I've had a totally different experience with store clerks in thailand. They're always quick to let me know that items that I am purchasing is buy one get one free. A few times they actually physically left the counter to go back to get the item for me. I have to say that customer service in Thailand is really outstanding.

I lived in Chiang Mai 18 months and miss the culture, currently back in the US for 4 months. I loved Thailand but did feel somewhat disconnected and isolated. But to be honest I feel the same in the US as well. I’ll be going back to SEA in June, not sure where maybe Vietnam or Cambodia. For me I like the freedom and the lifestyle that SEA has to offer. Being a lonesome traveler and a man without a woman is key to my happiness.

@@BiggWorldCinema Ah, Great Britain, the land of royal rigidity and the perennially damp tea, where the sun shines so seldom that even the clouds occasionally seem to grow bored. A place where people are so enamored with tradition that they have forgotten what it means to truly live. The British, proud of their stiff upper lip and their eccentric rituals, could indeed pen a tome on the charm of yesteryear and the obstinance of the present. Their fondness for royal etiquette and queueing is admirable, if simultaneously a tad perplexing, and their incessant muttering about the weather borders on obsession. British cuisine, a culinary tragedy of epic proportions. Fish and chips, a gastronomic delight as inspiring as a soggy Sunday in Blackpool, and haggis, a dish so bold that even the Scots occasionally hesitate to partake. And then there are their roads, a labyrinth of roundabouts and potholes that can drive even the most seasoned driver to madness. Yet, in their unwavering conviction that they are the masters of traffic, they often overlook the fact that their land is as thrilling as a cup of lukewarm milk. But let us not be too harsh. Great Britain has its moments. Their literature may no longer change the world, but their ability to spin tales that touch the soul is indeed commendable. Overall, however, Great Britain remains a nation ensconced in the fog of its own nostalgia. A land so preoccupied with celebrating its glorious past that it has forgotten what it means to truly inhabit the present.

As always, if you want to live in another country, it is your job to learn the local language and not the other way around. I moved to Spain and learn Spanish and in 2-3 years I will get an apartment in Hua Hin, Thailand and I will learn Thai. If you just go there for a couple of months, no need to learn the language, but if your plan is to stay, learn and do not complain;-)
@gmm5550
@gmm5550 9 ай бұрын
You cant even compare spanish with thai. Thai is a tone language with mean that the same word have different meaning on your tone ..like chinese japanese etc..i still say "mountain newspaper" sometimes when i mean "white rice".. all four things there have the same word but different tone
@gmm5550
@gmm5550 9 ай бұрын
In Thai, every syllable is pronounced in one of five tones: low, mid, high, falling, or rising. The tone must be spoken correctly for the intended meaning of a word to be understood. Since every word has a particular mandatory tone

Great perspective...Respect...Let me add. First, your accent is not American so my perspective is from whats going to the USA. We are in a retirement crisis, the working poor and senior homelessness is rising at the highest rate in history. The income gape is the widest it has ever been. From violent crime to homeless encampments, drug zombie no go zones and fetynal crisis taking hundred of thousands of lives every years. The average American live in poverty and struggle to afford rent, energy, insurances and food in 2024. So if your at 50% poverty side (Not the 50% of Americans (1 out of 2) that are living better, Thailand and other destinations look attractive especially for retirees getting slammed by inflation. Moving overseas, even to Thailand can be a wise part of anyones exit plan. But like I would not live in San Francisco or any other major US country due to cost, I would stay away from Bangkok, Siagon, and other major citites. As far as not being accepted. its the same in the west. The USA is a sald bowl, a make of different cultures that other than work life and social nicities, most cultures do not allow others to get into their inner circle. So the smiles in the UK, USA, Canada etc are just as insincere. Maybe because I am retireed social worker, counsoler and world travelor, I notice these things a little more and can be fair and balanced. Living overseas is not for everyone. I never enjoyed the Western culture but enjoy the buddhist central cultures (most of my close friends in California have been Asian (Philipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean etc). Just always felt more at home in SEA and my SEA friends. Moving overseas retired is also not for everyone. Most people in general live and dies within a 12 mile radious according to statistics. Most people get trenched in to their comunity, have ties, family and networks. However, some welcome the Journey and venture outward, make new friends and develop new networks. Ive been in Thailand for 1 year then went to visit some friends in the DR (but I will return). As long as a have a good church to go and a good gym Im ok. Ive always made friends very easily whereever I have gone. My family has aged out so I do miss them. But I will see them when I knock on heavens door. There is a 99% chance I will settle in SEA. Maybe Thailand, maybe Vietnam or Indnesia. But then agian as a social worker, my practice has always been transcultural and embracing culture and language. Lastly do not look for undying love anywhere, not in Thailand, or the West or anywhere else, statistics show you will likely get REKT!!!! Look for something real not a sexual fantasy but a long term stable companionship and take your time. There are good woman but there getting harder to find (or tears will fall and your wallet will end up empty). Might as well stay in the west for that. LOL :) Thank you for sharing your video. I just left Thailand after 2 weeks. I can't wait to get back. A lot of what you say is true, but I think I'm going to have a great time when I move there. I don't think I could ever learn Thai fluently either, but I'm pretty sure that I could learn well enough to make myself known. Learning a language of a country that you want to live in should be part of the fun. And as for all Thai women being cutthroat I don't think you can say or anybody is anything. Sure there's that type but there's also some really good people there. Got to get out of the bars for that though right? Either way the world's your oyster bro. If you don't like Thailand go to the Philippines or vietnam. Me I can't wait to get back to Thailand.

Last year, I lived in the Jomtien area for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week without buying any LDs and barfines. I did not eat any western food due to way more expensive and been eating Thai food in the market. In my early 50's now, I was planning to retire but I changed my mind in the very last second due to the fact that it's all westernized nowadays and the prices are doubled and tripled so I came back to work in CA. Better be off to Manila next time.

I lived in Thailand 8 years and did fight hard to learn thai, an i do speak pretty good have i heard(a little slow but pretty clear pronunciation). But often thais often switch to Isaan dialect in things then they want private conversations and makes' you a outsider, because in the end you are only a "farang" a non Thai

I went to lunch with my Chinese boss and his Chinese friend and we all spoke English well but sometimes they spoke Chinese leaving me out of the loop for no apparent reason. I worked in the medical field for almost 40 years with many filipinas. They would do the same thing. The Americans found it very irritating to work next to them when they were speaking it. I don't think they did it to offend anyone, just a way to have their own conversations in their own language. I'm retiring to Thailand in June. I've been struggling to learn even some simple sentences and words. What they say about teaching an old dog new tricks is true. It's not impossible. Just difficult. I hope to take a more formal immersive class once I'm there. I'll be there in rainy season so I might as well do something indoors Interesting. No immigrant in any country is fully accepted into the culture. I'm a second generation American. I know my grandparents found it very difficult to integrate into American culture. I'm pretty sure I'll find the same amount of difficulties in Thailand. I think there are ways to offset the downsides though.

Thailand is a hierarchical society. You have no chance to break into that system. At the other end is the prostitution which has permeated the DNA of the country. Massage and handsome man and bar fines. That model now extends to the whole of SE Asia. Thailand has also become quite expensive compared to Cambodia, Philippines etc. Also, I sense there is a growing dislike of foreigners imo. Though I agree that the spiritual native of Thais is still very appealing. I prefer the Philippines for communication of course. The food isn't great but you have a chance of connecting, which I feel is out of reach with most Thai people.

Thailand is a country that steals the culture from neighbouring counties. They are such a cultural threat towards Myanmar, Laos and specially cambodia. They need to do something that's unique For once. Did you know that ancient stone temples in Thailand like hin phimai and phnom rung are all khmer temples. They have nothing but Khmer heritage. The latest studies have shown that Thai people are just migrants from china who settled in the khmer empire and then they broke away from the Khmer empire and stole our land.

Thailand is more interesting and more to do the Phillipines is more boring 💤 food is very average and that's being nice Phillipines is too Americanised look at how the KZbinrs in the Phillipines act lots of USA expats fighting like entitled babies look at dramaguete. You tubers in Thailand aren't playing these silly games and your close to all other countries like cambodia Laos Vietnam etc you can just get a bus or train to another country while the Phillipines is a island you have to fly to get to other countries 😂 !

I'm no expert, I've been researching for a month. One thing, finding a woman amongst young bar girls and independents, you'll get what you deserve from what I see.

The Philippines is now what Thailand used to be. Thailand used to heavily cater to foreigners and sexpats. Now that Thailand has raised its standard of living for the locals, they no longer bother to cater to foreigners, sexpats, like they used to. So the Thai girls who used to marry older foreigners for a secure life, no longer need to. You’re starting to see this in the Philippines now, many foreigners are starting to notice a shift in how the local girl see foreigners. Get it while it’s hot, soon Filipinas won’t even give you the time of day or a courteous smile.

@@BiggWorldCinema It's the truth! Seems like there's been a dramatic shift in the mindset of Filipinas since the pandemic. Social media has enabled them to do things they couldn't even imagine 10 years ago. On top of that, foreigners have been flooding the Philippines and many girls have several foreign LDR SIMPS who're sending money for nothing. Many of the girls don't need to go after a wesIterner who shows up in the Philippines. It has definitely become much harder for an expat of any age to find a good Filipina partner.

Generic footage and a rambling discourse. Where did you exercise outdoors around Ari area? You could have taken BTS to Mo Chit and worked out in Chatuchak Park of Rot Fai Park - the greenery helps and the air isn't as filthy.

I haven't yet visited Thailand. The natural beauty and the 21st century infrastructure make it appear to be a nice place to visit or slow travel to for a bit. However, the video shows endless fat, old men day drinking and cruising for women. That does NOT appeal to me in the least.

Easy enough to avoid. Just stay away from the few open air brothels like Pattaya, parts of Phuket and Bangkok
