Vitezslav Novak (5-12-1870 - 18-7-1949) a Tsjech composer who wrote one pianoconcerto in 1895. A very fine work!

Metej - BOTH are CORRECT: Czech AND Tsjech. Just depends on which transliteration system you use to Anglicize. For example, Tchaikovsky/Tschkowski/Chaikovsky or Rachmaninoff/Rakhmaninov. Some of us are melancholic for the German renderings of times past......

This is an excellent concerto: adventurous, sumptuous symphonic harmonies that follow the piano towards new tonal vistas; stands easily side by side with works by Dvorak or Janecek. Thank you for sharing this unjustly neglected work.

It sounds like a sort of 'alternate-universe' Dvorak. Reminds me a lot of Dvorak's early works - the first couple symphonies, or the piano concerto - with some of the awkwardly-long sections cut out. Obviously not exactly the same, and very nice in its own right!

I would say thtat this is the Skoumal recording, although cut off before the applause. There is another recording, not on YT as far as I'm aware, with Peter Wallfisch with the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jiri Starek. That has a slower opening, and I think this one is the better of the two.
@unclespeller65685 жыл бұрын
The Skoumal recording on KZbin available here: (Mvt.1) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX3GZJdua7KbqKM ... sounds like a monaural recording to me, but this (annoyingly unidentified upload) is a stereophonic recording, so these two are apparently not the same recording.

A very good concerto by Suk, a follower of Dvorak who uses a traditional language. Te Czch more 'progressist' voices are Janacek and Martinu. Suk is underrated, he wrote some splendid scores.
@pohlpiano6 жыл бұрын
Novák, not Suk (both were Dvořák's students and friendly rivals, though)
@kovarovaivana7 жыл бұрын
I think it's a recording from 1982 / piano: František Rauch, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor: Josef Hrnčíř. It's definitely not Skoumal

Yes, it was either composed in or published (in some form) in 1895, I gather.

There is a recording on KZbin conducted by Jonathan Nott with a Skoumal as the pianist; I don't know if that's the same recording as this. (Ah. Composed 1895; published in 1949 by Melantrich of Prague. There's also a violin concerto which may not have yet been published in full score, not sure...)

I think this is a recording of famous Czech pianist František Rauch. Adam Skoumal´s recording is about 1-2 minut quicklier.

You may be correct. However, with "quicklier", you've managed to make 2 mistakes at 1 swipe - a rare feat!

Having heated some other pieces by Novak this seems to be an early piece as the style does not reflect that of his other more mature pieces that exhibit a more personal and unique flavour, however this is not to take anything away from the value and strength of this work.

Why is there no information given with regards to the pianist, the orchestra and the conductor ?? With this sort of sloppy uploads - save yourself and us the trouble - desist from anymore uploads of this kind !
@robingordon-powell67365 жыл бұрын
I agree , this seems rude to both performers and the KZbin audience - but I suspect it's actually because this upload is a direct copyright infringement and leaving any identifying information off is to try and escape repercussions. Stealing copyright is worse than just rude.
