A modern recording with high fidelity would be marvelous. The piano portion is utterly outstanding.

Mi bémol is E-flat, for you non-French speakers out there. The orchestra is the Orchestre de la RTBF (Belgian Radio and Television). The work is his Op. 9.

Lovely : different atmospheres linked all together..

I hear first movement: Liszt; second movement: American ragtime; third movement: Debussy; fourth movement: Wagner, and tying it all together with using the piano to make a lot of sound, extended tonality throughout, and syncopation.

Vivid concerto, but I misses a little bit the usual melodious romantic themes.

A little different. A demon to play, but if a wrong note played you would never know.

@@collectionCB3Maybe Hyperion will do it in their Romantic Piano Concerto series. The few pieces I've heard from Theo are more interesting than what I've heard from Eugene.

I wonder why there is no interest in playing these pieces. I know, their authors are virtually unknown. I know, much of their work don't bring anything new to the table and are rather flat and boring and even copycats of the tendecies of their times. But there are also singular gems like this concerto that deserve to be rediscovered in our day and age. Hopefully virtuosos of today and tomorrow will be encouraged to take that leap. It is possible to get out from your usual Chopin, Liszt or Rachmaninov once in a while.

Do you not believe in listing the name of the Orchestra that has made such a vital contribution to this performance? That's very dismissive - not to say rude. I notice this omission from many of your other posts...

There could be copyrights problems if I mention the names of the orchestras (it happened several times), in addition to the problem of the Labels! The censure on KZbin is mainly based on the names of the orchestras, especially in Canada, in Switzerland, etc. That's the reason why several KZbinrs don't even indicate the name of the conductors neither the name of the soloists. Many KZbin channels have unfortunately been destroyed because of copyrights infringements. Musically, Corentin Boissier (collectionCB, collectionCB2 and collectionCB3, collectionCB4 & collectionCB5)

@@collectionCB5 Much as I enjoy listening to unusual repertoire here and elsewhere, a copyright infringement means that you are stealing income from the soloist / orchestra / conductor etc whom you are not naming. Is that a good excuse for uploading copyright works? You just don't get it, do you? According to your (specious) argument, one could say that many burglars' careers have unfortunately been destroyed because of Law infringements. Do you not understand that laws against burglary are there to protect people? So why do you assume that laws against copyright infringement are any different?

Get off your high horse. Think for a minute. How do they earn any more money if he DOESN'T post it here? If this recording was ever commercially available, I'm sure it isn't now. Buying a used copy, if one exists, doesn't put a penny into the performers' or conposers' account. From the sound of the recording, I'd say most of the performers are no longer alive. If thanks to this recording ONE person buys a T. Ysaye CD that IS commercially available, it's a net gain for the performers' and composers' descendants. Thank you, CB2, for keeping this music alive.
