I started peeing blood on my last day of my holiday in Pattaya without pain fortunately. It did stop by the time I got back to the U.K but decided I should get checked out by my doctor anyway just in case it was an STD or infection perhaps. The doctor immediately referred me straight to hospital without even seeing me . They did an MRI followed by the camera up my old chap ( Cystoscopy). The result is that I have been receiving treatment for bladder cancer for the past 6 months and it continues. The moral of the story is guys if this happens to you get checked immediately. I was lucky they got it quite early .It could have been very different had I chose to ignore it as I could have easily done.

Peter another great list of stories. I was really interested in the medical story. On my last trip to Pattaya, I was ill and thought it was the street food. Five days later I was home in Canada and had my gallbladder surgically removed. So good advice on researching your medical insurance. Also, the rule of thumb when in Thailand: "You dip the stick, you pay for the oil"

Story Three: wow, that is a departure from the usual stories we all know and love. Listened to it with my eyes squeezed tight shut and made my feet sweat! Urrgh.🥵 Admiration for you PH, having to sit and edit that story!😂 It's never pleasant becoming ill when overseas. Medical care may be expensive at certain locations in Thailand, but I'm told it is world-class. I touch wood that I'm I good shape at 56.

I live in thailand also. I got a very bad urine infection in december last year. Peeing constantly which i tried to shrug off thinking it was nothing then the pain came like the story. To cut a long story short i had e coli in my bladder that went into my prostate and was on antibiotics for 3 to 4 months. It was the worst thing i have ever had to be honest. I still dont know where i got it from. Swimming?. Shower. Food. No idea. If it had been sexual it would have been much better to treat but that was not the cause. I am now on edge to do anything incase it happens again. Maybe a bit paranoid i think. Im in my late 40s. I ended up going back to uk and got a camera cystoscopy and they said i have prostatitis from a urine infection. They said to me it probably was from swimming in a dirty pool or thai food that wasnt cooked right and ended up in my bladder. Just be careful over here as everything is out to get us in many ways. First sign of any infections get some antibiotics.

Back in the mid-80s, the jet ski scam involved the operators drilling a 2" hole in the bottom of the jet ski, and rolling up some corrugated cardboard to plug the hole. You take the jet ski out, the ocean water dissolves the cardboard plug, and the jet ski sinks, leaving you liable for the replacement cost. The operators then go out, retrieve the jet ski, wash it off with fresh water, re-plug the hole, and rent it out again.

Peter, I’m always enjoying your show, good memories of Thailand. You mentioned that you had knee and foot pain for no real reason, it sounds like sciatic nerve pain, I catch a few bouts of it a year. The back doesn’t always hurt, but I definitely feel it in either the knee or foot. Just a guess, massage usually helps, I fight it with an inversion table. I will write you my Thailand tale soon.

(I have 2 sisters who are nurses in the UK) Cost was under 3,000 baht. Phetchabun town, Phetchabun province. Like you I am retired here coming up to 2 years. Lived and worked here 2000 to 2004. Married the 1st Thai lady I dated 29 Feb 2000, still together, 2 children both in the UK. Consider my self very lucky to have retired early, 56, had to wait until the youngest was settled in his 1st year in Uni.

Awesome narrating my friend. Also just a thought on the jet skis, Last november when I stayed in Pattaya at the SerenHotel I noticed that they have signs posted at the checking and in the elevators.. Warning guests do not go on the beach and get jet skis. If you want jet skis, talk to your receptionist at the hotel and they will accommodate you. I would think that this would be something that all hotels on the beach road do.

I got a urinal infection after eating my first ''Thai spicy'' meal. I was shocked how easy it is to get antibiotic in Thailand - you just go straight to the pharmacy, explain your situation and they will try to help you immediately, all that at an affordable price. Where I come from (Québec/Canada) if you want antibiotic, you need a prescription from a doctor but if you want them NOW, you have to go see a private doctor and pay like 200$ for a 15 minutes visit OR wait like 18-24h at the hospital (because your case is not deemed urgent) but it's not gonna cost you a penny (almost like we dont pay taxes for this sh*t). Anyway, you listen to the second story and just notice how easy, fast and affordable it was to get served in the Thai hospital/pharmacy, something like that would never happen back in Canada.

Hi jetben. Just read your story regarding a urine infection from eating thai spicy food. I got a terrible e coli urine infection in my bladder december in thailand. @JetBen555

@@maljef2026 Did you eat any street food ?! I noticed that sometime the chicken on stick are not cooked very well in Thailand. When someone get e-coli it's usually because they ate some bad chicken. Anyway, to be honest, I personally got my infection right after I ate a very spicy meal at Hilary 2 on Sukhumvit Soi4, so I'm just assuming that was the cause. After that, I also got the flu a couple time while I was there but my GF made me take some kind of charcoal powder and it worked like a charm. Sorry to hear that you got very ill.

Yes CT scan. Actually I do think the CT scan was indicated because if he had a kidney stone causing obstruction along the urinary tract, this is information you would want to have within a day. An infected kidney stone is very serious. Ultimately, most likely what he had was what we call haemorrhagic cystitis. A bladder infection so severe it caused bleeding that cleared with the antibiotic.

@@ThailandBound Thats actually really cheap. Especially on such a short notice. The guy was probably lucky to have this issue in Thailand. If he would have had it in the UK or something he would just have been put on a waiting list for days if not weeks. And in the US... well.. There it would have been $1000 for just a band aid and a couple of pills. Same happened to me in India with a herniated disc. Just walked in to a private hospital, got a consultation straight away. MRI appointment for the next day and I could just simply mail those results to my insurance company. All I had to do was front the $400 or so... GL with that anywhere else...
