I just bought a 2019 metris passenger van for my side business. Took the back row out, has a lot of room. If you want luxury in a van, go for toyota or Honda, but if u want commercial use while not feeling like a POS commercial van, this is great. I don’t store inventory in my van, so glass windows work. Also, glass windows in back rows DO NOT roll down. Which is a huge disappointment. Solid vehicle for being a van, and pretty exclusive as you see 100 siennas and odyssey’s before seeing a metris, let alone a passenger one.

As far as I know neither Honda nor Toyota are giving up on the minivan market.. So there will be stiff competition on the passenger side of their segment.. Oh and thanks for not showing us a single clip of the interior passenger areas.. Come on, are you just teasing us or did they prohibit you from filming the insides? We wanna see!

Test drive one of these, then go test a Honda/Chrysler or Toyota.... I just hauled 20 4x8 sheets of Rock in my 05 Odyssey... Metris is short on a LOT of Standard items.

I like that it's turbo and RWD. The Transit Connect and its competitors are more car-like, FWD with naturally aspirated four cylinders. And the bigger Transit van is more like a Sprinter, which I have driven and do like. The Metris really interests me as a mid-size.

You are right! Front wheel drive sucks, except maybe in small sedans. Even 4 wheel or all wheel drive systems based on rwd are better than fwd based ones. The handling dynamics of front engine, rear wheel drive is far superior. No serious quality car, truck, or van is front wheel drive.

Test drove one today. Horrible. Total failure. Here is the short view : The good : 1. It is large, but not huge. It is very easy to see out in every direction. Easy ingress wide opening doors, easy operating sliding doors. The back door was a fold-up door on a test vehicle which I hate but it was fine working as long as you watch your head. Trunk is decent with 3 rows up, wide and easy to get to due to the low floor level. 2. It looks ok on every angle, better on the front as the rear is a bit too utilitarian but not ugly from any angle. 3. Materials are commercial grade, durable easy to clean and still have a decent feel. Design is simple and body seems like a aerodynamic shape. 4. Steering and suspension was decent, ride was comfortable but not floaty 5. Transmission shifted nicely, only 6 spd but it was ok. Nothing spectacular but good and smooth shifting, no jerkyness or jumps even on quick 6th to 3rd downshifts. 6. The truck held its own at 80-85 miles per hour, no waving no shaking, no floating. The bad : 1. Horrible controls - small buttons, illogical placement of every single button. After 10 minutes none of could figure out a way to change the rear a/c settings. 2. The 2nd and 3rd row of seats don't fold. nothing. Not even the seat back. They are fix benches. Sure they are removable but that is it. They are heavy and bulky to remove and again - non folding. 3. Engine is noisy, gutless and vibrates like a diesel. I know it is small and turbo charged but this was once weak thing in there. It needs to grow in size. 2.5-2.7l at least. Fuel economy would be similar but this truck has no power to make it feel confident on a road. 4. There was a weird howl at 65-70 miles an hour which will make most people's head hurt. It might have been the cheap tires - some awkward Korean brand tires are the factory ones but could be from mirrors or the normal road noise. Either way it was a very disturbing resonance/vibration that I heard before in bad cars. 5. Radio and a/c placement is ok but the way they look is so 1990's and not the good ones. Old design, very old, like early cell phone style. Mirror switch is hard to operate, kept pushing buttons and nothing hapend until I literally pushed the button so hard it was almost painful. 6. Outside mirrors leave a huge blind spot. Their shape, and angle is horrible. I had to rely on turning my head and luckily the windows are huge and easy to see out. Mirrors are all small and useless. 7. Interior is just ok up front but the rear is horrible. One cup holder thingy per side which looks like a walmart 99 cent item, no pockets on the doors, no place to put anything in a back. Like a huge room with nothing in it but 2 bench. 8. Seats are vinyl which is ok but at 40+k usd, they could have used a better vinyl. Still that was not my problem. Seat bottom is narrow and pushes on your tights. I'm 5'11 and 174lbs and average build, so not obese and it felt narrow for me. I like tight seats, but this was painful after 20 minutes. The lumbar support is a nice feature. On the Matris it can be adjusted up/down in/out. But in a 30 minutes ride, I would not find one way when it was good. The seat back always felt weird and uncomfortable. 9. Steering wheel - the wheel is a plastic wheel, but good feel. The angle is where the trouble lays. It can only be adjusted up and down, no in/out. The seat is always too high and the wheel angle never feels comfortable. Just odd and weird, too much of a trucker like... again if it is not easy and immediately comfortable it will just get worse with more time behind the wheel. 10. Fuel economy was supposed to be 21-24mpg on average and in a short 30 minute ride we averaged 16. I did push it a little to see how it good (it does not) we also did a 10 minutes of constant 65mph highway ride. The truck never felt strong, just acceptable and any type of going needed a strong push on the pedal. No guts is the correct term here. 11. Transmission shifts up in a second the truck stops accelerating. It causes several up and downshifts which are smooth but still due to the whiny engine you can hear it. Not much feel but audible noises. overall - poor design interior, small randomly placed buttons and cheap looking rear section with no places to put items, a gutless engine, a constantly up-shifting transmission, absolutely no versatility on the seats, no storage places, no cubbies, no hidden storages, just acceptable exterior shape and design, so-so fuel economy and 40k+ price tag (our model was a modest model at $41,600 most upgraded ones at 45k) this is one bad Van. Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna are much better choices but I have to say even the Ford Transit Connect is better then this Van. Its a failure from the 3 pointed star and a huge one. Their full size Van's are great and priced reasonably. This one is expensive and very bad.

Very dumb move not to offer 4matic especially in the northern states. This was my next van until no all wheel drive option. This is the perfect size for what I need it for. I'm driving a Chevy express awd cargo van now and need the awd option for the winter. I now have 2 settle on a awd sienna which is not cargo van but it will have 2 do. Thanks mercedes..

"I Caught up with" What a joke..AKA.. I get paid by Mercedes. Might be worthwhile if it had a Diesel. EVERYONE else uses a V6, why would you want the hassle of a Turbo? Do yourself a favor... simply go test a Caravan, an Odyssey or Sienna and see how much better they are without the overengineering, yet MANY More Features as STANDARD!

The Metris? Never heard. This Van was sold in the European Market under the name V-Class and it's a premium van, the rival of the famous Volkswagen T6 Multivan oder Business Van here in Germany. Availabe in three different sizes, four different models, different engines and also available as a four wheel drive. Gasoline engines are not available. This US passenger version looks so cheap inside, like a delivery van. It's not the same car.

Seems like like it might make a good package hauler. Kinda puts me in mind of a guy at work. He's trying to get into the DJ business so he bought a van to haul his equipment in. Said with a Truck it would get rained on plus he'd have to take it in every night. I think their will be a market for it.Just not sure how big. On a side note I'm surprised at how much power these modern 4 bangers are putting out. I didn't have very good luck with 4 cylinders when I was younger but starting to think I may be alright with some of these newer ones.

I'm confused, I only know two sizes when it comes to vans; minivan and van. They're "mini" for a reason and now we're bring the words mid-size into this?! Idk anymore. So what's the one competitor, Mazda 5? That's a *real* minivan, it's compact. Kia Rondo is already gone too.

Desu Gun This van is a bit bigger than the current Dodge Caravan. It's bigger than the Ford Transit Connect, Ram Promaster City, and Nissan NV200. They are calling it "midsize" because it's bigger than those and smaller than the traditional full-size vans (Chevy Express, Ford Transit, etc).

I actually LOVE the OUTSIDE looks of this van. My only hesitation on perhaps purchasing one is the RWD feature and the interior quality. Oh and lets certainly not forget the lack of interior amenities and pizazz. Us folks in the Northeast need either FWD or better yet AWD so i'm not "sold" on this quite yet. Plus the "fit and finish" for a Mercedes is quite lacking in the passenger version. I mean c'mon Mercedes no wood trim accents or much chrome for that matter. The fabric looks almost like it was made of microfiber or something. And last but not least the starting prices is absolutely ridiculous given everything I just mentioned above. I'd rather put that kind of money out for a fully loaded AWD Toyota Sienna...!!! So listen up Mercedes if you think your going to win over buyers in the minivan segment with this people hauler. Well then you had better "up the ante" BIGTIME (interior wise) especially for your passenger version...(g)

I liked the idea of driving a Benz van at this reasonable price point. But it looks like a rounded minivan, meaning the interior space isn't square enough - that's a waste. And it might be still a bit too large to street park. This category is all about utility, guys!

In Europe this is called a Vito. I drove a cargo model around Germany and the Czech Republic late this summer. It had a high roof for cargo room and a diesel with a 6 speed transmission. Typical comfort and an all around nice vehicle. Love to see more diesels here in the US.

Better get an extended warranty service because maintenance and repairs are going to be just like any MBenz vehicle. The entry price sounds affordable but with options it will be priced on the mid 50s.

question to the uploder of this video. does the metris have the capability to carry heavy ladders on top of the van. like for contracting type of business. is it capable of supporting ladder racks above the van like American commercial vans. and if so can it carry a sizable load on the racks. please contact me back when you can
