@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses2 ай бұрын
The truck does not run on diesel. The generator can recharge the batteries if needed, for example at the scene of a fire.
@08jk74x2 ай бұрын
@ yes it does. It has decent size diesel engine in it to power it completely if needed AKA charging the batteries. Some use it this way routinely. It’s an overpriced POS.
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses2 ай бұрын
@@08jk74x You don’t seem to understand how the technology works. The diesel generator can recharge the batteries, but it does not run the truck’s engine. It’s an option for them to use in the field if they have to, just like you’d refuel a conventional fire truck after several hours at a fire scene. I know many people simply hate this new technology because it’s scary to them or they don’t understand it…
@08jk74x2 ай бұрын
@ sounds like you are the one that drank too much of the kool aid and doesn’t understand. At 3 times the cost and 1/4 f the likely longevity it’s a tremendous waste of money for the taxpayers. Some operators of this exact model don’t plug it in and operate it 100% on the diesel, which yes, provides the electricity to run it.

One reason a lot of ppl in BC like EVs is the fact they truly are zero emissions (when driving) as 93% of the electrify in the province is hydroelectric, i.e.: no need to burn fossil fuels to power the grid that powers your EV. They’re still a four letter word for lots of people in BC though.

The RTX is not a true EV. It is a PHEV with a range extender. And in many departments including Vancouver, LA and Clark County (NV) it has proven very unreliable. I hope VFD has better luck with it.
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses2 ай бұрын
It’s an EV. It runs on nothing but electricity. Just because it has a backup generator that can recharge the batteries on scene doesn’t make it anything else. It’s been quite reliable from what I’ve seen. The one in Vancouver has been put to good use at many working fires. I’ve had the chance to speak to VFRS and VFD firefighters about it and they all like it.
@RabbahDocRona2 ай бұрын
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses pure EVs do not have range extenders. FULL STOP. When you spoke to Vancouver, did they tell you how their's was out of service for months with a water leak? Same story with Los Angeles?
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses2 ай бұрын
@@RabbahDocRona It’s a fire truck that is used in unpredictable emergency situations, so it’s not gonna be exactly the same as your average Tesla that you take to the grocery store. It’s purpose-built, and a range extender makes perfect sense for those times when the battery may run out in the field. The water tank has nothing to do with the truck’s performance as an electronic vehicle. The tanks are not even Rosenbauer products, and they failed because of a combination of user-error and a manufacturers defect that has since been fixed. Again, nothing to do with it being an EV, but unfortunately people try to look for every opportunity to drag the technology into the dirt just because it’s new.
@RabbahDocRona2 ай бұрын
@TGGGlobalEmergencyResponses I'm all for EVs when they make sense. In this application it doesn't make sense. The economics of it just don't work, and because the engine is smaller than a standard type I it can't hold as much load out as a standard type I either, yet costs substantially more. If it was like the Pierce, a standard type I that has an electric prime mover, I wouldn't hate it so much.
