Thai Airways Onboard TG794 From Bangkok To Los Angeles Pt6 Landing

It's a little after 8:00 pm. We're on an Airbus A345 TG flight #794 from Bangkok to Los Angeles seated in coach class. We've just completed a nearly 15-hour flight over the North Pacific ocean. Our plane is set up for a final approach into Los Angeles International Airport. The entertainment system is tuned to video mode to catch a view from the nosegear camera as the airliner settles onto runway 24 Right.

I loved the flight to and from bangkok, and as always love thai airways, best food and best preparation (somthing most airlines dont care about) definatly worth every penny.

While I can't remember the exact depart or arrival time, I do remember that we left BKK around 8-9 am and got to LAX around 5-6 pm the previous day. Flight duration was just a little over 14 hours because of a tailwind according to the captain. Normal flight time from the states to BKK is 15-16 hours one of the longest flights in the world.

@dylanhelmer I'm a bit familiar with that kind of information but it's been awhile since I've studied VORs. I was lucky to have a portside seat to be able to catch those landmarks because the approach over downtown LA was definitely one heck of a sight. @DieselFrdChikn The SADDE6 is an arrival coming from the north or the pacific ocean coming into LAX. the Arrival takes you either from AVE (Avenol transition) then to DERBB, Cross DERBB at 11,000 feet, then descend to 9,000 feet to cross REYES fix, then FIM VORTAC, then SYMON crossed at 5,000 feet, BAYST 5,000, JAVSI 5,000. After JAVSI you turn right almost always vectored to the ILS approach for runways 25's or 24's. It's actually a really sweet approach if you look at the chart.

@DieselFrdChikn If you aren't familiar with what i just explained those names i gave you DERBB, JAVSI etc. are fix's in the FMS (Flight management System) it's the pilots computer that has the whole route setup, these fixes have them cross at certain altitudes and speeds, speed is usually pilots discretion. Whats cool about the arrival is they get to see downtown LA, and the SADDE6 arrival is actually the STADIUM VISUAL into LAX. Look the charts up.

@bookieboy Seatback IFE's got the lastest movie releases available in addition to some classic, popular & international movies. They also have a decent selection of regular cable type shows from news to the Discovery & History channel family etc...Though I never listened, there are music channels offered as well as various video games. Satellite info & landing cam video were my favorite IFE options. The food & service were excellent. Hope you have a good experience too...

Yes. Since every seat had an entertainment system, the video camera mode was available for everyone on board. This was an Airbus A345. Don't know about the smaller airliners though...

@Einhander49 I'm with you. L.A. looks pretty damn cool at that time of the day. I got lucky this time. Definitely the best part of a long-haul flight are the sights when you know you're finally coming in to land.

@airlinepilotdude It was! All credit the goes to the captain who brought us down during that time of the day and my trusty Canon S80.. . Seat # was 36 but it sucked. It was right in between both windows so you'd have to lean far forward or recline the seatback to see out either one.

It always riles me when airlines play piped music in the background. If they're trying to get passengers to relax, it has the complete opposite effect on me and winds me up instead grrrrrrrrrrrrr....... Nice video though :)

@Xircal What made this background tune really annoying during this landing was that it was a super-long variation of Thai Airway's "Smooth as silk" advertising promotional campaign song. I've been on TG flights that played old (50s-60s?) Thai music during landings but this time I guess the captain or head attendant was in a bad mood and felt the need to torture us with this selection instead. Thanks for the props!

@dylanhelmer Oh, I see, found out from Airliners. n** that it's a series of approach vectors into KLAX. I'm just a general aviation pilot from Georgia. The biggest aircraft I've ever flown was a 152. I've looked over sectionals for the Los Angeles airspace before and they seem really intimidating. Can't imagine what the IFR approach procedures entail in that airspace.

@SharonHaber66 Come on, EVERYONE does that style of taping. To me, it is BORING. Since most airliners don't have one, I like to see the nosegear camera! I enjoy the point of view as a passenger within the cabin, NOT as a camera hanging outside the airplane. That is my opinion. If it doesn't make for good film, I personally don't care...Thanks for watching anyways.

@DieselFrdChikn The worst example of piped music I've experienced so far was on Singapore Airlines preparing for landing in Singapore Changi airport. They played Jazz the whole time from the beginning of the descent which as you probably know takes place some 35 mins before landing and I hate Jazz. I stopped flying with them altogether because of that.

In order make a good film - camera should be fixed on the wing in wide angle without any movement. the travel back and forth between the window and the screen - didn't do any good. this is my opinion anyway
