As I write this, I am only half way through the video, and I think this could be one of the best Thai interviews that I have seen! Everything is possible here but some things are rare. For example, 27 years ago my wife and I eloped and told our parents after the fact, so no Sin Sot. She was 23 and I was 43. I had already been living here for 20 years, spoke the language and had good life in Bangkok. We have successfully cobbled together an interesting hybrid life and we are very happy with but is not completely Thai or Farang. The point is, each couple is unique and if you are truly in love you can write your own script with a little knowledge, understanding and good communication skills.

Having resided in Thailand for 14 years and having formed friendships with many individuals in relationships with Thai partners, I've reached a conclusion. Do Thai women prefer foreigners over Thais? As a whole, the answer is NO. Given the choice between a Thai or foreign partner of equal status, attractiveness, education, and wealth, they would almost always opt for the Thai. From my encounters with thousands of Thai women dating foreign men, a common pattern emerges. Most of these women are: Dark-skinned from Isaan Have short, stubby noses Often single mothers Have a high number of past relationships or have been involved in the sex industry at some point. While this isn't representative of everyone, it's the case for the majority. As you can see, these individuals rank lower in the Thai dating pool. High-quality Thai men typically prefer light-skinned partners with more defined features, who are educated and come from respectable families far removed from the sex industry. Women in this lower category of the dating pool may only attract a motorbike taxi driver or someone of similar social status or wealth. They observe that foreigners do not discriminate based on skin color when seeking a partner, and many overlook their background or past involvement in the sex industry. Therefore, they target foreigners because Thai men want nothing to do with them.

My opinion on it is this- What you said may have been true in the past but it is certainly not like that now - at least in a general sense. Many Thai women successful or not, white skin or dark skin, prefer foreigners over Thai men. And there are also Thai women who prefer Thai men over foreigners for one reason or another. I agree that Thai men (and asian men in general) have a certain "ideal" of what is most attractive, and that is different than what typical westerners like. I would also say that many foreign men would prefer a different "look" overall. So, all things being equal, do Thai women prefer foreigners? I think it depends on a lot of factors, but it's not as simple as the "leftovers" going to the foreigners.

You make some good points and I agree there has been a shift recently, but still overall Thai women would prefer to date a Thai due to cultural and language reasons. This is the same for most nationalities; generally, people date within their own culture. It is still true that the majority of Thai women who are actively searching for a Farang partner are single moms soured by a previous bad Thai relationship or involved in the sex industry. I do get your point that not everyone is like this but just statistically its the majority(I have no data, just my experience after 12 years here, living in multiple provinces). I also agree that there are some Thais who want a foreign partner not because they have access to higher value men in the foreign dating pool but because of their interest in international/Western culture or because they want a partner with more of a feminist/progressive view on relationships and don't want a more traditional male-led Traditional gender-role relationship. This is especially true for women with high-status jobs; in this case, they don't want the traditional gender-role type relationship that Thai men generally prefer.@@OneNightinBangkok_

I think it's hard to build a relationship without speaking Thai or Issan, even though the other person is an English speaker. Language shapes the way we are thinking. Cultural differences, however exciting, are an important part of any relationship. I fell in love with this country a long time ago. Speaking Thai was a real game changer. I'm always surprised to see so many foreigners not making the effort to speak the language....

i look at it like, If a person pays for something they appreciate it more, if they decide to play with the womans heart and just get her pregnant and leave, they have already paid the child support and financial support ahead of time since there is no child support etc in Thailand, it is also less likely that you get married and then want to divorce the next month if you paid a hefty amount of money to get married.

To the host's friend Dan who's a newbie in Thailand, he definitely has no idea what he's talking about. What "security deposit" is he talking about ?? What about the guy's "security deposit" in return ?? I've known lots of good normal ladies whom are not married because of their greedy parents demand of crazy amount of "sin-sod" although their daughter loves his man very much, and it happens to both Thai men and foreigners alike. And their daughters choose to be single until their parents demise, and then they will look for a partner to look after each other as they already age obvoiusly. All these greeds are created by a vicious cycle which, had to be start eroding in these times. Pity to those ladies who truly loves their future partners, but unable to satisfy their parents thirst of money and face.

It's not hard to meet a girl, it's near impossible. Women saying, "just come a talk to us, we are friendly", is not going to work with most people today, we aren't used to it anymore. Plus, it's very intimidating walking up to a group of Ladies, when they are talking Thai with each other, and you don't understand them. It's not easy meeting 'normal' women.
