This is Prism from back in 2005! That's cool to see something I worked so hard on in college featured in a KZbin video- I remember using a VCR to split the signal from my PS2 to my computer capture card + TV to capture my run (320x240 only). All the strategies I used were my own, which is why they sucked; I'm still proud to have been the first to speed run the game! Nice video, you do the subject matter justice-

The good ol' days... Shenminiu still stands as the best GoW-series speedrunner I've ever seen. With his precise handling of Kratos, I believe he'd get sub 1-hour on GoWII with current skips, glitches and tactics. Hah! The reenactment between GMG and satvara was hilarious, I never imagined GMG to sound like Grandpa Simpson.
@BigVEE

>Grandpa Simpson I remember preferring WKUK's Leg Peeing skit as inspiration, but felt an asshole old man text-to-speech robot would be even more appropriate (and easier). @@BigVEE Hey man! Long time no talk. I think Ascension was the last one I played and it was so bad I didn't even finish it. So maybe it's just one game I didn't play. Really lost interest in it at that point. First 2 games were my faves though. How about you? Still playing them all? Any other series you're into? I liked the souls games and bloodborne pretty well.
@BigVEE
@BigVEE 4 жыл бұрын
>GoW:A How regrettable. Took me 5 years to return from hiatus and finish my plate with it (but I did **lots of findings, did all my runs, got the bonus credit, etc.**). Was brought back while talking shit about some IGN nerd pretending he wasn't a casual while also trying to help someone (needed a refresher on that entry, so I had to play it to really understand my old notes). >didn't even finish it Impressive. Though not as impressive as Shin (saw the early appraisal I gave and just bowed out pre-release). Taz dipped during VH NUR+ (at the final boss). I forget the order for who all left, but we lost a good chunk to that trash. >still playing No. Well, I wouldn't have a reason to be (other than the last checkmark **VH Clone War in NUR or higher**) were it not for the efforts of Wulf. He found a cheat code (old fashioned stuff) left in the game (while going through the files as he does). The first use of it unlocks VH, all treasures and all costumes. The second use gives the trident and MAX gear (weapons/spells). No BotG or AB, but still pretty good (no option to just have them at lvl1 or getting all extensions). Odd they didn't think to put a secret website or something to work to reveal a code that actually means something like that (rather than 'pretend HD mode' as with GoWII). Owed to the prospect of being able to use things when you normally should not have them (without needing hacks), I was intrigued to sample this experience. I have some other testing planned for it. Beyond that, the only playing I'd be wanting to do comes with recording (I'd rather have a proper capture option for that, but might resort to my old rigged up approach once more). >other series I played a few titles throughout the years (some more than others). Didn't always get around to doing my runs for them. Dead Space (1 and 2), Infamous (1 and 2), SWFU (not so much 2), Vanquish, etc. Playing Tekken with a friend ate up a lot of time (as with dabbling in titles with that friend **for example, Nioh and to a far lesser extent Sekiro**). >Souls Did some runwork with them, yes. Mostly just DaS1 SL1 NUR+. Dabbled in Bow ONLY (Bowshit) and intended on NUR+ for each class (and maybe modified versions of the runs with only enough upgrades so as to use certain things that would better set the runs apart regarding tools they can use). Covered the full thing somewhere (probably a GoW board on GFAQs). That was final patch (didn't see a good reason to do the run on vanilla given the options available). DaS3 v1.00 had an SL1 NUR+, too. Covered that one in much the same way. Don't recall the DaS1 routing all that well. Think I did Pinwheel first (before I had my proper set-up) to spice him up a little and pushed to get to the last bonfire of TotG (to experience working my way back while learning TotG from that perspective **and collecting things**). Sadly, I forgot 4 Kings were available early, so I didn't do that (would needed to have learned from Vageta and a few others who show off the unlocked way to maneuver around the boss if I was to have any hope like that of dps to avoid being swarmed (the run ended up seeing me tossing bombs from afar with all the kings in pursuit while I try not to get into an invisible corner **my lack of skill comes up in a few spots forcing odd tactics as with 2H shield turtling Gwyn rather than parrying and using pillars just to bomb him, which was then altered by Wulf into his poop strats to make him toxic**). The only other stand-out (without thinking too hard) for me was learning to do Blighttown backwards (just another experience I wanted to have). Anyway, DaS3 had an obvious enough early route. Do what you can before Vordt. Sadly, I didn't know about the Frostbite antics with torches to help with the cooldown (pun intended), but I don't think I was able to wield those weapons (in that order) anyway. This in regards to a fight with Dragonslayer Armor after Dancer (who I could have cheesed later with deactivated AI, but just knowing it exists is plenty, I'd rather fight her in some fashion). There was no way in Hell I could get the stats via gear for Pestilent Mercury (itself after Vordt, anyway), so avoiding Phase 2 wasn't in the cards (had to learn to DEAL WITH IT). There were plenty of highs and lows (really wasn't pleased that you get sent away from Grand Archives until you do the rest of the game **no early Princes option**). Intended for a final patch version of the run (with DLC), but haven't come back to it. Think the route plan was DLC as early as possible, then the rest (even though that would leave me disadvantaged for that content). BB...I think my plan was to ignore the early patch in favor of final patch (with DLC). More recently, a way to sequence break like patched out skip was found, so I would be considering that to mix things up (as originally planned for v1.00 **do as much as I could out of order without screwing myself over**). Chalices would be required (though there is way too much filler with that content). Only ever did the one run of DeS. Run plans were sort of basic (just sort of guess at what might be a challenging order to do things in, while also getting interesting tools available to the usual lowest level NUR+ experience). Just didn't play that one enough to have solid grasp on things, frankly. DaS2 had many run plans, however. Just a pity the first one was a bit too ambitious (for one so reluctant to even lightly tinker as it would ask of me). The first of four runs was to be New Game v1.00 SL1 NUR+ (of course). The second was NG+ of that same run, but with no real restrictions (play as dirty as I like, get the NG+ stuff that wasn't acquired already, experience proper Sinner, etc. **nothing too notable**). The third would be final patch SotFS (with DLC) New Game SL1 NUR+. Routing would prioritize getting to each DLC as quickly as possible, then the rest of the game. Fourth run was another NG+ clean-up with no real route plans (do what is easy). The route plan of the first was more than I originally appreciated. You see, I wanted to do SoW and beyond before the rest of the game (as much as I would be allowed to). That is to say, I could do all the zones before SoW, but not kill any of the bosses. My first date would be Darklurker as a consequence of this. I wouldn't have much in the way of gear, NPC options would be limited and I didn't have a way to get Effigies for retries (the real killer as with infinite tries, I would have kept with the run **needing to back-up saves to practice enough before trying to do two of the three and despawn the last - whichever was considered easiest - prior to learning and beating the boss**). I should note, all of these runs were to be done with CoC (obviously). Think I was going to get Vanquisher Seal, but it wasn't happening before Darklurker owed to the restriction on routing. Getting the souls to bypass SoW was just a timesink, so I allowed myself to perform the skip after facing and killing each foe at least once (and despawning many as with the Giants in The Black Gulch). Enjoyed learning to fight some of these questionably designed foes and the zones that house them. Even the hippos (ass strats were a ball to properly learn). I wonder, did I let myself murder Purse User outside his arena? I think I might have, but maybe I didn't. I'd have to check the notes (if I even knew where they were). Even after beating Darklurker, bad times were still ahead with besting each boss as they come (not having the option to put them off). Not sure how well King Vendrick without Giant Souls would go (would end up all about punching with barefists for 1DMG until he died, I imagine **not enough DUR in the world for that without Santier's Spear, which I'm fairly sure I couldn't wield even if I had the option to go to that place**). Don't think it was a rule, but I tried to face all invader phantoms in these runs (no summoning of allies allowed **okay to be summoned by them as with Anri or the other girl**). Might have been a dps issue taking down Giant Lord while that pitiful, too. Would probably need to cheese Watcher/Defender (make one fall), but would try to learn it properly first. Was looking forward to repeating what I had in vanilla (melee ONLY v1.00 Shrine of Amana while clearing the place), too. Previous runs had plenty in the way of range crutches. Don't think I intended to put myself through invisible Aava again when I got to run 3. Facing Burnt Ivory King while so weak and without back-up is probably beyond my abilities (without the glitch **got patched** for insta-kill **which would undermine the desire to learn to fight him properly, anyway**).

That the Italian fellow? Not sure If I've seen the run. **checks** So it was. And Twitch (of course). May as well give it a view. **does so** Ah, no holds barred (NG+ Tycoonius Easy). Well, shy of using Wulf's cheat, hacks, etc. Bit of a rocky start. Lots of casual air swimming. MG version of teaming up with Artemis amuses me to see. The gruesome twosome getting their respect. Unfamiliar with this backtracking alternative during CoA. Right, EU. Censored Cage Push. Always good for a laugh. UBER Jump still gets used for that one bit. The restart in CoH will probably comfort the casual viewers. No need for the S4 halfway lever pull with that damage output, I suppose. CoM skip to the ropes wasn't one I remember viewing in the past, either. I know I've never seen the air swim set-up to reach Ares1. Neat.

Reminds me of how I left SBK waiting half a decade for the PAIN+ evaluation of GoW:A. Whoops. NOTE: I should probably just pull up the early release version's comments for reference if not copypasta, but whatever. For you? Timestamps of what I'm responding to. Let that be my apology. 0:32 >22nd is "22th" in the captions Don't plan on correcting the grammar and such, but this one amused me. 0:38 >forsaken by the gods Not just yet. Not entirely. Just their slave (and the champ of the saint). 0:51 Well, and he is an idiot who mistook the promised reward for relief from nightmares rather than pardoning for sins. 1:36 >the God Mode Dub name set aside, "the"? I forget what neck of the woods you're from. Not sure I ever bothered to look into it. 2:12 >segmented Not sure I see much of that these days. 2:50 >timer rules More your business (varied between entries, I believe). Death was only discouraged for challenge runners owed to the healing when not already topped off. 3:40 Which is the way that best suited a more combat oriented fellow like myself, though I can still appreciate the glitched OoO antics as its own thing. 3:48 Yes, for the attacks affected (spells, hazards, grabs, etc. not caring). Inverse for collisions (scaled with enemy power). As for the damage taken, same ideas. Not everything scaled (most projectiles are the same along with all grabs). Aggression is another factor (exploitable on lower settings for just giving you a free hand, but good on higher settings for taunt provocation and such). Orbs not so much for GoW1. 4:07 Yes, succ strats are slow chip and the reversal's 52 or so DMG is the good stuff (also want to know what your best dps tools are and when to land them given the hurtbox can avoid you at times depending on the moves). Shame there never ended up being a way to FORCE or at least strongly encourage that grab (just have to keep close and hope for RNGesus to bless you). Technically you can keep a harpy or so around for this, but I don't know how doable a set-up like that into air OS or OH collisions (50 a pop) would be for blowing through its HP. Seems like it would be tough to quickly get that desirable outcome and pull it off in a run. 4:43 Reaching above and below us, yes. A quality worth knowing. Shame about the limit to the number of things it can hit at once. 4:51 RNG for orb drops is a pity, yes. Not the right Twin Hydra to start with, either. Pity the semi-sweet spot isn't worked in these runs. Things learned down the line even before skips were to be employed. 5:25 Not a super heavy PR showing. This aside from negating the center bite into a lock. Early days, indeed. Well before HP regen's timed negging. 5:47 Was never my thing. Not good with that sort of thinking or even especially with dps. 6:15 Seems sensible for RotG (super state with lots of value if only just x2 Power for non-unique moves and uniques that are a bit better than that **few practice the state and lots could be said as with the 'Armor' upgrading with levels**) as an option along with the higher modifier for general use. Can't exactly just spam PR forever, eh? 6:20 Not quite the PR heavy method employed by Satvara. Even without it, CoO would teach me to go beyond the 's,t,s,t' opening punish of Stare into T to OH (cued up quick T for a lock all the way to "O"). Reliably quick, but I'm not sure how it compares with trying to just wail on her (with good RNG) or blast with PR (likely fastest as the grab isn't scaled quite like you would want it to be). Wonder what he was saving RotG for. NOTE: Did we ever go over Zim finding you could false OS (at least for objects) to build rage points on the meter? 6:42 A mechanic varying in usefulness based on their resistance, how aggressively they defend themselves (along with backing), break-out time, statue HP and the state of your spell (with MP to fund it). Not too mobile in this one (no i-frames, either). Friendly fire being flagged for statues was great. Good balancing overall though GoWII is best. Got really bad in GoS (somehow worse in GoW:A). Access was poor as of GoWIII (beginning the downward trend). CoO only let us get set-up. GoW:A had foes able to be be stopped mid-animation and pick up where they left off. Each entry has quirks, but enough of this. 6:57 Yes, a handy thing since we're arbitrarily denied the ability to leap away from walls oftentimes. Having no rapid drop (slide) or down-grab made some scenarios undesirable if sticking to the fight. No i-frames for these grabs, either. 7:15 Mostly irrelevant, but good for a quick spell cancel (especially on the ground for a free case **more so with Artemis for the Sword Summon i-frames**). 7:27 Always nice to see it given respect. While Flash is nice (especially that you can fire it during Stare), it is inefficient. Good for a quick affliction of the status if you know you've got just enough (the indicator only tells you what Stare would manage, not what other firing types can do with the current MP remaining while in range). A mobility option (even before sequence breaking) with the air fire though costly. Setting up Stare isn't too hard. Probably the strongest version of that firing type for this sort of spell. 7:33 Yes, an exploit method versus the bugged set-up I think you demonstrate with a harpy here. 7:55 With extensions given being full refills to plan around. My favorite example would be for the Centaur Sacrifice as there are no MP chests there and it helps to have a way to top back off to close the deal. 8:14 Getting all those Eyes definitely wastes time. The Feathers have more sense behind them. 8:43 I feel like killing this first one would be fasted with a bugged option (unexist her during the cinematic using x3 rapid petrification). Not so sure if that pans out well for the remainder. Probably best to get lvl3 BoC (versus going for MAX'd MG with priority) for t2, counters and a higher modifier (this is the entry where the usual 0.5 increase per level would go up to +1.0 at lvl4 and lvl5 **AB being lvl6 also does this for 5.0** capping at 4.0 instead of 3.0 as in the future titles). 8:47 A decent single target option for the MP cost. Cheap to get lvl2. Charged bolts...they definitely shine when you only have enough MP left to use a regular, but charge instead (overburn). Best fight for this is one where they keep dropping a bit of MP as with the Temple Siren brawl for the horn. 9:07 This is the point he would want to have Zf out for when he has just enough for a use (if wanting to capitalize when other options aren't better like with infinite air OS, collisions, etc.). Not knowing how to face them with melee certainly hurt. 9:34 Not much value in it for combat when upgrading the BoC beyond unintended RO. More a defensive thing for i-frames, but then you often have other means (rolls, PR, grabs, etc.). 9:42 Well before a full skip or just reaching the foreground pillars for platforming around the rope. 10:05 Yes, by the point of having MP to spend on MAX magic, lots of the finer details start getting lost in the fold. No point going on about gaps in the invisible walls for RO (unless that ended up being faster to work, which it might be). 10:13 The bounce aspect of Achilles' Flip definitely helps for Tormentors in casual runs given their protection from launches outside air or spawning states (for the BoC, anyway). 10:38 I'm surprised he worked Rising Helios (and that it actually counts as an air state enough to avoid the pop-up). Well before the multi-lever pulling and sweet spot stuff. RotG is pretty encouraged given half meter is granted for each QTE. Magic, too (lots of orbs). Working the top is easier, but would be slower with room for him to reach a breakpoint and back away over and over. 11:07 This one has a short casting animation (no i-frames) for homing projectiles that linger a bit. Cast-and-forget. Pairs well with PR. 11:49 Athena's Blessing, baby. LotF is cute, too (not sure when it would help in a speedrun even with the trick for instant full charge in the air **provided it doesn't bug and have the slow recovery**). 12:20 Well before it as found Hermes Stomp would cancel the recovery on such a thing. 12:29 Worst comes to worst, could work Ares1's QTE for orbs needed to do that for the Clone War. As noted, he goes down fast as much of what is spammed is the same across settings (made to blow through him when MAX'd). Spells doing work. 12:59 Shame it wasn't air casting. 13:08 If you trade HP for it (and they were beat up to allow said exchange). 13:20 RNG dictates the first move. Can prevent him from doing unblockables, but it probably isn't as fast as going hard for lock-ups. Hard to say. 14:30 Blessed, indeed. 14:39 Wrong order and side, but at least he wasn't getting pulled around. Given the PR reliance, this kept him near where he needed to platform, so hard to fault it. 15:30 Didn't want her ducking him, eh? 15:50 It is a little tight, but lvl1 MG suffices. 16:13 >shortcut Yes, in-bounds skipping. Perfectly sensical. 16:30 I forget how he did the Desert Sirens, but these Temple gals got the business. 16:50 >Eyes Bleh. NOTE: Was always odd they were tied to HP rather than MP. Feathers for HP would make more sense (given the Phoenix being tied to immortality, so life extension is a natural and logical tie-in). Later they would introduce a Cyclops Eye (which being a tanky thing with rage issues could be HP or RP, instead isn't even use for IP **just a secret costume**...while being collected without chests, which is something never done for the others).

A refuge (unknown at the time) unable to get approval for his tech (functionally worthless) in the right community for serious submission in this time. Comes in looking for strong reactions with want for proof while not starting with it (knowing it an outrageous claim **not so much when a different category altogether from the consideration the casual interest topic was made for and balanced around**). Gets mad when just accepted (even talks of leaving) and estimates are made before he gets to do his showcase reveal. Diva, attention whore, etc. Always pissed me off. My role as a mod was to deal with my fellow trolls (which he very clearly was guilty of being with deliberate provocation he himself admits to), but it was also my role to exercise sound judgement (making use of people that could be of value to TUGOWU and the wider GoW community). We were both young, to be sure. Still, I hated being stuck in the responsible role (thrust upon me for the sake of the union) and having to take any lip from anyone (let alone some outsider **even before learning it was a goofy goth**). NOTE: Even to date, never paid penance. Never apologized. What a cunt. At least he served a purpose benefiting my fellows. 20:56 >impossible Not looking so much the case these days. Let the record show that Daddy GMG was right (even when not giving a shit about nor being an actual speedrunner). Seems MistryMan had the right of it, too. Not so much Speedy (never cared to look up the meaning or origin of his name in the past) Gonzalez, here. Feels good to be vindicated. NOTE: Cute "dramatic re-enactment". Still wish I'd gotten the Useless Data 'Old Man' voice (if not ZeroLenny's), but we can't have it all. 21:29 >or kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKLKhIJulMiFn9E 21:35 >rushed because He's not actually good at fighting? It's a fine thing he wouldn't be needing combat skill going forward. Hell, had there been a lasting regenerating MP glitch (not just the temp stuff I came across in GoWII), maybe he would have run the others? 22:12 Definitely didn't have a knack for figuring out good combat approaches, but at least he could find ways to skip much of them (more so later). 22:42 >new tactic Playing to his strengths, yes. Timing isn't one of mine, I'm afraid. 23:00 Respectable. Athena approves. 23:10 Good show for the blue DEX lover. 23:30 I've mentioned it before, but though I'm an early case of someone reporting and use this relatively easily figured out exploit, it is NOT a bug. It is indeed intended by the combat devs (and reviled by the level devs). This was something I got to ask Derek Daniels about (who also confirmed Homerun/Punt were not intended). First at Sirlin, but again much later (just prior to Nu-GoW via email). 23:42 Higher Jump, yes. Amusing that GoWII would see myself finding HJ again with others making better versions and applications. Odd that I should be the one to do as he did for GoW1 with MP regen at first (before you and others continued the hunt with CR and EH though AQ was ultimately a bust). Glitching was a fun enough secondary focus to my primary concern (specialty run work). Still find rushing myself unpleasant. 24:00 Yes, for lack of the lock I'd make later. No need with the MP chest (clutch refill). 24:14 His specialty (OoB). 25:00 A nice in-bounds showing. 25:39 Yes, the 'long jump' concept. 26:15 Though slower than doing the same method as BoS (but well). 27:15 A rarely shown approach. Should be the same on VH. Well, in terms of how much arrows hurt. 27:30 Forgot about this one. 28:03 >grounded casts Pooling knowledge would correct this. 28:50 These things happen when doing things on your own. As it was for myself in GoW:A when refusing to see the notes of others, getting stubborn with Furies 2 and doing S4 the hard way (Tissy first). This broke Taz. SBK simply saw that Ally focus was faster. I would later test for HP to find why it was so. Hell of a thing. Still, worth going without influence and doing odd stuff before taking inspiration from others (going from there). 29:40 Yes, Vortex was good enough to share the wealth. 30:25 Stronger than his lvl2 BoC. Didn't use it well, but he did use it. No tricking, either. 31:22 >gone in a flash I truly loathe such things. 31:47 Yes, unlisted, without comments and without dislikes. How like him. This while the history was preserved by my doing. 32:28 >turned Kev on to the path Often my role in things if not guiding along it. 32:40 A nice refinement (avoiding tricky collision negotiation). 32:50 Artemis Lifts, yes. Even without use as an sort-of IJ, it was helpful for bypassing the rope to Hades Shield for those not doing a proper long jump. 32:55 Light advocation on my part. Pushing my ideals (as I could enforce in TUGOWU). Just happened to align with the lad's work. 34:00 Lobbying paid off. I wonder if any other titles played a role in that decision (for a new category). 34:15 >Shen Only really remember him from GoWII. 34:28 >sub-1:10 Beats the Hell out of 1:21: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIa0Yoxuo7WtZrM 35:35 Just a little push. 36:30 Wasn't this one yours? 37:13 Thought this was, too. Hard to recall who did what. 36:40 Still not leaping right to the rafter beams, I see. 38:08 This before more collision antics with Stomp. 38:24 Speaking of such things. 38:35 Think you did the testing for this. 40:12 Right, right. Forgot about this case. Nobody in particular seems to get credit for the rapid movement swimming. Doesn't even come up (perhaps for water not being all that prevalent **until air swimming**). 43:05 >in the credits Always good to see someone appreciating aid rendered. 43:15 >restarts TUGOWU definitely didn't concern itself with them. 43:30 Such an odd name. A fellow camera CHAD like myself and Zim. 43:43 >sub-1 hour Just keeps getting better and better. 43:55 Always has to be these types. This for when the uploader isn't taken out by YT (or removes themselves in annoying fashion). 45:37 Fairly sure this is the one where (the finder) when asked to clarify what was being done it was said to just look at the video (which was a black screen). Irksome. 46:00 There it is. 47:15 Precision was difficult for me, as well. 47:47 I forget if I've seen a TAS using all the findings over the years. 48:48 >momentum Sounds like your bag. 49:47 >Homerun The name for the techniques as a group, but one in particular is also just called that. This one, however, is "Punt". 50:50 >double launch Homerun is landing an Artemis (specific) launch during a launched state. Punt is landing one during a bounced state. Satyrs don't do their air escape on the next hit if bounced (versus the alternative case). That is why this works on them at all. Just have to take care they don't land on a platform. Shinobier was the first to show my finding for challenge run and general purposes (while Tyrhhjy was first to do it in a speedrun as you denote). The double launch (super launch) was intended, but the momentum away from us was not. Some sort of coding issue with a value (according to Derek). It doesn't happen when BoC does it, for instance. AoH into Artemis will still net this as what creates the bounced state doesn't matter (just what does the launching). 52:20 Oh? Right, I'd forgotten the meme runs. 53:05 >Jason That clown...The article mentions his current position, but not his origin (sound guy). Even more of a joke for how permissive it was. >damage difference That the only stat you're fussed with at the moment? Things differ between each entry (just that GoWII set the standards for what to expect here for the most part). Harder to pin down in CoO as I think it was somewhat unique. Would be easier with Wulf's tools. >x5 between N and VH That is correct. Enemy Power % is at 500%. The 5.0 accounts for why the 10DMG full collisions become 50DMG. Obviously this still leaves some sources as odd men out for not scaling (grabs, reverses, most projectiles, etc.). Remember GoS? Normally the enemy grabs would be strong relative to N's output for scaling moves. They probably screwed up. Doubt they intended to make a Tyrant grab insta-kill us from full HP (already a case you can struggle out of, but you die from the first tic).
