It's called a kettle 😊 We use them to boil water for coffee, tea, instant noodles and soup etc. I mainly use mine to boil water for washing dishes like your mum. Not many places in Thailand have hot water plumbed into kitchen sink.

Hi Chuck, have you seen the Fluentalk T1 mini translator for your mum. I've seen several videos about them and they seem a lot easier than Google translate to use, just one button to press. Thanks for vid. 😁

Yes does not work well with ambient sound. Google far superior, easy to use for auto conversation, translate, and can point and identify any words written for translate to English. Best thing is app is free and we always have it in our hands anyway. They offered me a promotion deal, it will be something in the junk drawer in a matter of a short time. Not interested.

I run out of gas when walking. Noticed in front of the Chicken Stand your Mom was double stepping. The cane prevents this by creating a Tripod - Good side (Leg) is hand for the cane. Cane forward bad leg forward. Cane Back good leg Back with cane. Ends the double stepping - walking stick should provide same results if she feels supported. Walking with cane since 1991 (32years) Also have a 4 wheel walker - useless on steps.

On the Thai aging thing. I can see the logic is saying, as in Maa Dtim's case 76 as that is her on her 76th year. When you are born, although you have not yet reached 1 year it is still your first year 🤨, and after your 1st year you are starting your 2nd year. 🙂

That birthday age thing is the same in Taiwan, when you are born you are one, so that can be a point of confusion. (pretty common)
