As someone who left the game due to Pendulums, excessive text, disinterest in archetypes that didn't finish my existing 23-32(?)+ decks, and rarely having open schedule overlaps with friends to actually play, as well as being very off-put by the Link Monsters being a prerequisite to run my Synchro decks as built, I very much like the light of this change. Yu-gi-oh Duel Links has recently gotten me back into the game, and I still have my whole collection still, though I will probably not buy packs at all I would probably look into singles of cards that are for my old decks. That is if the availability thing ever stopped being an issue.

Well, not everything is back to how it was. Pendulum summons are still restricted to extra monster zones and linked zones, as well as pendulum zones are still merged with magic and trap zones. But I'm fine with it, being able to basically special summon 5 monsters in one turn with no cost was pretty over powered so they needed to limit the amount of monsters you can pendulum summon. Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz monsters were fine and should be left as is.

Nutshell: Fusion, Synchro, Xyz freed from Link Restrictions. If any of these 3 are summoned, you can choose to put in either Main Monster Zone or Extra Monster Zone. Links and Pendulum: Must abide by all rules set up from Master Rule 4 for them.

Pendulum monsters summoned face up from the Extra deck can only go to the Extra Monster Zone of zones Link Monsters point to. Once Master Rule 5 happened, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz are no longer restricted and can be summoned to either the Extra Monster zone or Main Monster zone without need of a Link Monster.

The names of the Zones aren't really representative of which Deck you can summon Monsters from, it's that the Main Monster Zones are your main Zones and the Extra Monster Zones are just that, *extra* Zones. I mean, even before this revision, it was still possible to get Extra Deck Monsters onto your Main Monster Zones, you just needed to either use Link Monsters or summon them from an area that wasn't the Extra Deck (like the Graveyard).

You must mean the normal spell: Ground collapse. It lets you select two monster zones to seal. The selected zones cannot be used. I run it in my time lord deck, and its still reaaaaly useful especially when stacked, even with links and stuff being a thing

I didn't really have any problem with the introduction of Link monsters themselves. My issue was how they put a cap on decks that use other extra monster types. I think is incredibly fair. Unlike Fusion, Synchro, and XYZ, Pendulum monsters don’t have a cost to resummon them from the extra deck As long as you have the needed pendulums. And since Penedulum don’t really need extra deck space, they can spam Link monsters as well since Pendulums are easy to get on the field. The only disadvantage is that Pendulums used for Link summons go to the graveyard, but that is remedied by using cards that put cards from your graveyard back into your hand, deck, or field. This is probably the best result for everyone without invalidating any other playstyle.

as for cards that are both pendulum and another extra deck type, it would probably depend on how you summon it, so if you synchro summon it its summoned as it it were a synchro monster but if it were to be destroyed and sent to the extra deck to resummon it using the pendulum zones it would be counted as a pendulum monster.

Great point on the under utilization of pendulum monsters. I believe Konami ideally wants all of the cards to be used and, allow players to use cards of their choice. This would allow creativity and fresh ideas to flourish. Still I believe Konami must allow the players to figure it out instead of creating new rules to check eveything.

As if Link weren’t broken already. Original idea to slow down the game and make it a requirement to summons other extra deck boss monster got thrown out of the window when Link started to became Synchro Ver.2 and they pretty much runs by themself. They extra deck spam summon by themselves plus additional effects when conditions are meet with their point arrows.

The way to fix the game is simple and Konami does not want to do it just limit special summoning and re brand Extra deck summoning here how to fix it you get one Normal summon Two special Summons from hand and graveyard so if you special summon from you're hand then use a monster reborn you can no longer special summon on you're turn but if one of those cards were a tuner you can Extra Deck summon a synchro or just xyz then you can't extra deck summon anymore. Ritual summon can still be it's own thing so if you special summon twice for a ritual summon you can ritual summon.

@@TheJabics Let me emphasize that I meant SS two times per turn, not necessarily just 2 monsters. A 2 special summon limit a turn isnt going to change the game too much for the vast majority of decks operating within reason.

@@ekayasa13 it was, before links pendulum was compleatly busted cause it was like the equivalent of a spammable soul charge and everything else except pendulums became pretty much useless

@@ekayasa13 The problem was it also utterly fucked all previous Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz decks unless they could also force in Link Monsters. Luckily this mostly fixes that problem.

Link Monsters should have just been made as extenders, rather than powerful monsters to begin with. Ie. Introduce other extra deck summoning methods in the anime along side them during season 1.

I haven’t played Yu-Gi-Oh! since tengu plant synchro was around. Imagine my surprise and confusion when I found out about link summoning. Then finding out how to link summon in the first video you posted , then having to go back to normal/ link summoning. 🤣 Thanks for explaining haha.
