Surprisingly black bears are very polite usually. They just get a bit rude when they get too used to living near people or get really scared . WE have one that lives on our road and we call him Jim. He usually just climbs trees and hides, but in the mornings we just make noise and he walks off. He is an introvert so he doesn’t want to be around too much.

I would rather have bears instead of the mountain lions that visit my ranch sometimes. Those are terrifying! I got a loud megaphone with built-in siren and it works well for scaring predators away from my goat pen at night. I have a neighbor about a mile away who is a retired sheriff and a real jerk. He's killed a mother puma and her two cubs by tracking them to their den. This A-hole doesn't understand that we are living in the mountain lion's home and they are rare, magnificent animals who deserve our respect.

I would feed raccoons when I was a teenager. They loved Triscuits and their little hands were so gentle taking them. Then came the infamous night of the raccoons. There was this leader, who was very aggressive, and basically trapped us in the house one summer evening. After that, my parents would no longer permit me to feed the raccoons. I didn’t have an issue considering how scary and aggressive they became. That one leader spoiled it for the rest. 🤣
@erikarussell1142

Yes, they can be very smart and quite intimidating. I’m guessing the leader found out all the other ones were getting free food and wanted to take it all for himself and banned the rest with him. Poor thing, I bet you were a little traumatized! I used to have a rehabilitation license, not all of them are that aggressive. Most are pretty docile if not pure mischief. Lol they were one of my favorites to rehabilitate, that and opossums, actually. There really really sweet, surprisingly. Just don’t scare them enough to play dead. They let a scent gland loose that smells like rotten decayed meat, and it will absolutely clear a room.

When my son was five, I took him on a 2 week camping trip (what was I thinking!). One campground had lots of racoons and there were signs telling campers to keep all foodstuff locked in vehicles or metal boxes. I did that, but to no avail. I heard our tent rip, and saw the little bandits come right on in. There wasn't any food, but I had my boombox and a stack of CDs, and it was the CDs they took! I guess they like shiny things. My son was cracking up because I was chasing trash pandas in the dark with a flashlight, yelling at them to "DROP it!" One coon went up a tree and started munching the case while staring at me, defiantly. I could tell it was my new Peter Gabriel album and I was furious! It dropped it eventually but not before it was destroyed. Little furry bastard! Ironically, it was Gabriel's album that has the song, "Shaking The Tree".

Raccoons adore marshmallows. My dad fed them through the window and they climbed right up and often in. The babies he fed grew up had babies and brought them to eat marshmallows and catfood. So he fed generations of raccoons. I noticed he had nailed little boards up some of the close trees (we live in the woods). He had made ladders for the babies to go up if the older ones started fighting. He was an amazing man.

The guy thought the assignment to watch the kid was plunking him on the sofa in front of the TV, while he scrolled through his phone for something better, more fun than his child. He's been watching and seeing how his dad likes that phone more than him. No phone, no problem. Bye phone. He didn't tantrum, he never lost his self-control the way toddlers do because they can't express in words they're so angry! when told no. This kid used mature deductive reasoning, and great eye-leg-aim coordination for his age to precisely execute a problem elimination plan. The boy is a stone cold killer. All of the woods by my house were just knocked down and we have a lot of black bears and beautiful deer and turkeys and sandhill cranes even otters around here and it makes me so sad they don’t have a home anymore. Right after they were knocked down I saw huge deer a buck and a doe walk right past me through to the back of my house to try and go find a new home in the woods in my backyard only for three days later I see tractors and trees being knocked down behind my house too 😢 this isn’t fair to them

Hahaha pets are so weird when it comes to the human bathroom! It's like they know you're vulnerable so they can do whatever they want! I had a Bichon Maltese mix named Teddy (rip, old little bear). He could not let people use the bathroom unattended. If you shut him out he'd try to stick his paws under the door. If you let him in he'd make you pet him while you do ur business or he'd "keep lookout" for you. Same with showering. He'd watch out for you in the shower. When I lived in an apartment during college he'd pull back the shower curtain and stick his head in every few minutes. Idk why, I guess to make sure I wasn't drowning? Lol

I used to have trash pandas, I had a wildlife rehabilitation license and had a litter of kits I raised, and ended up with a lost baby that ended up literally knocking at my door during a storm. Honestly, there’s super mischievous and get into everything, but he was so calm and docile, we really just hung out ate popcorn and stuff and watched movies most the time. His name was Bud. The man telling the bear, "Get out, it's time to go" is exactly what I wanted to tell customers who where still in the checkout line after close. We didn't have the doors with the one-way lock and corporate said we had to check everyone out because not to would be rude. Of course we were still expected to get all of our closing procedures done without going overtime. We weren't allowed to override the automatic security -- we had to be locked up.

I am not a vet, but I have ADHD and I'm absolutely fixated with cats. When they frequently randomly attack you, it's often because they have behavioural problems and should be taken to the vet for a check (they could also be underlining of other health problems). Also, they could be understimulted! Play with them, teach them tricks just like with dogs, put food around the house so they have to look for it! Cattos can be trained and this behaviour can be corrected

One of the girls went on a cruise, the day she was due back, we rearranged her desk and drawers, moving everything as a mirror image and hid her mouse and keyboard. On occasions, we have covered someone's desk with hundreds of posted notes. We had a small cutout of a really cheesy singer from the 80s and used to hide him on each other's desks, in notepads, drawers. We are like a family to each other 😊

A tip for icy car windows, particularly windscreens: put cling wrap over it when the car is still warm, like right after you get back from being out and the ice will form over it. Then in the morning you just lift it up off the glass by a corner of the plastic! Source: I lived at the base of the Blue Mountains in Australia for many years, where temperatures reached -5c in the night and ice/sleet on the windscreen was a daily occurrence in winter!

The day before yesterday my brother in law had a vasectomy and so yesterday he was resting and I was there to help him out with the kids while my sister slept (she works the overnight shift and they have 4 kids. 3 littles ages 6 months, 2 years, and 4 years. Their oldest is almost 14) and my nephew got pissed off that his dad didn't change it to Mickey and was letting his 4 year old sister watch Bluey instead so he headbutted his dad in his unmentionables lol. Good doggy! 15 years ago, we had an unwelcome visitor here at the ranch. There used to be a minimum security prison up here on the mountain, about 3-4 miles away. An escapee saw that my horse was saddled and bridled as I was about to go for a ride, so I guess he thought he was going to steal a ride down the mountain. My Queensland Heeler (cattle dog) had other plans, chewed his leg up pretty good! I was surprised because Ringo was such a sweetheart and I didn't think of him as a guard dog. The sheriff was already out with bloodhounds looking for the guy. Later they told me that my dog helped their dogs by making sure there was a blood trail to track! I told my sister recently that living here is like being in an old Western movie; we've had "bad hombres", mountain lions, rattlesnakes, wildfires... about the only thing I haven't seen yet is quicksand!

@@Sorchia56 Seriously! That's idiotic. It looks like that good dog didn't hurt the "intruder" but sure wasn't going to let it near his person. I live far out in the country where my closest neighbor is about a mile away. I keep my rifle close. I rarely need to use it, but on at least two occasions I'm sure glad I had it. I don't keep it loaded, but the magazine is in close proximity, and I also have a bright spotlight and loud megaphone that are part of my gear. I've never needed to shoot a predator because the sudden bright light and loud noise, so far, has been enough to scare the beejeebers out of anything bothering my goats and chickens.

Totally agree. I used to fantasize about having a remote, alpine hideaway (my "cunting lodge"), but in 2023, that seems dubious at best. I feel like I would attract fugitives, wendigos, and every pest/predator within 20 miles. Maybe a bougie bunker could work... Also, don't believe the office funtime hype. For every fun incident, there are like 20 awful ones. The best office jobs are quiet and boring, mostly.
@LazyIRanch
@LazyIRanch Жыл бұрын
I've lived on my 20 acre remote mountain property for 16 years now, and most of the time it's pretty great. It's solar/wind/battery powered, so no electric bills. It was too rustic for my ex-husband who left 8 years ago, so it's just me, my 30 yr. old son who has schizophrenia, our dog, nine goats, chickens, and 3 cats. People are kind of afraid of my son, so they leave us alone, mostly. I'm fine with that! We did have an escaped convict once that our dog attacked and chased away, and a few would-be thieves who didn't find anything worth stealing. My goats have been attacked and killed by mountain lions before I built them a better pen. A dog I used to have caught a rattlesnake and shook it to death but she didn't get bitten (whew). We got trapped here in 2013 during a wildfire that destroyed houses nearby, but my goats do a good job of removing brush so we survived with no major damage. Haven't met the Wendigo yet, but Cahuilla Indian legend says we have a "mountain demon" up here named Tahquitz. I've met residents of the reservation down in the valley below who believe in Tahquitz and they won't come up here because of stories they've heard. There's a strange phenomenon sometimes where it sounds like the mountain is groaning. It could be seismic activity, or the wind blowing through the canyons. It sounds spooky as hell and makes dogs howl!

Cats are like dogs; they can tell the kind of person you are by smell and physical tests. When I used to work a pizza delivery driver, I actually had a couple of people set their dogs and cats on me just to find out if I “was a good person”, or “could be trusted”, by setting their dog and cat on me. The dog lightly bit my ankle and because I barely reacted, and the dog seemed chill about me after it, I passed the test. The cat one would just continue buckling into me and then accepted pets from me willingly.

The raccoons were adorable. Several years back I was working as a nurse in an upscale assisted living facility, it literally had a small park in the center common area with a pool, a Koi pond, trees and grass and critters. Mainly ducks, squirrels , rabbits and raccoons. I worked swing shift and would usually get off work around 11pm. I would clock out and grab my bag of goodies and go outside, sit next to the pond and feed the raccoons. They would take the snacks right out of my hand. They loved fruit, marshmallows, and especially liked peanut butter crackers. I even had a skunk or two stop by for a treat occasionally. It was a nice way to unwind after my shift and the critters seemed to like it.

We’re so used to black bears popping in for snacks and such they usually are quite polite. Aside from when cubs are near by which any mama would be on alert. They come by our farm looking for feed barrels for our livestock or the dog food barrels(same with coons) but I get in trouble for feeding skunks and coons and possums or other critters because we learned if we have a feed pile away from the house and chickens they don’t get bothered. But big reminder they are wild animals so don’t try to give them pets.. they don’t like that, speaking from experience 😂

I believe in asserting dominance and boundaries early on so they won't mess with you too much. Also, just like people, cats have different personalities, some can be d1x or others extremely loving and loyal. I had cats who greeted us at the door just like our dogs and were very playful and came to seat on our laps to purr anytime we were home.

Oh Charlotte, why do you have so many clips I can relate to today!?!? I have a ton of “that happened to me” stories when watching this. Story #3: I was working overnight braiding horses in a mountain town’s fairgrounds. I went to my car to get something I needed, turned the corner and there was a bear standing 5’ in front of me. It was digging in the trash. She looked at me, raised her paw, turned her head then walked away. Talk about swallowing your heart. I was very lucky I didn’t startle it too much. There’s that but years earlier in Aspen, I had a black bear run right past me while holding my 4 year old’s hand. Basically brushed up against us. He was running away from on lookers wanting to get close. People are stupid. We encroach upon wildlife homes and then ask them to adjust to our environment. Sad really.

Some people cook scrambled eggs in ramen, I just want the whites because they absorb the broth and taste sooooooooo good.
