full sizers, it should be less prone to failure, and it's a good looking truck. :)
@colten533 жыл бұрын
This. I’m pretty much deciding between a Frontier and a Santa Cruz (I’m not really a fan of the Maverick’s looks even though it is really impressive in capability). The most trucky things I will do are haul dirt bikes and kayaks and help friends move. However, having that longer bed definitely helps with those things and the fuel economy in the Santa Cruz isn’t significantly better to make up the difference. The trim levels I would choose for each one are equally priced as well (SV vs SEL Premium). Plus, you get more street cred with the Frontier at truck shows. I do feel that the Santa Cruz power train is really underrated. It has more horsepower than the current Ford Ranger, and it has more torque than the Frontier as well. I think Hyundai has a good thing going with the Santa Cruz, and I look forward to seeing how they build on that. I would probably start with adding a hybrid AWD option before Ford does and maybe ditching the DCT (although at least it isn’t a CVT).
@Kingswood71893 жыл бұрын
@@colten53 depending on the sort, if in theory, the cruz is rated at 3,500-4k lbs. max tow (I dont know what its rated at) and you'll at most tow 2k-2,500 lbs, itll probably be your go-to "truck". And if you need a bed that's 6' or longer, utility trailers are always a more affordable option. It's nice to get more than what's needed, but sometimes getting whats just right works especially if the price difference is there. My current "truck" is mine and my wifes '04 durango (5.7l v8, 8,700 lbs. max tow) and have used it to move one of my other vehicles (about 4k lbs.) across states. :)

@ldmtag3 жыл бұрын
@@user-tb7rn1il3q you don't wanna stay in a particular gear, you wanna stay in the highest power RPM band possible. That will make sure that no matter the gearing you'll have the best possible wheel torque. If your power peak is close to the redline, you stay in lower gears, it's not always the case though. But the 35'' truck will do the same because why wouldn't it want to win? As for larger wheels: sure they don't weigh that much more than the 35s but they probably have significantly greater rotational inertia. Adding, let's say, 5 lbs to each wheel would slow the truck down much worse than throwing 20 lbs in the bed. And aside from wheels I bet Raptor 37 has biffier shafts, maybe even larger brakes - things that rotate, adding even more slugishness. And despite all that I still would prefer Raptor 37 over the regular one. The base Raptor is no longer the fastest truck, it isn't that much more offroad capable than the TRX or even the ZR2. But those 37s are something no other truck offers so far.

My bro in law had a tune on his non Platinum 2015. He thinks the stock tune may be a bit better on the Platinum since his unturned wasn't as quick as mine. I still haven't tuned mine. I wonder how the GM 1500s with the 6.2 would have done compared to these two. Also would have been fun to throw in the TRX at the end, just to show the difference. I got passed by a TRX on a long stretch of road recently, he also passed the car in front of me, and the 18-wheeler in front of them. It was a very quick pass, and the thing sounded amazing.

I know this was tested in a different location than the test with the Maverick Hybrid, but I find it interesting that the AWD 2.0 turbo Maverick is only marginally faster to 60 than the hybrid. Seems like the Maverick hybrid did 0-60 in like 7.95 seconds vs like 7.75 in the turbo. Granted, the hybrid would probably get progressively slower if you kept in the throttle since the little battery would probably be fully discharged before the end of a 1/4 mile, but still interesting to see that the Maverick turbo was only marginally faster. Also, I strongly dislike the pumped in/phony V8 noise in the Tundra (or fake noises in general). Car manufacturers should either embrace the noise that their engines naturally make or focus on making the interior noise quieter, not filling it with a fake sound.
