@@troycambo I certainly wouldn’t mind another visit with Ling’s family. They are such good hosts, they should open a bed and breakfast for channel viewers that chose to visit Vietnam. I think it would be a money maker for them! If you get a chance to visit Hang again, could you let us know in advance? I think a lot of people would like to help her. Maybe if you posted some video clips from your last visit, we could round up a little more help for her.

Very entertaining and informative video Troy. Was undecided about living in Vietnam or Taiwan and chose Taiwan. Currently in Australia waiting for visa. Thanks for sharing.

It's true about the South vs North beliefs. I'm in Australia and my mum will still talk crap about the northerners til this day, and tell me to be careful of them

English should be spoken by so many countries not because us English speaking people want it but it’s so helpful for anyone worldwide. So many people speak English. I have tried to learn French a little at school, tried a little Vietnamese. I believe kids should learn early as it’s easier and it’s a bonus in life.

@@troycambo Chinese is spoken less over the world than English. Is there more Chinese speaking people in Vietnam or more English speakers. The girl could easily communicate in English after just one year learning. That’s good. I understand what you mean about teachers of language my French teacher only taught me how to say blue jumper nothing to help me in France lol.
@davidmoss25762 жыл бұрын
This is only true for the time being, but as the West declines the usage of English will too. A lot of Vietnamese learned French during colonial rule as well, and it is as useful as Spanish in Vietnam today. If I had young children I would definitely put them in Mandarin school from a young age.

English is the principal language of globalization and by extension globalism (which is the main export of the U.S. empire). Just giving you some food for thought without going on a tangent.

You will feel colder if the humidity is high. Hanoi and many parts of the north have high humidity in Winter. The high moisture of the air will conduct/drain heat away from you even having a coat or jacket on. Water/water vapor has the highest heat capacitance. It's kind of like having a semi-wet jacket on. So it is not uncommon for Europeans or Russians (even with coat on) to be surprised how cold they are in northern Vietnam during Winter. For indoor, electric heaters are cheap. A small portable electric fan heater can warm the whole room.

Troy, my friend. I haven't watched your video's in a long time. I just decided to watch one. Glad I did. A couple of years ago, I was physically assaulted in the city where I used to live. In the States. I moved to the country. Best decision I could have made for myself. Just wanted to share that personal anecdote with everyone. This was a fascinating video, as it zooms out, and is very general. Sometimes, I wonder where you located geographically, and I am left wondering. I like this video because you do great camera shooting, and are great at speaking, and voicing your thoughts, which I love to hear. Great collaboration. You have a knack for these things, you know. It's got Troy's stench all over it! That's a good thing. Would love to come to Vietnam, man. I would have to plan it. No problem, man. See you there!

My family in Nha Trang and Saigon don't like people in the North because of the war and their supposed Chinese influences. The north-south resentment still is there. I do prefer the food in the south. I got fat living in HCM for only a couple months. Then I went to Cambodia during the occupation and felt self conscious because I was really fater than anyone else even though I'm really skinny. I like the train from HCM to Nha Trang. A sleeper is only a few bucks. Like $12us as I remember. Nowadays I take a plane for that trip. $75us or so round trip.

If I may, I can talk a bit about why SOME southerners hate the north. A lot of South Vietnam soldiers and supporters were sent to "re-education" camps after the Vietnam war and they got beaten the sht out of them in there. My friend's dad was one of them and he refused to even step foot back in Vietnam anymore. Whenever we talked about potentially visit the north, my friend would chewed them out and won't even bother entertaining the idea of ever visiting. Granted the communists back then and the northerners today may be completely different in term of ideology, but to the people who are scarred from the war, the north is an embodiment of ideology they fought and suffered against. On the other hand, Thanh Hoa pique my interest because that's where my grandparents and ancestors came from, but I never actually take that step to visit yet.

@@TimeManInJail Perhaps he would like to live in a country where up is up and down is down, where black is black and white is white. He maybe tired of living in a world where everything is upside down and inside out. People living in nations like Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, etc. don’t live in the realm of the insane, they live in reality no matter how hard life is. “Expatting” or working in Vietnam or Taiwan may be the answer for many westerners who have “issues” with the places they live, not necessarily behavioral or personal issues.
