Can we see that LED driven thanks in daylight?

Greg Steckler No, he means in direct sunlight, not high energy LEDs with a black shade over them for visibility.
@ybra

Greg Steckler Traffic lights are strong LEDs under a shade pointing directly towards the driver. I would very much like to see how these LEDs are going to look in direct sunlight at a shallow angle at which they are going to be seen from inside the car. Especially when the glass have been scratched up and dirty after a few years use.

ybra George Beno Just drive down any road in even a minor city in a commercial district and look for LED lights and signs in the daylight. Recently I was driving in Portland Oregon headed for the coast. There were huge signs, lights, of all kinds shouting at me to buy something. LEDs everywhere. Go out and look. Google Times Square in the daytime.
@ybra
@ybra 10 жыл бұрын
Greg Steckler Yes there LEDs strong enough to be seen, but we are talking about seeing them at distance, at a shallow angle from inside a car, under a pain a glass. Not to mention the they can't use all that much power else you would defeat the purpose by using all the power to light up the road. And as they have already made a test road, why are there no pictures in direct sunlight at the angle you would see them from inside a car? All there pictures of LEDs are at nigh or in the shade taken from above.

It's obvious that thunderfoots negativity rubbed off on you. I love the guy, but keep in mind, he is almost always butthurt over something, so take everything he says with a grain of salt, cause he can salty AF, just like your comment was. Hope you have a good day.

***** Negativity? No sane human would lie and actually say that this idea is viable in any way. The concept alone is hopelessly flawed. Instead of placing solar panels UNDER a road, where you compromise their tracking abilities and pretty much demolish their returns by putting them under an opaque piece of glass, and then compromise the safety of the road surface too, and spend hundreds of trillions of dollars to make this all work, why not just put the solar panels on the sides of the roads? In regards to current roadways, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's why Brusaw, who has _undoubtedly_ realized by now that his idea will be both the _worst_ way to build solar panels and the _worst_ way to build a road system combined into one hilariously ineffective idea, is just trying to cash out on the Kickstarter campaign and run. You think $2 million is anywhere near the amount of money it takes to even build a large-scale production facility? Of course not. But it's enough to buy a nice house in Hawaii so Brusaw can retire early.

There are still many bumps on the road for this project, but it is also only just starting. It really is an interesting invention and I hope it will be realized to some extent. The match looked really good with other technological developments that have speed at the moment, especially driverless cars. Keep up the great job !!!

Hey just some questions. As you have a prototype I guess you have tested it, have you released info on how much energy it generates on average and how much energy it takes run the LEDs and the snow melting heating? And have you run tests on how the glass preforms after use. What happen if you simulate the rocks, dust and grit that is going to rub the glass year after year. Do they keep traction after they effectively have been sandblasted? How much sun gets through after that?
@greglhoticom

It will all be in the Fed. Hwy. Admin. report which is private until they say release it. They paid for the test bed and get first dibs. But I doubt SR would be calling for resumes and be invited to the Maker Faire at the White House today if the results were less than spectacular.

I'm not sure you guys know how much work goes into creating prototypes and making sure it works in every condition - they're probably busy actually working on the project than worrying about you figuring its a scam. This will work, you just have to give them time to refine the idea and the machinery - people thought airplanes were stupid and a scam too - Imagine how dumb they felt when people built airplanes? I imagine they felt pretty stupid, the world is constantly changing either change with it or go to a remote island where we don't have to deal with your ignorant ideals.

it is a scam, even if the people that made it aren't aware of it. why? because glass is a purely awful substance and solar panels that are flat produce very very very little energy compared to those at the proper angle.

Have seen that you have found investors to develop the Solar Roadways, maybe you should consider creating an account through PayPal or similar so small investors can support you too. It can be $ 25, $ 50, $ 75, $ 100, $ 250, $ 500 - small shareholders. They can lose the investment / money or make their life best investment. Because the project has endless possibilities if it can be realized.

How much did he donate?
@mhmanley
@mhmanley 10 жыл бұрын
Not sure if he donated, but he did spread a lot of awareness about the project. Their indiegogo campaign started April 21 and by May 19 had raised $229,000. Takei posted about it on May 23 (facebook.com/georgehtakei/posts/956120274417426) and by May 25 they had hit their goal of $1,000,000. Today, with 4 days left in their campaign, they are at $2.08 million. The viral video "Solar Freakin' Roadways" also did a lot for the campaign and had talked about how the LEDs can be animated to say, warn of obstacles such as deer, but seeing a real-life example helps go a long way to showing that this is a fully functional prototype and is ready for the next stage.

xLawton The viral video helped a lot and Takei did share that as well on May 25! The viral video was released May 18. While the video was great, I'd imagine that Takei played a major role in making it go viral (his post received 94,000 likes on Facebook) given the acceleration in contributions to Solar Roadways: May 17 - $200,000 (day before video) May 19 - $229,000 (day after video) May 22 - $300,000 (day before Takei posts) May 23 - $491,000 May 25 - $1,000,000 goal reached! (2 days after Takei posts) May 26 - $1,250,000 May 28 - $1,450,000 (5 days after Takei posts) The Washington Times echoes Takei's help: www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/may/29/takeis-tweet-boosts-solar-roadways-network-idea/

Why even have the solar panels in the road. Put the beside the road at an angle and they will preform several times better and the road will last way longer. Sure. You wont get your ego boost but at least that MIGHT work. And instead of using leds have a rotating cube or triangle with a light source in it. That way you can "paint" the road by turning it and it may be visible in daylight even because the actual color will change and you wont have to outperform the sun. What material to make the actual road of however is a big problem. Glass wont work and sapphire glass is way too expensive. Some kind of polymer might work but honestly lets be honest. This is going to cost several times the amount that a regular road would and there would be little to gain other than ego. Just use glow in the dark paint on the road lines instead.
@almightymurk
@almightymurk 9 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons they want it on the road is so they aren't taking up any new space just replacing isles old space. Put and angle to the side is more efficient. Maybe lane guard solar panels?

Solar panels can be placed on rooftops. Because then you don't have a car parked on it when the sun is out.

Reading everyone's reply on this vid. So people have to rage and say its a bad idea and won't work. Its so funny because this repeats in human history so much. Like the internet, cars, airplanes... when they were thought up many people said they would not work. But, guess what they were wrong. So, I will laugh at all the people that said this won't work. Because the day it because wild is the day I watch people say I told you so. :D
