Can I ask a question about 'Wish you a merry christmas'?I know I can say 'I wish you a merry christmas'or 'Wishing you a merry christmas'.But how about 'Wish you a merry christmas'? Is it grammatically correct,or does it sound natural?
@SimpleEnglishVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hello Laker. If we're wishing someone a merry Christmas, the natural way to to it is to use the verb 'have'. So we'll say 'Have a Merry Christmas', much like we say 'Have a nice day' or 'Have fun!' Have a great day!
@lakerwang32516 жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying me! But I do want to know if 'Wish you a merry christmas' is grammatically correct as a sentence.You know,I'm a Chinese English learner.In my country,some teachers think it's correct,and another ones think wrong.I'm confused.So I'm expecting your answer.Thanks.
@SimpleEnglishVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hi Laker. The problem with 'Wish you a merry Christmas' is it lacks a subject. You could say 'We wish you a merry Christmas', like in the song, but normally we say 'Have a merry Christmas'.
@lakerwang32516 жыл бұрын
So We can not leave out the subject in 'We wish you a merry Christmas'. I get it.Thanks very much.,and I wish you success in your work!

Could you explain the difference between like best and like most?
@SimpleEnglishVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hi Roseangela. There are situations where I could you either phrase. For example, if Jay tells me he likes Stenven Spielberg movies I could ask 'Which one do you like best?' or 'Which one do you like most?" and it would mean the same thing. I think 'like best' might be more common though.

what if i wanna say it to someone else? lets say my friend is alisa. Thanks Alisa or thank Alisa? You said thanks god is like speaking directly to the god. So i suppose thats gonna be thanks Alisa? Also, If im not speaking to her directly but i feel pleased then its gonna be thank Alisa? what if i speak directly to her but I feel pleased? than what is it gonna be?
@SimpleEnglishVideos6 жыл бұрын
Hi Popkachin. Yes, if you're talking to your friend Alisa and you feel pleased, you'll say 'Thanks Alisa'. If you're not speaking directly to her, you wouldn't mention her name and you'd just praise your good fortune. So you'd say Thank God, or Thank goodness.
@popkahchin6 жыл бұрын
Simple English Videos Oh i see. So i guess when i feel pleased and still wanna mention my friends name then I can use, " Oh thank god!! Alisa helped me during that accident" Like i wanna thank her in way that I feel pleased. would it be okay like that?

Yes, you could say 'Thank God Alisa helped me. You wouldn't be thanking Alisa personally, but you would be expressing relief.
