Thalys Pontes, aged 15 to 18, competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu worldwide as a blue belt

Thalys Pontes, a young talent from Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, is making a name for himself in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began his journey at the age of 12, demonstrating a natural talent and passion for the sport.
By 15, Thalys started to excel in national championships throughout the state of São Paulo. His technical skills and aggressive mindset were evident in his matches as a yellow, orange, and green belt. In 2015, before leaving Ribeirão Preto to compete across Brazil, Master Aélcio Silva, a respected figure in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, promoted Thalys to a blue belt. As he tied the belt around Thalys' waist, Master Silva whispered words of encouragement, stating, "You will be a world champion if you get there. And I believe you can do it, Muleque Zilka."
With the support of his mother, Luciana, Thalys was determined to achieve greatness in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and become an IBJJF World Champion. His journey from a young white belt in Ipiranga, Ribeirao Preto to the top blue belt in the history of IBJJF ranking in 2018 is a testament to his grit, belief, and faith.
