First 20sec impression, the Lintons sound more 'dull'. But listening longer they sound more realistic. The B&Ws take the music right and bright in your face as if you're just 1 meter away from the band. The Lintons are more like listening to the band in a real situation.

I used to be a owner of b&w 703s2 but became tired of this type of sound, i now own Warfedale Denton 85th (soon to upgrade to these Linton's!) To me this warmer sound is so much more enjoyable. No contest... Warfedale wins easily. I think when a speaker sounds this good it makes you realise that the likes of KEF and B&W are really over priced!

My friend is the first comment i read that i totally agree 👍. I have 40years speakers JVC and sounds BETTER than All the speakers until 1500-2000€. I threw a lot of money to try new speaker's with no results. So I return to JVC. Everyone's who hear them say W.T.F. what you have dane and they play so nicely. I have a friend who has a 55years.old wharfedale and all say : what you have done and they have this incredible sound, better than the real instruments!!! These Lintons is just a.sound of ordinary speaker of 70s-80s. I think,From them comes out MUSIC.

Tonally, the Wharfedales are my favourite. I've heard them in the flesh (so to speak) and they also have a lovely spacious sound. The B&Ws are quite harsh in the top end, but I believe that's a character trait of B&W, generally speaking.

As per manufacturer Lintons should be played with grills in place. They were designed that way. Could have made a difference in sound. Maybe.

It just afterthought because Steve G complaints, originally it wasn’t even mentioned in owners manual. Good speaker is going to sound good with or without grill like a beautiful girl with or without clothes on but Linton is okay speaker but KLH Model 5 is better choice, thanks

@@Tharbamar I don't care about Steve G. Watch Erin's review of the Linton 85th and his measurements. The mdf panel of the Wharfedale has a specific shape, related to the speakers. Wether the KLH5 is a 'better' choice, depends a lot on taste, preferences and priorities. The KLH5 is twice the price of the Linton's.. Anyhow, Wharfedahle advises the grill on. And some beautifull women (and men) look more beautifull with some strategic peaces of cloth on. Maybe there are certain details you don't want in your face all day long, every day again and again, because they could lead to fatigue, or a head-ache. ;)

It's impossible to get a good read on either speaker model. One side of the room has a fairly close wall. The other side, an undetermined amount of open space with a railing. Lack of a proper listening room. Lack of proper treatments, or not capable of treating the room properly; for many possible reasons? Room size? Recording method, squashed down youtube but rates. So I can't imagine either speaker model are capable of presenting their best foot forward. But these are the challenges most us face, in our homes/apartments. So people make decisions on gear, based on what will sound best in their limited environment, and on their finances. That's life. But happy people make the effort to make these videos and sound comparisons. Thank you!

Hold it there, the Lintons are designed to be heard with their grill on, and actually do sound nicer with them on, do a A&B test and you will be surprised.

The Linton sound natural and very easy to listen to music for long periods of time, they are enjoyable. I just picked them up and love the natural sound of them and the sound staging is also great, the highs are nice not harsh and the bass in very natural over all the Linton have a nice tru balance.

Also much cleaner separation of the instruments in the mix. Some passages on the B&Ws sound very jumbled. Vocals also much smoother and more forward through the Lintons. No comparison whatsoever from my perspective.

Great video comparison. Linton is more laid back, listenable, at the expense of bass clarity and attack. BW makes the bass sound like finger picked upright bass: very grippy but without presence. Linton transforms that bass attack into a “slightly wooly” at times “creamy” boom-boom-boom. Like speakers from the 70s would. Solo bass is tighter, but bass becomes wooly during complex passages. Very listenable speakers though. Dynaudio Emit sounds somewhere between the extremely revealing (and fatiguing) BW and the relaxed Linton. I am curious about how Evoke 20 or KLH model 5 would compare to the Lintons.

For me... B&Ws type of sound signture, (in comparison to the Wharfedales) is one of main reasons why there's a lot of complaints of listening fatigue regarding modern day speakers. Not saying modern day speakers are trash. Just those that are not of very high quality or near the cream of the crop. If I was in the market for budget/reasonably price speakers of acceptable quality, I would choose the Wharfedales over the B&Ws. At least with the Wharfedales, it won't dictate the type of music I listen to and i won't have to be too concerned about the quality of the recording. One has to have ears of steel to listen to the B&Ws and similar, in the long term.

imo Wharfedale Linton and Denton sound well balancend and not annoying, so they are better for long time listening in contrast to many other modern concept speakers in this prise range ... and they look like "real" loudspeakers and not like designer furniture ... I`ve the same impression with all the other retro concept speakers made in the UK and together with British amps they all are "a bingo" ... by the way, I don`t care whether speakers are "wife friendly" or not ;-)

An interesting contrast. Thought for sure I'd choose the Wharfedales. However, I think I have to give the win to the B&Ws. I know that particular Denon amp has a warm and creamy sound signature. This is probably helping out the usually overly bright B&W's sound at their best.

Interesting variety of opinions... for me the B&Ws seem to have a better 'grip' on the music, with the result that the rhythm section seems to 'propel' the track along with a greater sense of purpose. By comparison the LIntons seem slower rhythmically with the track seeming to kind of 'meander' along.

i think you would have to listen to a wide variety of music to see which one actually pleases you the most , which is more forgiving to recorded music that are non audiophile records. Which one would you most likely have to add a sub for a full range of sound?. Which one sounds better louder and which one lower? Which one can you listen to for an extended amount of time without wearing your ears out? Lots to consider. A/B comparisons are not always easiest way to tell. I say take a day and listen to all the music types you can on one speaker then the next day with the other, It will surprise you on what your ears will remember. As always it is subjective . Both are quality speakers and there is no right or wrong answer just the ones you prefer.

I'm listening on my faithful old dali ikon 2s. The B&W sound more controlled and accurate with a nice heavy weighted punch. The linton sound more loose with more mid range enthuses, definitely gets muddy in detailed areas. B&W is a modern sound and the linton is a 80s 3 way sound to me

Yes, there are many 2-ways that outperform 3-ways in the same price category. KEF LS50s (currently $999) blow the Lintons away in midrange and treble refinement.

707 S2: Overpowering Treble, Good Separation, Very Bright Wharfedale Denton: Neutral Sounding, Warmer, Better coherence, Better Bass (Need to buy with the stands, as smaller stands wont do) Add cost of matching stands as well to the mix. Is the 603S2 more neutral sounding as the Treble is not overpowering and there is better coherence. Is this just the 707 S2 or others in the 700 series have similar treble dominance.

The Lintons sound like the instruments are breathing life... timing seems to be on the B&W's side, but I think it's because of the tweeter being tipped up which will cause listener fatigue...hell they are already tiring my ears out with the sharp cymbals...

For some listeners of music, it's about a comfortable listen meaning tonally acceptable. For me it's combination of musical information, hearing the real intention & message that the artists are trying to convey to me. Tonal balance is less important, meaning, if in this case, the closely miked cymbals sound forward in the mix , as long as it's the artists intention, I can live with that. All too often the musical message is missed by the comfortable listener. The B&W 707s are not for them the Lintons are.

Everything sounds better on the Lintons with better balance and musical presence throughout. Yes, the treble is slightly rolled off on the Lintons, but that is a signature of the Wharfdale style. On the B&Ws the vocals sound like an afterthought.

For what you can hear, in my opinion Linton is definitely better. Listen carefully to the solos of electric guitar and piano. in B&W they disappear, they are inconsistent. The Wharfedales are certainly more musical.

On your integrated Denon 2k and utube recording b&w sounded cleaner on the top end but midrange Deaton takes it but I do believe the Deaton would sound better on a brighter amp where as the B&w sound best on a warm and maybe neutral sounding amp , On my channel I use 6 different amps to rate speakers and about to drop the in-depth review of the Onkyo Intergra M 504 Amp it's a warm detailed beast tubish sounding check it tomorrow night thanks again for the demo appreciate your dedication

that is not fair. Linton has 8" woofer plus 110 dB while that 707 only has 5" and 84 dB SPL. obviously, Linton has a better response and range with bass reflex and 2 more drivers. (I'm talking to the people who comment about Linton is the winner) at least, B&W 804 or maybe 703

I've listened to both, and I now own the Lintons, and they're hands down the best speakers I've EVER heard in this price range... Musical and, more than anything else, non fatiguing. You can listen to them all day long... Our host should try listening to the B&W for a couple of hours in a row, THEN tell us if he still prefers them ;-)

Bigger is better. B&W’s just sound small, probably cuz they are!

nothing worse than when SSSssss in vocals piercing my brain I have sibilants unfortunately there too many recordings with sibilance

linton sounds muffeled, maybe to much for my opinion.. the 707 sounds better on this one but they are to bright for me.. ill take the 705s2 :)
