Satvara as a human being is the most picturesque example of 2000's internet cryptid activities. This weird goblin man appears from the shadows with an UNMATCHED global record run, then disappears into the ether. iconic.

That was my take too when I watched the videos. No way this guy found out a lot of those stuff so early in the shelf life of GoW unless he was a QA, a tester or part of the dev team. Some of the stuff he showed clearly indicates prior knowledge and intrinsic knowledge of how the game was built and the engine of it.

Even if that's the case, he still found a good amount of glitches in other games, the guy has a knack for finding glitches. But if he was connected to the development team or part of it, then yeah, it's not as impressive that he "found" so many, on the other hand, he did find glitches in other games, and found more glitches in GoW itself after a few years.

Satvara may not have even been a villain and just someone with a social disorder like ASD. Nothing in this video implies a malintent. His paradoxical help towards the community and respect for GMG. His is only true lash-out was for not being believed and when you consider potential circumstances, it's entirely logical and reasonable. If you could not maintain a theory of mind and you knew that you had proof; it's likely all you could do to reason about how others think is project your knowledge and thoughts onto them. AKA assume everyone knows everything you do, why would he need to give proof, then be confused why people who have proof are doubting you. He didn't realize he had to prove it until he became offended by doubt that he didn't perceive necessary. A neurotypical may discount people and say things like it was only an experiment to humblebrag, but it seems to me that layer of manipulation is devoid in him. It was a legitimate fear he would be shamed for it. He just used proof and logic(from his closed-mind), all his reasoning is self-consistent/valid within small axiomatic systems. I think it likely, that through logic, he was attempting self-moderation when it came to considering the community at large and how there should have been a significant one. Someone with false confidence about their abilities wouldn't be trying to break it down in this way. They wouldn't simultaneously have offensive levels of confidence and the proof to back it up either. They also wouldn't immediately disengage from the affront when it was lifted. THey'd hold a grudge. I understand trolls often emulate aspects of this behaviour, aka social ignorance, but it doesn't mean everyone is doing it with manipulation in mind. Now it's entirely possible satvara was just a prideful skillful sunuvabitch. His behaviour just isn't consistent with that. It seems to me he's otherwise tolerant, only triggered when logic is offended, as it's his replacement for his emotional awareness. He may not be able to consider other's minds, but he said he held respect, he made guides, did things that were helpful. It seems that within some capacity, he cared for others. It doesn't seem there was entirely much attention seeking either, he just had fun playing and posting. Yeah pride was there, but it may have just been a social problem where he doesn't get it. "If I know 2+2=4, and you don't, why are you speaking to me about the next step.." From a purely logical and socially ignorant perspective, that could have been perceived as someone trying to lie or manipulate. Most of it sounds like he wasn't good enough for his perfectionism based in logical analysis, so when others wanted to speed up his times, he took it as if they were saying he wasn't perfect. Which, he previously knew logically, but it was emotionally filtered so that his perfectionism could handle it. Or when they tried to say good job without logical explanation, it's patronization. Maybe that patronization even stokes his own emotions in way he isn't emotionally fitted to manage. Maybe his emotions made no sense, and that's why he had to be logical. But also for the patronization, he saw that they hadn't been nearly as rigorous as him so he found the way to stabilize where his confidence lacks. Not saying he was right, but I don't think he's anything like a villain and I think it's honestly so wrong to characterize an individual we know so little about that way. I think he just didn't react on the same layers.

Yeah weird. I never noticed how unpopular speedrunning seems for PS. It exists, it just doesn't have a Portal or SM64 big popular game
@FraserSouris2 жыл бұрын
I do have a few theories as to why PS Speedrunning isn't as popular. The first is that Nintendo and PC games have been around for longer and were often the "de facto" games. For example, if you owned a NES at the time and wanted to try speed running, most of your options were Nintendo's own games. This meant the earliest speed runners played Nintendo and PC games which popularised speed running there. Meanwhile, because the PS platform came later, it has to "build its speed running scene from scratch" so to speak. The second is that many Nintendo and PC games often lend themselves more to speed running than PS games. Like, take Super Mario Bros for example. That game doesn't have an elaborate story or combat. Its main appeal is platforming I.e movement. So if a Mario Bros player wants to get more out the game, all they have to focus on is movement which normally amounts to playing the game faster which inspires speedrunning. In contrast, a game like God of War will take longer to inspire Speed runners because there's more stuff for a new player to focus on before they try going faster. Even if they replay it, Perhaps they'll first try mastering the combat or getting more out of the story. This is normally why the most popular speedrunning games tend to be stuff like Doom, Portal, Mario etc. Games which "trim the fat" and focus more on movement which is more likely to encourage speedrunning. Which is not to say God of War speedrunning isn't good. It is. Its just that it doesn't encourage it to casual players
@mitchsz2 жыл бұрын
@@FraserSouris That's a good point of view about it. Most PS game (specially nowadays) are focused on telling a story and speedrunning communities seems to like fast games more, which is obvious why.
@arof7605 Жыл бұрын
@@FraserSouris Depends on what you qualify as a "PS" game. Western PS games haven't gotten as much love but the JRPG scene, which is very PS heavy given the size of the game pool in PS1 and PS2 generations especially, is decently popular even though those runs can often be many many hours. Twitch streams of FF games from 7-10 especially always draw some audience, though many of those are lurkers. 7+ years ago I remember watching one of the WR holders (Caracarn) and sometimes it would be many minutes between chat messages.

I like a badass introduction like this, a dude coming in KNOWING his info, and CONFIDENT in it, was able to directly erase the existence of the importance of everyone else's runs. All while genuinely pointing out that it was truly impossible for them if they just kept using the current strats they knew at the time. Satvara was right, it was truly impossible for them before he or someone else like him came around. Him being condescending though? Aight man it's a video game, we dont need that much edge. What an interesting dude. Also GodModeGOD STILL never really dropping the minor beef he had with satvara, just kinda makes me think he was mad that a random showed up one day and put everyone's runs to shame and never got over it. I hope that isn't the case though, dude seems like a pretty sound guy.

I love this guy putting others in their place. Dude was genuine and didn't lie whenever he joined the forum. Others got upset and kept nitpicking at him, Satvara put them in their place. And GodModeGod is still being petty about it? GMG didn't grow up.

Its amusing to remember gow community through this video. GMG and shinobier were the first guys who I spoke in GoW when I was trying the clon wars in a no upgrade run. GMD was extremely helpful, his and satvara's contributions inspire me to get into gow franchise. Thank u ThaRixer, amazing editing skills, I didn't even notice this video were 40 mins. This was very nostalgic.

Wow Satvara was really ahead of his time, god of war probably had one of the best communities of any speedgame back in 2006/7 and even then his 1:21 was way ahead of anything anyone could have conceived.

Amazing video like always! Something confuses me though: How come that the current world record is "only" 13 minutes faster than Satvara's original run? It seems like the run should be well under 1 hour with how many skips and glitches he found afterwards? I know 13 minutes for a 1 hour game is a lot, but maybe his 1:21 was just THAT ground breaking?

@@WarDrums_ god of war speedruns are kinda known for having a lot of cutscene and loading times, wich counts at rta but not at igt as it was counted back in the days (curiosity: there's about 30 minutes of cutscenes and afk moments on gow 3 and the run is 50 minutes long)

GmG is also an asshole, but a more bearable sort of asshole in that he just wants to come off as a cool badass in the sense of being a strong intimidating guy (as seen by his profile pic) whereas Sathvara plays the character of this unbearable nihilistic pseudo-intellectual edgelord who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, as seen by _his_ profile pic. They’re both douches who think they’re cooler than they actually are, but Sathvara grates far more.

Kudos to your dedication and effort, ThaRixer. Despite the sometimes dry nature of the content, the video was very worth watching and entertaining. I really liked it. Also, kudos to all the guys mentioned in the video who put so much time into the game, whether it be through the speed runs or discussing and engaging with the game of GoW. Specially towards the end of the video, however, I now ask myself the question: dude, isn't this taken too seriously. I don't know how deep the communication between Satvara and GMG went and how Satvara acted towards others over the years in the forum and on KZbin. After all, it could be that he really acted salty or jerkish. I do not know the intensity, extent or duration of the contact between Satvara and GMG. Especially since Satvara seems to imply that the him and GMG outside contact (as far as I got it). But how can GMG still hold a grudge against Satvara after so many years? I don't understand this vehemence. Only cause of his initial forum postings? It is so incomprehensible to me that I am writing this comment. Let me make it clear: Everyone can feel and think what they want. I am not restricting anyone. But for me the whole thing seems quite strange, how the few forum posts are enough to create a feud between these guys. After all, it was more than ten years ago. I could argue that it's the dedication and the ambition that these hobbies (forums & speedrunning) bring and what characters they attract. And i respect that. But still, it just seems somehow strange to me - socially strange in the sense of far away from what i would expect people would interact. Maybe I'm also in the minority seeing things this way. ThaRixer, when you bring up Satvara saying how he feels about GMG, I had to pause the video briefly and smirk because I thought it was some kind of ironic question. I really thought the question was asked to round out the story and insert it into the existing narrative framework of the initial antagonism between Satvara and GMG - all with a wink. But then Satvara's answer surprised me. It was very polite, almost excessive for such informal exchanges about a (youth) hobby thing. [Side Note: I liked the exuberance of his answers, his chivalry and the seriousness seemed a bit pretentious to me, but charming, as I saw self-mockery behind it]. This is not meant to be a detriment to him, just an observation. In doubt: The more polite, the better. Especially on the Internet, there is rather too little than too much. But this chivalry I would expect in other topics, not in old, few forum messages. But in real disputes. GMG's reaction to ThaRixer's questions then go one step further. The fact that GMG then really holds a grudge after all these years and writes long replies is even stranger to me. I really would have expected something like now: Haha, lol, yes those were the days. We spent hours on this when we were young. Was exhausting,but awesome.Miss those times when life was about little but God Of War, gaming, chatting and hanging out". But boy, was I wrong. Since all participants (ThaRixer as journalistic chronicler of this epic, Sat as anti-hero/protagonist, GMG as antithesis/contractor) approach this issue with what seems to me a strangely inappropriate seriousness (each in his own way: ThaRixer by asking this question about their relationship at all, Satvara by his choice of words and formality, GMG by his overlong answers and the implicitly and explicitly expressed resentment) approach this matter around their relationship, I just wanted to leave this as my impression here and ask whether others perceive it here in the way I do. GMG in particular is somehow taking this too seriously for me. I would like to know how old the guys were at that time. (again: I don't want to insult or disrespect anyone here, especially not the effort and time that went into these speedruns and forums). Am I missing the irony, am I missing the seriousness, what am i mising - or does this also seems somehow strange to you as it does to me? (Note: I did edit my comment by deleting some double spaces between the sentences to make it better readable and correcting some words)

Good comment. The best reason I could think of to explain GMG's serious reaction/emotions towards Satvara is this: GMG, being very passionate about the game, created a space/community for others to convene/grow, and cherished that; only for some stranger to barge in claiming he's better than everyone BY A LONG SHOT, didn't use your, or any of your community's help (even almost to a level of belittling), and for a period did that with no evidence. I imagine it's a strong feeling of at least: embarrassment/shame/humiliation/condescendence/shattered ego, etc. Etc. Yes it's a video game, but it's a form of entertainment; and it's easy to look around the world and find countless people who dedicate their lives to entertainment. The fact that a 'grudge' (which really means, what? Giving a cold shoulder? Dry responses? Maybe passive aggressive in responses) is held this long is maybe surprising but it's an 'online grudge' over being competitive. No doubt in my mind these are 2 great, passionate and compassionate, people who just weren't on the same wavelength at some point. That said, GMG's contribution is undeniable. And Satvara is a living Legend.

GodModeGod's feelings for Satvara is actually towards himself because he has yet not come to terms with the fact that Satvara proved him wrong when they were being condescending towards Satvara. Satvara in classic protagonist fashion don't care because he did what he claimed and GodMode knows this and is still in denial about being belittled in the same fashion.
