THAILAND $10 Rooms With $1000 Views - MAE HONG SON

I visit Mae Hong Son Thailand, particularly the vicinity of Ban Ja Bo. Ban Ja Bo is an upcoming adventure travel destination known to Thai people but relatively unknown to foreign tourists. It's cheap, literally $10 rooms with views worth $1000.
Ban JA Bo is just as easily reached from Pai via the spectacular road that forms the backbone of the famous “Mae Hong Son Loop”
I attempt to explore "Coffin Cave", locally known as "Tham Phi Man" which involves a challenging ascent of a cliff face on the outskirts of Ban Ja Bo, it turned into quite an adventure.

Nice gaff Karl... stunning place... I could sit there in a cloud of smoke for a week! Those stairs want working on - they're a bit PRECARIOUS... the whole area looks the nuts though! It reminds me of getting stuck on that monks' path with you and the Mancunian mountain goat up near Nong Kai!

Spectacular views. In New York state there are so many abandoned stone walls and your treks in remote areas with staircases remind me of that. It was tremendous work to build the walls and the staircases and they hoped future generations would benefit. But the trails and stairs need constant maintenance to be safe. Anyway the hiking footage and drone shots again were something probably never to be seen on other channels - many thanks. Your contribution to future generations Karl !! I'm finally in Pattaya now. Mountainous terrains obstruct economy growth, but it does offer a scenic view. Back to hundreds years ago, all castle and township are located at top of the mountain to better situated for defending. We came from a long way.

Yes, Mae Hong Son and Loei are both stunning Provinces with an abundance of mountains. Perhaps the mountains are a built more concentrated in MHS though.

Likely my favorite province in all of Thailand and it has been over a decade since I have been there. After watching this it reminded why I need to go back as soon as possible. I am guessing this village can be reached by songthaew from Mae Hong Son city. Seems like I barely get a days rest at home before I am wandering again.

I went in a hire car but I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some local transportation/songthaew. You could even hop off at the junction with the road to Ban JA Bo and walk or hitch the rest. Yes MHS is definitely one of the more interesting Provinces

Cheers Dan, yes it was still an adventure even if we never reached the cave. As regards the drone…the footage looks fine and detailed on the video but when I was piloting the drone I was looking at the screen of a small iPhone that was struggling to cut through the sunlight so I couldn’t see the stairway at all. Also you lose all sense of distance looking at the screen so don’t want to get too close. It would probably be better if I used an IPad instead of the iPhone but it’s all extra weight lol. Hope you are well
