Ich habe auf so ein Harmonium gelernt, mittlerweile bin ich Organist an einer großen Hauptorgel. Trotzdem höre ich solche Musik sehr gerne, Danke

Wow! Rodney. I think, I leaked some tears on that one! By far an excellent rendition of that lovely hymn. Thank you for posting it. I listened to it before and a few times since, That Berlin organ is still an awesome organ.

I just can't help myself from coming back to this video. It is so beautiful and sweet sounding. If you ever compile a cd, please ensure that this recording is included. 😊

I was moved to tears by this beautiful rendition of "Thanks Be to Thee". I've been searching for a piece to sing at a very old historic church with a pump organ. Largo with Christian lyrics ("O Mio Signor") is also wonderful and a contender for the solo. Thank you for your posting!

Beautifully rich and mellow sound, and sensitively played too! Bravo!

@MrMinathecat - Thanks! These organs might not have the same niche as 100 years ago, but I think the biggest problem today is that too many people that have them don’t take the time to learn how to use them as real musical instruments :-) I also think that it’s time will come back, for both hobby organists (like me) and serious musicians. You are right that the sound is very unique - and they will never be made like this again. Thanks again, - Rodney

In today's world more people want an electronic something or other, instead of an historic musical instrument, that was built by craftsmen who cared about their work. On antique organs, reed or pipe, they have what is called tracker action. All mechanical and the player must have a feel on how they work. It does take some getting used to, but, to me it's the best.

In my opinion no one can match Handel in vocal works. His pieces are nothing short of sublimity. Great job playing this on the organ.

I read somewhere recently (Wikepedia) that part of the reason the reed organ fell out of favor was that there wasn't a niche for it! Is this true? I believe that its sound is is unique in all the world....maybe it's time is coming back. By the way, it's great to see not only such high caliber playing, but also such high quality audio / visual production, far above the norm! It is greatly appreciated by at least some of us

The two main names for a reed organ were 'harmonium' and 'melodium.' From ragtime to jazz to swing to rock to rap, popular music has been dominiated by rhythm. Also, improved manufacturing methods made pianos affordable if not to everybody, to a lot more people than they were before---and, quite frankly, for all the beauties of a reed organ, a piano is much more flexible musically, as one can play almost any kind of music on it. The reed organ, not so much.

Rodney, Really loved your playing. Thanks for the video. Could you please let me know where can I find organ sheet music for "thanks be to thee" by Handel. Many love from India. -Wilson

Too bad about the reed in the bass. I couldn't hear the problem. In general I was impressed by how sweet this organ is. It must be the artist performing on it!

Your instrument sounds much nicer than the pipe organ :-)

Hello, I have a D W Karn parlor organ which was made in Ontario in Canada that I got for £100.00 and it works very well but is in need of some work in places. Do you know how to find out when a D W Karn organ is from?. I know it would probably be at least 90 years old because the company went bust in the 1920s, the company was started in 1867.
