A lot of people have been sleeping on the 6k FF. I still prefer it to the Pyxis because of the screen. But the fact that BM can come so close to a RED camera is astonishing. Kudos to them. Thanks for the video!

I completely agree, I slept on it until the sale, and after using it the past few months. If I had picked it up earlier, I may not have purchased another Komodo again after selling my Stormtrooper version a year ago.

For the last five years, I've been surprised to find that I actually prefer the colors out of the Blackmagic cameras to the more expensive Reds. I've heard many say that BMD is closer to the "Arri Look," and while I'm definitely not one of those "Alexa or bust" people, I do appreciate the more natural look Arri has managed straight out of camera. Of course, both of these cameras look lovely and both have much more pleasing colors than I'm used to seeing from Sony.

I'm a simple man.....I see Star Trek, ESPECIALLY Axanar footage, I'm slapping the mess out of the like button lmfao. Thanks for this test Geoff, I was actually starting to debate this very situation in my head once the komodo got its price slashed. Having already shot a documentary on the Ursa 4.6k, I'm already used to the blackmagic OS and colors, and really like the new features and upgrades in the pyxis, so thats probably going to be the route I go in the very near future. Thanks for the comparison test!🖖

Great video, Geoff. I just wanted to say, as you mentioned your Smallrig cage for the CC6K FF isn't compatible with the battery extension pack... After I got my 6K FF, I ended up getting the Tilta cage as it was the only one available at the time, and it comes with an adapter piece to utilize the battery pack, just in case you care. I will say that the Tilta'a cage baseplate system is incredibly limiting, but it is a solid beast.

Great video. Lot's of information when comparing Red vs. BM. Sorry, that sounded kind of funny. Red vs. Black magic 6k. I believe that the Red looked a little sharper with better dynamic range than the Black Magic. Almost to close to call, but noticeable. You can't go wrong with Red. As always, keep up the good work and keep'em flying.... From the little Red planet. ( Parden the Red pun. 🤣 ) 👽👽👽👽👽

Great presentation! The star trek footage looks so good!! Those images are practically identical. Both are great tools. I love using the BMFF for my narrative needs. Based on some side by side pyxis/ BMff footage I've seen on other channels the image off of the bmff seems to be wider and taller than the pyxis using the same focal length. I thought it was a weird since they both have the sensor. That would be an interesting thing to look into.

there were elements of each camera I prefered. I liked the rich red light in the background of the Kamodo on the slider shot, but the skintones of the Blackmagic in all the shots. Anyone claiming more dynamic range on this footage doesn't know what dynamic range is, because nothing in this was high dynamic range enough to test that aspect of the cameras just like none of the moments in this were fast enough to have the global shutter be much of an advantage either. I think either camera can easily handle most common shooting scenarios like what was seen in this video, and as for the color differences I think those could also be matched better with a little more post work. If I were after my first cinema camera I think that one of the Blackmagics makes a lot of sense because they also come with a full version of DaVinci Resolve and cost roughly 1/2-2/3 the price of a Kamodo. One other potential advantage of the Pyxis over the Cinema camera 6k is optics. Both the Pyxis and Kamodo look like cinema cameras to clients, and those kind of optics give clients a placebo of confidence.

Great video with insightful observations! I just picked up 2 Komodos and so far so good. I wanted a proper b cam to the Komodo and I considered Nikon or the 6kFF. The 6kFF locking me into braw was a factor of why I didn’t pick it.

interesting comparison. I shoot on boat Sony and Canon myself and also owned a Blackmagic 4K with the booster was a great camera. Unbelievable, in your comparison, the skin color is far better on the Blackmagic than your Komodo. I am surprised because I see someone using RED as "A" camera and a Canon as "B". Canon has beautiful colors, better in my eyes than Sony. But almost everything can be processed in grade, so it looks nearly the same. What a time to be alive.

What would be next is to demonstrate how you can easily shift the colors in post to match exactly. The Pyxis with the new monitor from Blackmagic will easily give you the viewing and control you need. The wireless connection via Blackmagic app will also work well as demonstrated by others. Yes if you have the RED, no need to get rid of it, but if you wanted it as an A and B camera together rather than a "versus" you now know you can do it. If you're not using Resolve, WHY? just kidding. If you're not using Resolve then clearly R3D is the way to go. Blackmagic will catch up in no time. Either way it's good to know you can use either one.

Komodo X is a lot better than OG Komodo. Colors are like V Raptor as well.
@ReachFilmsАй бұрын
I’ve shot on Komodo X, and with Komodo at that. Better? Yeah it’s better, a lot better? Nah not really but what makes it “better” besides the extra half stop of dynamic range is there is just so much better IO that it makes the camera faster and easier to use on set.
@anthonyrock5039Ай бұрын
@@ReachFilmsa lot of people who do not use or own the OG or x Komodo talk about massive image quality difference but it is realllly unlikely that anyone would be able to tell the difference between them if the scenes shot were exposed and lit properly and a Cooke/master prime/ any cine lens is used in production. Not once have I seen or heard anyone complain about shots and scenes I have seen OG Komodo’s capturing in Hollywood. Maybe KZbinrs content creators (who are the only people I have ever heard talk about this) know better than larger production. The x was put out to address users who are used to photography bodies and on board audio, v mount . It is nice for those who don’t have superior external audio and who need slow motion. They are not the same in color, DR and in rendering skin tones. You can also see the difference with youtube compression in full effect. The BM is really good for the price but it is not in the same league as r3d raw. The other raws that are really good are from the sony venice and Arri. Again, this is not blackmagic hate, BRAW is the best for it's price but fails in comparison to the other higher end Raws.

Great video. Man, I wanted to love the Komodo. But I hate the image. I’ve owned two different Komodo and have sold them because they frustrated me so much. The image is weird sometimes and gives a strobe-like kind of motion cadence because of the global shutter. And it has a weird effect that it does to the skin tone where it actually makes it look worse. Komodo accentuates skin blemishes. The only time the Komodo is good is if you cut it as an action cam With Alexa or the raptor. Other than that man, it’s just an ugly image in my opinion. I’d rather have the FX3 or any other camera over the Komodo.

Side not I use my FX30 much more than Komodo due to ease of use... Which is why the next video is a comparison of the Komodo VS the FX30, using 10 bit from FX30 and RAW from FX30
