I am getting ready to rebuild my HD TH400 for my k2500 6.2 truck (1985), and I am trying to figure out how to do a good and thorough cleaning of the transmission and parts. What should I use to clean the internal parts (such as the drums and so on)? Also, I am upgrading to the 34 element sprag. Do I need a new drum for that spray or will mine work alright for it? Thank you, Larry
@mountainsgarage2 жыл бұрын
You most likely will need a round back drum, or just buy a 4L80E drum with the 34 element sprag already attached. Tractor Supply, or whatever you might have for that kind of store, has 5 gallon buckets of parts washer fluid. Works good. And a few cans of brake cleaner for final cleaning. The case you can scrape then clean with a pressure washer, car wash, or in the solvent after you scrub the internal parts.

Thanks! In the TH400 Playlist I have a video “4L80E Drum and Extra Clutches” that covers some of that. Not the best videos but it has it’s moments! I will be shooting a better video.

Awesome videos 👍 Is there a way to stop 1st gear in the T-400 from shifting out on its own? Thanks

Yes lots of info online, go to crankshaftcoalition.com and it explains the few simple mods.

Hi Mate, Love your Videos. And attention to details. I have a 400 and always leak from the Pump bolts. No matter what has been done to them still weap. Any help from you will be appreciated.
@mountainsgarage3 жыл бұрын
Hello! Certainly not normal. Did the bolts originally have an o ring or the flat seal? I use a 5/16 x 1.5 flange bolt with the flat seals, no sealer and they never leak. Always with a new pump o ring and gasket. Sounds like you have tried everything, hope there is an answer!
@XODOHTRO3 жыл бұрын
@@mountainsgarage Hi Shawn I know it's not normal but definitely leaking the Transmission came from Jegs and I had nothing but issues with it.

How much money do you get for this type of build?

Hey I have a 76 drag truck I am building and will be looking for a solid TH400 probably with a brake. Never dynod it but its a 500 inch BBC large solid roller Brodix head 14.0:1 engine. Might be 800 ish hp. Do you have a website where you price your builds or only by phone? I enjoy your videos keep them coming. 👍

All the transmissions I have sold or done for people so far have been local to Maine. They all run around $2000 depending on options.

Great video..I’m the guy that called u last week about welding the hole in the drum because my bit broke..remember??lol I got it out. Are u a fan of the sonnax rear no walk bushing?ive noticed they have a kit where u can run the bushing and also the thrust washer.what’s ur take on it sir..thanks for ur time
@mountainsgarage3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried the sonnax kit with the bushing, bearing and shims. I had bought a no walk bushing but figured out it would not work with the usual TH350 pump thrust bearing. I will try buying the kit. I have good luck with the stock bushing installed slightly inboard to center the bearing, installed with a little Loctite Cylindrical Part Bonding liquid. Glad you saved the drum! I was thinking about you while I was drilling the bleed hole today!
