Stuart Zender, known for his basslines in Jamiroquai, has an Ashdown signature Pedal called the "Funk Face". We couldn't resist and fitted a whole drumset into one of the #TGU18 rooms to be able to show the pedal in a band context.

People keep saying “they’ve changed their view on Zender” or “he’s a bellend” and I get where they’re coming from but in his defence he does say he’s nervous in this video, and some people are like that when they’re nervous. They just keep talking shit. I wouldn’t write off someone as talented as him based off one video, no mater how cringe inducing or Dadaist the whole affair appears

I thought the same thing. People in this comment section are getting all pissy about this interview, but really I think Stu is just a massive troll and is trying to perpetuate the whole “bassists are weirdos” stereotype - he’s exhibited a sort of playful self-awareness of that in the past. He’s one of those guys where if you get him, you get him; if you don’t, you don’t. That’s what I love about him.

Anyone who takes Zender’s playing serious in this video needs a good sit down and realise they need to stop taking life at face value…..and chill. The lad is messing about. If he took himself serious he would show-off what he could actually do. Some people just don’t feel the need to show-off at every opportunity, because they don’t feel the need too.

I don't think I've seen Zender play, actually 'play' like he used to. Since leaving Jamiroquai, and the 'Travelling without moving' era ... Just goofy interviews ... It's either not him (twist) or he's lost his mojo down the end of a doobie? I always thought it way Jay K.... But maybe there really are two sides to a story. Two to tango and all that. He is/ was one of my favourite players... Mark Ronson had a go... Kinda went a bit Syd Barrett.

I think, Stu has a too childish gimme-credit mentality to grasp reality, since jamiroquai age. (Literally he has been exaggerating his importance BY TALK to make his fans believe he is a genius instead of JK and Toby) so he has a difficulty to release an album on himself being escaped by co-workers

Then I meet Stuart Zender (Bass) @ a private function in Elephant Castle spoke to him for a few minutes one of my question was if you must pick one album witch one would that be his response was “Weather Report Back Market 1976” Because of Jay Kay greediness Stuart Zender left the band and to me that was the end of Jamiroquai . .

I love Jamiroquai, Stuart Zender makes me crazy in the first 3 lp (then he gave them up etc etc ..) and in live .. Great groove and surely left its mark in the golden age of acid jazz and is a name to remember .. But there is a tendency to overestimate it a little too much, especially considering what is around today (guys next door who would make many "professionals" turn pale) .. Zender in my opinion, which I love for what he did in the 90s, today he lives on income from what he has done in the past.

@@joshuagarden7304 To say he became a mediocre bass player is not true and unfair. Yes, he is working for many many many years on his solo album and I’m wondering when it finally will come out, but he still got his old juice and funk. Just listen to his features on Incognito or DeAngelo tracks. The thing is: Jamiroquai was THE band, it is his home and where he could make his music. His biggest mistake was to leave Jamiroquai and I believe he still regrets it to his day, even if he would never admit it, but another fact is, since he, Simon Katz and Toby left the band, Jamiroquai was never the same. They muted into a commercial pop funk band. Stu cut his wings off and since then he tries to fly again.

@@Mazinga well I think that there might be a lot of shit Stu's been through in he's personal life that quite nobody knows. I personnally liked this video and it was an experience to just watch him go and do he's thing. Also I think that only an experienced musician would at least try to understand Stuart's style of playing. Further more if he's really working on a "solo record" it is more than understandable that it might take it's time. After all he's probably a very demanding musician as well as a demanding boss if it comes to a collaboration work. Sattuuhan sitä.
