I was abused by a narcissistic father. I always looked up to luke skywalker, holding out for his father to see the good in himself. Darth Vader has better self control than my father. That doesn't justify what my father did, it gives me an clear cut example of villain behavior. The story says "this is not ok, this is bad." I hate snowflakes.
@giulizpaviz6381Ай бұрын
I wasn't really abused, but I had a narcisist mother and it was a nightmare. When I watched Rapunzel with my aunt I had trouble liking the film because of Mother Gothel. Not because I thought that the movie was teaching me that it was ok to have a toxic parent, but because Mother Gothel (both phisically and mentally) was way too similar of my mother so it was triggering in me not a good sensation. But I don't consider it a bad thing. As I moved on I managed to accept that Mother Gothel was a realistic depiction of a narcisist mother and in a good way for an antagonist. Some people who have so much trouble with movies that have bad characters being bad really needs therapy

And even if it said it was good or said something ambiguous it wouldn't matter. Art job is to not to be the cultural stand in for a teacher of the masses - not that you are arguing this. I mean people like Colonial Marines Man -. That's a propagandist view point of art, a total utilitarian's who resents humanity in humanity. It is not the product responsibility to provide counter argument to potential or even STATED notions within its own work. It's simply an attempt to use faux morality to ensure social control. What it really gets down to is that these people fear - and hate - the fact other people have thoughts. Other people thoughts and judgement on things are dangerous to them. If they could, they'd use some sort of radio tower to over ride certain phrases and ideas out right, but lacking that instead they try to curate and morally shame expressions and art. Because art is one of the only means of conceptualization of such subjective, individual will.

The Batman claim at 1:10:50 is categorically untrue. While yes Arkham is notoriously shitty, they are attempting to rehabilitate the inmates. But most of the time they are ineffective due to many reasons such as misuse of funding (Bruce funds most public services like the police and hospitals), being understaffed and of the staff they do have are incompetent, corrupt, sadistic, or mentally unstable themselves. And/or that they use ineffective or improper therapy methods. Since he showed BTAS Harley I'm going to use her as an example as well. Harley who was only an intern fresh out of college (which she barley passed, if not for “see me after class” activities boosting her grade) when she worked at Arkham. She was only there for a few months by the time Joker manipulated her. Taking advantage of her and making her a sidekick by pretending to open up to her. She was desperate to be loved, and saw him as someone just trying to make others laugh and was victimized by Batman. Eventually Harley was even temporarily rehabilitated from Arkham and declared sane until she couldn't reintegrate into society and brought back by Batman. Batman tries many times throughout B:TAS and TNBA to help Harley but she always relapses and goes back to the Joker. Batman (for better or worse) does not think anyone is beyond saving, he brings those he can to Arkham to help them.
@hope-cat4894Ай бұрын
It's also why Batman refuses to kill his enemies. He wants them to go through a fair trial and face the consequences of their crime while still having the open option for them to reform. We've even seen some other villains reform before, like when the Riddler became a private detective for a while.
@Myrmidon0200Ай бұрын

@@williamdunhan341my guy if we started taking everything that someone somewhere "confirmed in an interview" as gospel not a single god damn movie would be internally consistent. People say dumb as fuck shit in interviews all the time, including shit that directly contradicts with what we see on screen. Don't forget that the director of Starship Troopers himself calls it a satire of the fashizms. We go by whats actually shown and/or can be confidently derived by what is shown, not by what someone says in an interview. We have post snap movies and shows and we see trees in them, consistent densities of trees. Trees take more than a few years to grow, so it is literally not chronologically possible for trees to have been included in the snap. If they were then they wouldn't have had time to regrow for the movies and shows we can clearly see have normal tree densities. During the blip we should see half the density of old trees with a significant number of young trees growing in their place. (The exact auantity would vary with how long ago the snap happened) and then after the blip we would see just as many old trees but with tons of slowly withering young ones stuck in the shadow of their canopy. It is literally not possible, from what we see in the movies/shows, for that to be true.

If that a valid method for lowering the population in his mind, does that mean that he kept halving the population of Gamorras planet until she was the only one left? Im surprised Maggie Mae Fish never got a proper EFAP induction, that quick cameo in Mikey’s vid was actually insane. Even in her hypothetical scenario, a child is still being abused. A child isnt going to be any better at standing up to an adult because a fucking purple bad man got his comeuppance, but the thing that's annoying is it's such a restrictive vision on art: that because the movie is bleak and is a comic book movie it's bad. It's the reason why I dont like capeshitters so much, the bleak storyline is why Infinity War was good. Life isn't nice, sometimes the bad guys win. It's not doing that to teach a lesson to 13 year olds, but it's a valuable perspective to have in art even "low" art like the Marvel films And this video (the one being covered, not this literal video im commenting on) annoys me along with other Thanos takes I've seen from people like OSP and Jenny Nicholson come to mind where they dont even get what makes Thanos work as a character. Redditors who memed that the character was in the right do a similar thing too, I hate to say they missed the point but they just dont get the character of Thanos and I think you can analyze if Thanos' plan would work separate from his motivation but these people who dont get the character combine the two The thing with Thanos is he's one of the few complex characters in capeshit movies, which when you're fed a diet of Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter and other YA fiction it's difficult to understand what the character is. Hence you get nitpicks like "why doesnt Thanos do this" or "Thanos loving his daughter is a plot hole". The point of Thanos as a character, from what I remember from the one time I saw Infinity War, is he wants his ideas and worldview validated. He has elements of altruism, but he doesnt want to pursue other methods of solving resource problems because the point of his crusade was to prove himself right. People dont seem to understand motivations that arent spelled out, like a Killmonger saying "I think the ways of isolationism is le bad" in a big speech, or ones that are spelled out but more nuanced than "he wants to solve overpopulation." It's the same thing with him crying at Gamora, whether you think Thanos could or does love Gamora is irrelevant to the fact he believes he loves Gamora. He could really think that, it could be him deluding himself or he could only love the character in comparison to how much he favors her over Nebula, but people like OSP seem to think that because they dont believe Thanos could love her that it's a plot hole and not that if we go with their analysis doesnt the fact he believes he loves her even tho he doesnt make him a more interesting and nuanced character?

out of all insufferable people they covered this guy managed to be one of the worst AND the most confusing. I might've hated him more, but I'm still not sure what hewas talking about

11:36 I have no context for who this guy is, but if he’s in college and is planning to submit this video for a film analysis class, he will get points off for not having that stuff.
