Vikram is actually better. Because sometimes kamal let's his irl mannerism influence his acting. Thangalaan is a movie that tells the story of an oppressed section of society. Pa. Ranjit dared to call out the bigots of the so-called Caste supremacists for manipulating history and Buddhist culture and for trying to destroy Buddhism from India systematically. In the movie, the oldest child of Thangalaan is named ASHOK, referencing how ASHOKA brought back Buddhism. You will find stories about how the Pandavas, Rama, or Krishna lived in this forest or rested on that rock. In contrast, any trace of Buddhist worship or the presence of Bhikkus (Buddhist monks) has been given a Brahminical makeover. It was not a coincidence that Buddhism and the Dalit cultural identity got Vedicised. There is a context to it which Pa Ranjith has woven into Thangalaan very intricately. Over time, the story of a Naga tribal-Dalit woman leader whose blood turned into gold was twisted, and became the story of the blood of a deer, shot by Rama’s arrow, turning into gold. This is an example of how Brahminism captured cultural power along with political, economic, and social authority. A film like Thangalaan, then, is an attempt to reclaim cultural history and identity.

The reason they didn't have subtitle up north is because they are planning to directly release in Hindi. They found it hard to get theatres with so many original hindi releases, so decided to release on a later date, like how Kantara in Hindi was released after 3 or 4 weeks of the original release

So so so so SOOOOO glad and relieved to have heard this review. It's not released where I live. Since the teaser, it felt like THE opportunity for Vikram to finally bring his boundless, awesome talent and commitment and presence to something worthwhile. Really really hope it spells out a proper win (both box office and critics and awards) for him. God, if ever there was an actor who's paid his dues and then some. He tries SO BLOODY HARD to choose things that will allow him to do new things and grow as an artist. In the past this has often come at the cost of quiality of screenplay direction, and as a result, commercial success. But I have never ever read a review, even of the worst of his films, that said Vikram didn't do well. He is always the Thangalaan, carrying the whole things on his mighty shoulders as much as he can. I know my comment sounds like fake-hype fanboy comment. But it's really not that. I'm astounded by his talent and presence, and the fact that through everything, he has stayed totally untouched by any kind of cynicism or bitterness or fear. He just keeps doing his thing. Giving his all to each and every performance. On top of that, from interviews etc, it really seems like he's quite grounded and warm as a person. Always wanting to see the best in people, always appreciative of everyone that's trying to do something good and/ or new. Not many people can manage to keep that innocence towards art alive inside them at the age of 58! He's truly a wonder! Really really hope he gets the recognition and applause he so deeply deserves!

I just went to the theatres with no expectations where Vikram always leaves us to disappointment when he tries to make body transformation for his movies,but man after coming out of the theatres the movie was running around my entire head ,every aspects of the movie were fantabulous (the cinematography,music,acting of each and every character,the concept itself) ....I really thank you guys for reviewing this movie where Tamil people are lacking to appreciate this masterpiece
