At 4:36, you see Bob looking around to see if anyone heard it. Then at 4:50 you see everyone's "wth is that" look and Bob's "oh crap, don't move, don't move" look lmao 😂 🤣

Red just wants Eric to talk to him plainly, because Red doesn't have the emotional toolset or interest in exploring his emotions. Life has made him harder than stone, he was in Korea, was shot several times, saw friends die, lost his good job, had a heart attack, so much had happened to him by this point. If Eric would have some balls and talk to Red plainly, they'd get along better. And if Red would listen to his son instead of yelling, they'd bond better.

Well like you said, Red doesn’t have the emotional toolset. Even in the 70s, men are still presented to be as macho. But my issue with the Red Forman character is how he can be extremely toxic at times. Like here how can one talk if he’s going to continuously gaslight you about being a lousy shot! Or try to have a conversation without him calling you a “dumbass” at the end of it when you’re trying not to sound stupid!

Who else out there, can relate to how Eric thinks of his dad? You have to admit, that he’s got a point, on why Red yells at him, quite a lot. Like, he wants what he thinks is best for his son, as he doesn’t want, for Eric to get pushed around a lot, like being told what to do, and learning on how, to make mistakes, as well as learning from making mistakes, and being called on it, like quite a lot, and Eric thinks that, if Red is being a hard ass to his son, he’s actually being like that, so Eric won’t get fucked with, if he’s gonna be that way. Now, I honestly don’t know about this, for a relationship between, a mother and her son, or even, between a father and his daughter, or between, a mother and her daughter. But if this is how it is between a hard ass father and his son, then you can easily relate, to how Eric thinks of his dad.

But the thing with Red Forman in my opinion is despite us fans loving him for being tough, realistic and relatable it gets to certain points where he can be extremely toxic. I’ve been told about certain roles and how families were in the 70s but would you honestly handle Red if you were in the same room as him? Like here Eric misses the shot (on purpose that is), Red thinks he’s a lousy shot and proceeds and continuously gaslight him about it! The episode were he installs cable and mentions the reason was to entertain himself since there’s always kids in his house. Eric’s response was that he only stayed because of his heart attack to help and Reds counter response was blaming Eric for his heart attack which remember was because of Fez and Laurie getting married. Eric was already set to leave with Donna and Red was all happy putting the last box on top of the vista cruiser! Even the cops felt sorry for Eric having Red as his dad in that season 1 episode where they got arrested for possession of a stolen car. We all know he’s not one to release certain emotions (other than anger)! And yes I can admit he’s surrounded by idiots! But even if you want to have a civil talk with him it’s impossible without him giving some snide remark or being called a “dumbass” even if you weren’t doing anything stupid.

You've been told how things were back then, I lived it. My Dad didn't have to threaten to put his foot in my ass every time, he'd just do it. He did it for a living as a cop, and he took his work home with him, all the anger and took it out on us. That said, I'll defend Red Forman, and to a lesser extent, my dad, for doing the best to raise kids (and while my sister was younger, she was a lot like Laurie for a couple of years) with what he had for life experiences. I took my Dad's example and gleaned the good from it, and vowed not to physically abuse my wife and kids. I had a better role model in my father in law, and was more like him raising my sons. It's easy to armchair quarterback this and say Red is a knuckle dragging Neanderthal when you haven't lived in that era. Red is actually fairly typical for the times, and not as bad as painted out to be. Just so we're clear, my own dad has his good points, too. After living with him, being in the Army was a breeze. 😅
