Just flipped my WRX to buy this truck. Really appreciate all the reviews, and demonstrations of this truck. You guys are really fun, and I enjoy your content. Think there is allot of value in this Ford product. I ordered the XL STX FX4, and it was 34K. It is the same truck as the fully loaded Lariat, but without the interior upgrades. Thats Awesome!!! My WRX was 30K, and does not have any of the versatility of this Ranger. I am really excited about this power train, and getting back into a Ranger. I had a 2011 FX4 Level 2 4.0V6, with 230K on it, and traded it in towards the WRX a few years ago. I was living in a townhouse, and did not need a truck. Bought a house this summer, and have been going back and forth about getting a truck to do home owner maintenance stuff. Don't need a full size, want to keep in garage, and like the agility of mid size. Then Ford relaunches the Ranger with a Turbo..... basically the WRX of midsize pickups. Ford really did a thing here, and this will be my third Ranger. Really appreciate the content guys. Subscribed, liked, and look forward to more!!!

@@cazmaniandevil1 Oh did you pay 30% more than it's actually worth for that too? Ford charging 34k for an XL is ridiculous and straight up robbery. You can get an F-150 XLT for $34k all day. It shouldn't be a dime over $22k for a base trim (XL). XL trims are fleet/rental grade. Its hard to distinguish with this truck sonce they put so little effort into the interior on the XLT and Lariat trims, so I agree with them not being worth additional money. The truck's pricing is just ridiculous.

@@hochhaul I don't want an F-150...... This truck is flying off the shelf, and people have not even driven it yet. I agree that it is shaking up the market, and Ford leveraged it accordingly. @foghelmut5 жыл бұрын
The Ranger still seems to have an advantage in every other aspect among midsize. It's a shame they're allowed to get away with these Ecoboost claims when they only apply on flat ground at sea level in a controlled environment. I live in the hills and the uphill effort of the engine is never made up by the downhill coasting, my wife is getting 15 mpg city in her 2.0 Ecoboost Edge rated at 20/28. We can hit the highway number if you keep it around 50-60 mph, but that's unrealistic on the freeway. I've got an Impreza that I'm looking to replace with a truck, and that only loses about 1 mpg around here. That turbo really sucks gas.
@OriginalRanger845 жыл бұрын
@@foghelmut they kind of have to go by what they get in a controlled environment though. Every manufacture has to test in those environments so it's not like they are doing it just to pad numbers. You cant get consistent data running random roads. Even running a hill can yield different results.

The auto locking rear is awesome. Had one on each of my last three trucks. Been great on road trips with the kids. I have been learning a lot about it through research and ownership. I like what I have seen. I have been assembling a thread on Overland Bound. Been using it as a data dump resource as I find things. Do a search for a thread called “2018 Chevy Colorado Z71” in the “vehicle build” section of the forum. I am posting up pics and thoughts as I go along. Only thing I have found annoying is the backup camera goes full bright when in reverse at night. Turns out it is the 18’s only... some of them. Free software update next Sat to fix it. It is a great truck. The engine bay has LOTs if room to turn wrenches compared to most trucks too. Especially anything with a turbo and mechanical driven fan.

Adam Kreuz One more thing... lol! I will never get a 4wd without the “Auto” mode like this truck has. Has almost no effect on fuel economy from what I can tell. And you can turn on dry pavement without binding the drivetrain. The Tcase is made by magna and the diffs are made by Dana. Same goes for this new ranger and Jeep Wranglers I believe. Any time my family travels from the willamette valley to central oregon (4-5k elevation gain) we get significantly lower fuel mileage than our typical "average" . We always get significantly better than our average on the return trip. Your assessment of MPG would be much more accurate if you did the return trip and averaged the two. Not making excuses for the truck, I would just like to see good data :) Thanks for the great reviews!

Then they'd sell more of them and hardly any F150's. The price they have on the Ranger it should have come with a V8. They lost my interest when they said 4 cylinder and automatic only.

Back in 1986, I bought a new Toyota pickup with the 22RTE turbo engine. I had the 5- speed manual transmission. I got 19 miles to the gallon. So this new technology , engine and transmission.only does 1.5 mpg better. Oh and I only paid $8700.00 for the new truck.

Yeah and the new Ranger only has about twice the hp and torque as that truck too.🙄

That fuel economy is not so impressive compared to a modern V6 that is already proven to last... Is that turbo even gonna hold up in sub-zero snowstorms all day?
@Intrepid175a5 жыл бұрын
Glad you manually calculated the fuel economy too. I've had three cars now with average fuel economy readouts. A Honda, a Toyota, and a Ford. All of them were optimistic compared to my calculations, just like your Ranger was, although I think our Ranger was a little better than my three. Great video all the way around.
@Owen_Klick5 жыл бұрын
They should have the 3.3 v6 naturally aspirated as a option.

why? the 2.3 ecoboost is a way better engine. the days where turbocharged engines were unreliable are long gone.
@steverhodes70364 жыл бұрын
I agree with Dragon800. Why? If they're going to put a V6 in it, make it the 2.7 EcoBoost.
@Trumplican4 жыл бұрын
@@steverhodes7036 theres a rumor they might put the 2.7 in the Ranger. I'd be pissed because I have a 2019. But by judging mine with the 2.3 a Ranger with the 2.7 would be friggin insane!
@steverhodes70364 жыл бұрын
@@Trumplican - Exactly! Performance wise, I've heard very few complaints about the 2.3's performance levels. From what I've heard of the 2.7 EcoBoost in the F150, it would be a screamer in the Ranger!
@Trumplican4 жыл бұрын
@@steverhodes7036 ya it would the 2.3 is already a screamer. 0-60 in 7.35 seconds i think which isn't much for a car but for a truck it's pretty damn quick. Plus they are tuned down big time you can get way more power out of them. It's the quickest midsize truck I think 2nd is the Chevy Colorado at like 7.93

Ranger needs say, 28-30 gallon tank. I’d love that. My 36 gallon F150 tank spoiled me.
@mojorisin73715 жыл бұрын
My gripes are no other engine option, hard plastics in a top of the line lariat at almost $50 grand, come on Ford! No different bed sizes, no bigger fuel tank options, no heated steering wheel nor cooled seats, again this is a almost $50 grand truck with a 4 cylinder, turbo or not still cheaper then a V6 or V8 to manufacture. So I think Ford arrogantly or cheaply decided to charge a little too much for what's offered, but it's in its 1st year so we'll see if the consumer demand is there and whether consumers will have the same complaints and if Ford will listen, just glad Ford didn't do what GM is doing for their Blazer roll out, what a POS that GM should be ashamed of, no creative thought what's so ever, maybe they'll come to their senses when they sell few if any...
@NukePooch15 жыл бұрын
I think you covered it all, except for the fact that it's a truck that was developed in 2011... otherwise, you said it all!

Great video! The Ranger seems like a legit contender in the mid-size truck competition. Not bad for a mid-cycle vehicle brought to N. America to test the sales market. Perhaps Ford will offer Trail Control on the FX4 package on the F150 in the future.

Great review I am so looking forward to getting one.I have had 2 Rangers including my current 98. Ford needs to include Dark Green and a real Red not that Chill Pepper Red. I want a Red truck not a want to be red. Love the channel.

Dissapointing mpgs for a 4 cyl and a tiny gas tank. My Colorado diesel averages 28mpgs and gets 32+ highway mpgs and holds 19 gallons
@thomasmontgomery91135 жыл бұрын
Are you considering it is a brand new truck that is not broken in yet, they were not driving conservatively on the highway per their own admission and they went off-roading in Moab? 21 mpg over 1100 miles with those parameters is amazing.
