@@mas5867 that's not bs buddy, that's the truth. After Dooley retired the program didn't only stagnate but actually slipped to a degree. 2 losing seasons before Donnan arrived but he kept the program from slipping further. Mark Richt returned the program to being an SEC contender and recreated the national championship hopes that Kirby Smart came in expected to capitalize on. Before the results of 2002, 2005, & 2012 Georgia wasn't considered good enough to win a national championship. But those seasons led to why isn't Georgia winning a national championship. Kirby Smart did not have to come in and revive a program or turn a program around. He was brought to simply build upon what was already established. Kirby didn't improve the program in his 1st season because he won less games than Mark Richt in his last 2 seasons at Georgia. He took a step by making the national championship game in his second season before finally taking the last step in 2021. Kirby Smart wasn't brought in just to win 10 or 11 games a year and a SEC championship every 5 or 6 seasons because that standard had already been set. Or that was already the base point of the program before Kirby arrived. Or that was the starting point of Kirby's expectations. Or the program was already set up to achieve that. Or in other words the FOUNDATION of the program had already been set.

@@mousedream1550 Again, you can't control what other people do, you can only control your reaction to it. Generally speaking, when guys did something that he viewed as unacceptable, he kicked them off the team. Most of them wound up playing for Auburn or Alabama. Coach Richt is known for keeping in touch with his ex players, even the ones he kicked off the team. He tries to help them and always lets them know they can call him any time. I can't think of any players or coaches that have ever had anything negative to say about him. They pretty much all say they at better men for knowing him. We're talking about 18-22 year old dudes that have had their asses kissed and done anything they wanted their whole lives because they were good at football. A lot of them would be either dead or in prison if they weren't good at sports. Hell, a fair amount of them still end up that way. You're not gonna have a 100% success rate. All you can do is show them the path, you can't walk it for them.

Players lacked discipline and that falls on Richt’s shoulder. Look at the difference Kirby made. Kirby is not only successful on the field, but also off the field. For the first time since 1980 we won the natty and we don’t hear rape and drug news every two days.

@@mousedream1550 Lol, you seriously think it's a cleaner program under Kirby? Have you not been paying attention for the last half decade? Or this year? And comparing what those 2 coaches did at Georgia is apples and oranges. Richt did pretty good considering he generally had a roster full of 3 star guys. Georgia was getting out spent by Kentucky and Ole Miss. They didn't even have an indoor practice facility. They were top 5 in revenue every year but they spent all the money on other things. There was no commitment to win football games. They wouldn't pay their coordinators, they had hardly any assistants for position coaches. Georgia spent about 1/50th as much money as Alabama but Richt was expected to compete at the same level. The guy would have to put in a request to use the universities one jet like 3 weeks in advance for a recruiting trip and half the time he was denied. But people couldn't figure out how he "couldn't win the big one" or whatever. Georgia has more 5 stars sitting on the bench right now as Richt had in 15 years. The players on the field matter. When you don't give someone the resources to recruit on an even level with the big boys, you're not gonna be one of the big boys. You don't like Richt, I get it, but don't act like Kirby is some shining symbol of virtue or a great coach. He pissed away the best 3 rosters in the history of the program because he couldn't figure out that Jake Fromm was a bum. Luckily, this year, they were able to put a historically good defense on the field despite losing their best defensive player to, you guessed it, a rape charge.
