Kellen, from Killing for Company has returned! This time he attempts to unpack the complexity and obfuscation of Thantifaxath's 2nd full-length album, Hive Mind Narcosis, a twisted and obtuse descent into the avant-garde side of modern black metal. Join Kellen as he gazes deep into the void...

I like listening to Kellens review of the music more than the music itself sometimes ! This is a case in point. Great review.

Excellent examination of the philosophical and artistic intentions of this album. I feel this band is tapping into the primordial chaos at the heart of modern black metal better than most. Great evaluation of this challenging release.

Amazing review Kellen. Great job. This really gives the possible new listener all the flavours he/she/they might expect from the album, in a broad, well put and honest manner 🤘

Off kilter or off center BM that does not forget to write actual songs, at least that is what I got out of my first listen to the record.

Another band they remind me of is Ad Nauseam especially using microtonal guitars. Yeah one of the best albums of the year.

I've looked around, nothing on microtonal guitars for this band. Maybe chords/tuning that results in this sound?

@huwmorgan74 Other than literal micro-tunings within songs (outside of A440 Hz), no microtonal instruments to my knowledge. Honestly, you'd encounter more audible 'microtones' on a King Gizzard track than anything by Thantifaxath. Certainly more subtle than a Blut Aus Nord, to be sure... and I'd argue, something often out of the artist's control in many cases, especially once layering multiple instruments enter the picture anyway. Despite the use of tuners, it's something to ponder... or not.

That's exactly where I'm at right now..I've listened to nothing but BM for yrs and yrs..but somewhere down the line it got kinda stale to me..I still love BM bands like Watain.. Dissection..but im kinda looking for a new sound of a band that combines BM..DM..Doom ..And ofcourse Melody
