They might pronounced some of the food wrong but, they did just fine for the greeting. Sawatdee is also correct. 'Kha' and 'Krub' were only added for the sake of politeness ... I'm Thai and I approved. And by the way สวัสดี is pronounced "Sawatdee" not "Sawadee"

I am a Thai-American living in Thailand, and I've lived in the US and have tried Thai food from many restaurants in many states. Honestly as far as presentation goes, this looks very authentic, and I would actually saw that this is the first time Ive seen Tom Yum served like that in the USA. Great job guys, nailed it! The drinks menu is more Americanized in presentation, but those are actual Thai beverages made with the Hales-Blueboy brand syrup. I can say that from what Ive seen, it looks like a lot of the ingredients are local, but thats just the beauty of it, because the crab papaya salad looks way more delicious than the crabs that they use here (looks more meaty). The ONLY THING that was INAUTHENTIC was using lemons, because Thai people use lime. Similar citrus. GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!!

If you are a guy you say "Sawat dee khrab" If you are a girl you say "Sawat dee ka" which both mean "Hi" in Thai but you don't have to change to any gender of whom you greeting to just stick with your gender and If you want to talk in polite way just add "Khrab" (if you're a boy) or "Ka" (if you're a girl) at the end of every sentence.

At 5:59...your explanation is absolutely WRONG! If you are a male greeter, you always say KHRAB at the end to make it more formal and to show respect. Female greeter says KHA after SAWADEE to make it formal and to show respect. KHRAB or KHA is added to the greeting when you're addressing a stranger or people of higher status e.g. parents, older adults, teachers..etc.

Hi Fung bros from Bangkok! Been watching ur channel and love that finally you make video about Thai food ^^ There are so many delicious Thai dishes, but I think u might want to try "pad kra paw" (spicy stir fired meat with basil) if u have ur new thai food episode. It is a common dish ate almost every meal. It's even called "menu sin kin" in Thai which means when u cant think of anything to order,u'll order "pad kra paw". It goes great with rice and not over cooked fried egg. One note, kha is a sentence ending for female and krub is for male. The ending is to make the sentence politer, same like yo~ in korean. So men say sawas dee krub to anyone not saying ka except that man is being over polite to a pretty lady or trying to pleas a little girl.

Yes, cause in the 19th century Thailand decided to drastically westernize their country. They did that so that the French and the British would trade with them instead on colonizing them. So along the way, they picked up forks and it became part of Thai culture.

I'm Thai and I love when foreigners are trying hard on the pronunciation, even though they're not perfect!! They are many more menus you should try. There's northern food, which kinda hard to find in US, southern, north-eastern food, they style seafood, noodles, rice plates, etc.. I'm living in SF and I've tried many Thai places here and in LA, even though they are good but never get better than having them in Thailand. You guys should go visit Thailand! The food is way way better there.

Those look yummy! I confirm that almost all of the dishes look the same as a traditional one. (But I don't know about the taste. Lol.) For sweet, I recommend 'Kaw neaw mamuang'. It's a dish containing sticky rices with coconut milk and sweet thai mango (especially 'Nam dok mai' breed). You'll get salty-creamy taste from the coconut milk, sweet-juicy from a mango and a gummy consistency from the sticky rices. It's a very interesting combination. And I also recommend every thai sweets that have sticky rice with it. So good! Btw, you may be confuse about the greeting way in Thailand. It's separate by the gender of a speaker ,not a listener. But this's still a really good video about thai food. Nice job! :)

Dudes, you are sooooo wrong about the greetings. Women say "sawasdee ka" to everyone, men say "sawasdee krab" to everyone. "ka" for women and "krab" for men are ending words used in every sentences to signify politeness. But if you hear women say "krab", it means she is talking to a little boy, and the same goes to men using "ka" to a little girl. Second, I notice some carrots on the side in your Padthai dish. That is authentic. You can throw any thai dish with carrot in it out the window because we don't originally use carrot in anything. If you come to thailand and see some carrot in some street dishes, just keep in mind that they just add more "colours" to it. Same thing goes to papaya salad (som tam). For Padthai, on the side we'd originally put Chinese chives, bean sprouts, extra ground peanut, and young banana flower. If you have time, don't forget to try "massaman beef curry". It is named one of the most delicious dishes in the world. Don't miss!! 😎

+HalfThaiKorean1990 it's true. in Thai culture, we mainly use chopsticks for noodles. I'm Thai myself and when I was a kid, I used chopsticks to eat rice for fun once and my mom jokingly asked "why are you using chopstick for rice? are you Chinese?" lol all my relatives and Thai friends only use chopsticks for noodles also.

I think you're doing good job on ordering the dishes. They're vary and cover a lot of basic 'must try' dishes. Thumb up! from what I see, I think the colour and ingredient should be richer; for example, the green curry should be greener and puffy catfish look like it blend in flour in it which it should not. So safe to say they may adapt or save some ingredients which cause less flavour. Thai dishes have very rich and strong taste. Hope you could come to Thailand and try them someday. ^^

(A little Thai language lesson) Guys should never say "Ka" haha doesn't matter what gender you are meeting, females say "Ka" and males say "Krab". Krab/Ka also means yes or agreeing with something.

ThePeeBottle I don't know what kind of argument you guys have since you said " 'east asia' again?' " But anyway, to interfere in your conversation a little bit, I don't know what's so wrong with Myung Seob's comment. There was nothing wrong with it. I know that Thais don't use chopsticks on a regualr basis like how Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese do. They only use it for noodles maybe - but that's it. Spoons and forks are their eating utensils. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chopsticks
@ThePeeBottle

DdoubleV DVV yeah, but the thai still do use chopsticks nonetheless. so if the fung bros are using chopsticks in a thai restaurant, it's not because of who they are, but it's because they're in a thai restaurant. thais use chopsticks to eat some of their food the fung bros didn't use chopsticks when they ate mexican food, now did they? but myung seob made this out be "true (east) asians" and their chopsticks, whatever that means. he is obsessed with "east asia" this and that. if you've seen some of his comments, you'll understand what i mean.

türkçe öğren "only for eating noodles they use it" -so in other words, they DO use chopsticks! unless you're saying no thai eats noodles, or that thai noodle dishes aren't really thai. that's basically like saying the food in this video isn't authentic thai food. so is it or is it not?

It wasn't exactly wrong. You can just say SAWASDEE if you're not sure about how to say in the correct way. But if you end the greeting sentences with KRAB (for guys) or KHA (for girls), it could make those sentences more polite. We Thai always use krab and kha when we talk to elders and it isn't wrong to just say only SAWASDEE when you talk to your pals but it isn't good to talk to elders without krab/kha either. P.S. I thought this vid focused on the tastes of Thai foods but some viewers are not! BTW I absolutely sure the original must be better so hope you guys come here and taste the original ones!

I've been traveling to Thailand twice a year since 2002 and the nearest to authentic thai food I've found in the USA (in my area) is a franchise named Thai Express. Honest it's really good Thai food. It's the only Thai restaurant I will go to now. But the only place to really eat authentic Thai food is in Thailand. That's because it's different depending which area your in. The north is different then the south and so on. So pack your bags and travel to the LOS. Then you can really enjoy great Thai food the way it's meant to be eaten.
