Ubon Racithanni is such a wonderful place. I visited a few years ago and I will be returning again in just a few months. I have been to Wat Pah Nanachat it is also an amazing place. One thing that you didn't mention about it is that the monks there are westerners. The training and instruction the monks receive is in English.

I lived in Ubon Ratchathani for 6 months back in 1980. I was volunteering at a Laotian Refugee Camp on the edge of the city. I was there for the Candle Festival - still have photos. I loved the people in the camp and the city. I particularly loved the folk music using the Khaen. The city seems to have changed a great deal which is to be expected. Thanks for the video.

@@TheCountryCollectors that instrument I=s quite something when played by a skilled musician. I recall some real toe tapping music. I actually was in Southeast Asia in 1977 & 1978 as well. I lived in Balikpapan, Indonesia on the island of Borneo. I taught ESL in a mission school and was housed with the mission pilot. I got to go deep into the rainforest to a Dayak village where they had a primitive runway and do some exploring. Sadly a lot of the rainforest is destroyed but there are still some pristine places. Perhaps someday you’ll get to explore there as well.

This reminds me of my first time in Isaan Province, the first city I visited was Ubon Ratchathani. It was amazing to watch from the sky as the planes attempted to land at Ubon Airport. The Moon River was full of beautiful water. (I went there after Visakha Day, maybe 1 month later) Wat Pa NanaChat is awesome and maybe you missed Wat Nong Pa Pong, the headquarters of Wat Pa NanaChat. There is also peace. (Wat Pa = Forest monk) I love Ubon people. They are kind and helpful. There are many old local friends that I have.
