Beautiful gun! And lock bar sights is a bonus. None of mine have those! I was able to do a long road trip from Utah spring of '24 and made all three stores. Was able to shoot at the range with a Garand and 1917 me and the wife bought at Anniston. And then drove to the Ohio store and bought another 1917 and a lot of ammo and slings and parts. I'm hoping to do it again next spring. Thanks for sharing!

The Coast Guard was the last branch of service to inventory and use the M1 Garand. To their eternal shame, the Coast Guard demilled thousands upon thousands of pristine Garands by welding. In 2000, CMP had a really sweet deal. If you signed up to shoot the Garand Match, you were offered a CMP prepped M1 to use. If you fired the match with that CMP rifle, you could buy it for $500. If you bought the rifle, you could buy unlimited amounts of Lake City ammo for 5 cents a round. I still have cases of that ammo.

Super rifle, it will be a lot cheaper and easier to get ammunition for than a 30.06 , it's nice to get all the way the bits in one place rather than have to get them from multiple places, a nice early christmas present to yourself

Very nice. I purchased a M1 Service grade May 45 around 8 years ago. This year I purchased an Expert grade Dec 44. I went to the National Matches for the day this year at Camp Perry and walked off with a 1903A3 Dec 43. I have my name in line for lottery to take Advanced Maintenance Course in 25. When I go down there probably will by a couple others, just won't tell wife 😀

When did they start marking gas toobs? New made?
@gwen6518Ай бұрын
Gas tubes. Auto correct.

I believe the CMP mentioned making gas tubes in one of their youtube videos. I wanna say it wasn’t that long ago.
@kman0146Ай бұрын
When CMP started using newly made tubes they mark them CMP on the bottom of the bayonet lug, not sure where they source them from. I think they started a couple years ago because they were running out of original ones.

The blocks in the 7.62 NATO Garands just prevent the loading of .30-06. They serve no additional purpose. Cheers!

It's great to see the rows of M1 rifles, the majority of rifles produced were cut up (some were salvaged and made "fire-worthy"). I would very much like President Trump to lift the ban on re-patriating the many M1's stored overseas before they deteriorate into crap, we could use the parts.
