I really wish I could Tig Weld. I would never stop fabricating parts for my Evo! Even if it wasn't the best looking I'd have a new manifold, dump pipes, straight pipes, y pipes, J pipes, weed pipes crack pipes... Ok well maybe not the last one but I'd be Fab happy for sure LoL I just wish I knew someone with a setup that would take the time to at least teach me the basics. Anyways, the dump pipe looked awesome. All ur Fabrications are fresh!

What size tube, thickness and grade stainless for the 44mm wastegates?
@turbocobra8 жыл бұрын
Nice work, also handy that your band saw has the offset blade angle, my ellis saw wouldn't allow those cuts you were able to make.
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
It wont handle larger diameter tubes. I think the biggest I can cut like that is 2 inch unless it is a super tight CLR.

You are right. Good reason for me to lobby the wife for a bigger one.

Do you do an external gate plumb back into the exhaust?

Great video, Thanks. I’m building a 63’ Mini Cooper pickup with a turbo charged B16 engine. I’m pretty sure I’m going to make a log type manifold. Are you or could you do a log type manifold? I have very little room in front of the engine. Thanks again for all the great videos. Charlie Spann near AustinTX.

Easy way to avoid many hours of exhaust flow modelling, but not allowed on the road in most places, and even some tracks rules are now making external dump pipes impractical (eg noise limits, or statements that exhaust must be behind rearmost door seal). Out of interest, did you opt for a different surface coating the rest of the exhaust manifold or is there still a paint\coating process to be done after the video?

Add a small (think motorcycle shorty) muffler to the dump pipe, and it's perfectly legal in NH.

Did you bend that piece of stainless yourself with your tube bender or you bought it prebended?
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
It is pre bent. My bender will not bend it that tight.

great info on your channel. What kind of band saw do you use. Im using a chop saw with stainless cutting blade its hard to cut 90s. I want a band saw now. Thanks

I hope you disconnected the battery when you welded on the car. Otherwise you send that voltage right through it. Also what purge setup are you running?
@patw52pb18 жыл бұрын
That is not always the case. It really depends on the placement of the ground lead in relation to the torch and the distance between the 2. Most modern vehicles are not vulnerable to damage from TIG welding. Think about it... what does removing the battery cable accomplish besides isolating the battery. The alternator, ECU/PCM and other electronic devices are still connected to the chassis and the wiring harness allowing backfeeding any voltage into the chassis, harness and any device.
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
What patw52pb1 said is correct. Isolating the battery will not protect anything. My purge is just a dual flow regulator.
@langsbr8 жыл бұрын
Awesome quick video - curious though - what was your total real time to build the dump tube?
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
langsbr About an hour and a half
@boostnhoe8 жыл бұрын
Great videos. But on a side note when you place the wastegate to dump into the atmosphere to close to the turbo compressor or within the engine bay the turbo ends up sucking in the wastegate hot gases and blows them back into the engine robbing HP. A better method is to have the wastegate dump back into the turbo exhaust side.
@jordanrodgerfilms8 жыл бұрын
im guessing you are new to car
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
It is virtually impossible for the turbo to intake hot exhaust gasses with this location of the dump. The wastegate wont open until the amount of boost to open it is reached which means the vehicle will be moving which will leave all the gasses behind. The wastegate would literally have to dump into the turbo inlet in order for any gasses to get back into the engine.

that external gate is useless. its facing the opposite direction to the flow of exhaust lol.
@TheFabricatorSeries8 жыл бұрын
That is actually a big misconception. The wastegate is just a mechanical valve. It doesn't matter where it is located in relation to flow.

I beleive the object is to relieve drive pressure or excess boost, Right?
